My grandfather was calvin ross poulson. His first wife was Balzara Neptune and they had 2 children. Unfortunately Balzara died and his 2 girls were left with her parents until my grandfather could take them back. He met my grandmother laura mable allen after he became a preacher. When they married they brought the 2 girls to live with them. they had 2 more children a girl and a boy. There are a lot of family trees on ancestry.com as well as rootweb that show his first wifes family line. Please let me know if you found this helpful. My mother Helen Edwards Johnson was a great friend of Elsie. She visited her a lot in the Lutheran Home at the end. She had a lot of pictures of them at St. Pauls in Peoria, if your're interested. I also knew Elsies sister, Helen I think at a church we went to in Peoria in the 90's.

I beleive you are correct that Enno Eilert is the youngest of the three brothrs who came to the US (I think all at the same time, but have not the Ellis records to back that thought up. Dudley is in the lists I have. I am in contact with a son of Eilert who was a son of Enno. I am Grandson of Martha Neptun Edwards Dau. of Peter (second Oldest). Henry was the oldest. All in Peori, buried in the Lutheran Cemetery. I have pictures of all and trees if you send me email I'll copy them to you.
We have a researcher who has a Neptun contact in Pewsum, Oestfriesland, Germany where he says the three came from!

One of Enno's great grandsons is an Admiral in the U.S. Goast Gaurd! Great guy! Peter had a son name Enno also(which I think is Andrew to us!) It's a greta story!

It isn't often I see NEPTUN in a message board! Are the three brothers named Enno-Eilert (arrived in 1884), Peter (arrived in 1883) and Hinderk (arrived in 1882)? I believe the uncle Enno you write of is Enno-Eilert NEPTUN, my great-grandfather. His daughter, Mary Henrietta (NEPTUN) DUDLEY is my grandmother.

Please verify if I'm correct! I've been trying to find out about Enno-Eilert's parents. Do you have any info on them?

Hi Robert,

I checked our records and the James Duff we have here did not have any children with Susan Neptune. They were married Jan. 6, 1879 in Old Town, Maine. He was listed as age 34 and she was listed as age 38. The 1880 Census for Indian Island listed his dob as 1845 in Canada. His parents are listed as: Alexander Duff and Mary on their marriage record. Susan Neptune Duff died Feb. 15, 1897 ten months before the birth of your father.

I will check when I get to work on Monday. This particular Neptune line has been difficult to trace. It appears as if they all moved away once they got married and never had anything else to do with the Tribe. We did get one of the family line to report back in just recently. Alot of this had to do with the Carlisle Indian School. You should check their records to see if your relative went there. I'll let you know on Monday what I have for information.

Thanks again for the reply, but I have hit another brick wall at trying to connect my Duff Family to the Duff-Neptune Family. This is especially true without knowing of any children of James A.Duff/Susan Neptune. I will check Maine Archives at a later time.

My father was also James A.(Arthur) Duff. The family history has him born on Dec. 4, 1897 on Indian Island, Old Town, ME. His father was also named James A. Duff (birth/death unknown) and his mother was Mary A. King Duff (birth. 1865/death unknown). His father was supposedly lost at sea between 1897-1900. Mary A. Duff and my father James shows up on the 1900 US Census living in Boston, MA. I have been to the Maine Archives in Augusta and there is no record for my father's birth. I have sent letters to the local churches with no positive results.

So I was stuck as where to go for further research on my father's family. My thought was how many James A. Duffs can there be in this area of Maine? This is why I was researching the Duff/Neptune Family for a possible forward connection to my Duff Family.

I assume from your email/address that you have access to Penobscot Nation records. Can you check your records to see if my father's birth was recorded?

I have no listings of any children for Susan Neptune and James A. Duff. I'm not sure if they had moved from the reservation and the information was never reported. It seems that Susan had several siblings that died young and with no children. She was the only daughter and had 5 brothers. You would need to get copies of birth certificates for any of her children. I would love to see the information to update the database. Where were they living?

I have a Susan Neptune b. 1841 married (Jan 6, 1879) to James A. Duff b. 1845 in Canada. James is listed as a Non-Indian. His father is Alexander Duff and his mother is just listed as Mary. I have no other information on Susan Neptune Duff except that she died February 15, 1897. She did have five brothers though. Susan's parents are listed as Saul Neptune and Margaret Dana although Old Town death records list her mother as Mary Sepsis. Hope this helps. Let me know if you need anymore info. My grandmother was Martha Neptun Edwards. I knew Enno and his wife Elsie and their children that are contempories of me.
I have worked recently on the Neptun line of three brothers who came to USA cicr1880's. I have recently met most of the surviving neptuns in Peoria and elsewhere.
Who are you if I may be so bold?
Interesting to see your post. I beleive you were first answered by Mark who is a nephew of the Enno you inqire of. Enno was named after an uncle Enno(andrew) who came from Ostfriesland.

My great-great grandmother was Jane Caldwell Neptune born2/23/1841 born in Gurnsey County,Ohio. Father Robert Caldwell, Mother Elizabeth Ann Coles.My Great-great grandfather was John Neptune son of William and Mary Ann Neptune.I have a journal wriitten by Jane Neptune from about 1892-1913.My aunt found it typed it out and gave all family members a copy.I have so many names,years places.My great grandfather was Charles Wesley Neptune 7/23/1870 son of John and Jane neptune.My grandpa was Carl Herbert Neptune 7/1906 his wife was Amy Alice Pace Neptune 7/1912

Enno Neptun did indeed live in Illinois, specifidally Peoria for most of his life except for the time spent in the army air corp during WWII. Unfortunately Uncle Enno passed away in May of 2007. Carolyn, who hasn't married, still lives in Peoria. Doug and his wife Patty live in North Carolina.

Enno married Elsie HARMS and they at least had two children that I know of.

a DAR membership application of a Mrs. Neana Marie
Neptune Lent. This was filled out in 1985. She goes
back 7 generations of Neptunes.

My dad's name was Terry Clyde Neptune was born March 13,1944 died April 13,1994. He was the son of Abraham Leo Neptune born July 4,1913 and died December 1971. And Abraham married Arlene Geneva Sedley.

Debbie, I have some family (Neptunes) that was born in Ritchie, West Virginia between 1873 and 1890. My grandfather was Carole Warren Neptune, born in 1881. He was one of 14 children. I don't see your grandmothers name, perhaps she might be a niece of his? What year was she born?
