Thanks for the invite! James was my boyfriend's great grandfather. I believe his father has pictures of Hugh and Elizabeth, as well as Roy and James though the knowledge of which one is which has been lost to this branch of the tree. Hopefully someone will be able to help us out with that! We won't have access to them again until our next visit home, we are currently living in Las Vegas.

Hi, is your william Nesbitt the one who came over to Canada from Ireland and was sponsored by his Uncle Samuel Nesbitt and eventually moved to Vesta, Franklin Co., Arkansas to Oklahoma and also moved back to Canada? I know he went back to Ireland and married a second time. Would love to correspond with you. edoz1

William James Nesbitt was my Dad's father. Dad was only 13 when Mr. Nesbitt died He rarely mentioned him. Gramma was NOT allowed to call him by his given name...only called him MR. NESBITT. Gramma was from Belfast...we children were truly blessed to have THE PERFECT GRANDMA! From recollections of people who knew him, MR. NESBITT was not a nice man. Gramma's maiden name was Watson. She married MR. NESBITT, an aunt's (Mary Ellen) husband, after he was widowed. He was 40 some years older than our beloved Gramma.

He & Mary Ellen apparently raised 6 children around Mescogee, Oklahoma before moving to Tessier, Saskatchewan. He and our Gramma had 8 children. He was about 84 years old when he died...leaving Gramma with 8 children to raise by herself. They were aged 2 years to 15. Gramma did not remarry. Our hearts were broken when she died of liver cancer on March 19, 1966.

My Dad and 2 of his sisters are still living. The oldest sister is 90 years old. She, Mary Nesbitt, (MR. NESBITT named her Mary Ellen, after his first wife) is 90 years old and gives glowing reports of MR. NESBITT. She was the apple of his eye! Sadly, none of the other children had anything good to say about him when they occasionally mentioned him (very, very rarely). They all, except for Mary, adored their Mom. From what my older brother & I have heard, she is definitely just like HIM. My Dad had 5 sisters and 2 brothers. Uncle Jack was only 21 years old wben he was killed in a farm accident...he was enlisted to go with the Canadian Navy to W.W. 11, but died before he left home. Gramma's last photo of him is him in his naval uniform.

Please feel free to contact me. Dad probably would be glad to help you in your search for information!

Hi Dee: I'm Jason Davis of West Grove, PA. I know this post is old, but just in case you still check it or other people are curious. I come from this line of Nesbitts. Joseph came from Duns, Scotland to New Castle, DE to Cecil County, MD. Three of his sons stayed there and the rest went west. Samuel, Moses, and Alexander are the ones that stayed. Of them I'm a descendant of Moses. My line goes Moses>Robert J.>Samuel Bell>Ella Elizabeth. Ella was my gggrandmother and married John Dabler so that's where it ends for me. I'd love to here from Nesbitt's that are related. Sorry I'm a little new to this. I have plenty of info compiled by my grandmother Josephine Bird Davis I'd love to share. You can
email me at Slabito@gmail.com Anxious to hear from anybody!

Time to try and solve another mystery. Jessie Guthrie Nisbet, born to parents William Mackay Nisbet and Jessie Guthrie on January 11 1921 in Maryhill, Glasgow, Lanarkshire Scotland.

She apparently married a Canadian soldier during or just after WWII. Mystery one, not sure who she married or when or where. It is thought that she arrived in Canada about 1946 but I haven't located her yet.

Mystery two, Jessie apparantly died in London Ontario Canada, not sure when, but if she lived into her 60s or 70s then it would have during the 1980s to 1990s.

Has anyone come across Jessie in their research. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Eric Nisbet

I'm sorry but I don't have any information for you, my family I'm researching are the Downings - a female Nesbitt married into the Downing family hence the link.

The house Tubberdaly, outside Rhode, King's County/Co. Offaly was burnt down 2 a.m. 15th April 1923. You can see information on the house if you Google Toberdaly House and look for www.buildingsofireland.ie - its the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage.

I also found a Connor family in Toberdaly but I don't know if it's your Connor family. They are in the 1901 census www.census.nationalarchives.ie They may be too late.

The father is Edward Conner aged 55 and there is a daughter named Annie aged 24 who is described as a general domestic servant.

Hope some of it helps,
Jill

Hi, Willie Nesbitt is my Grandfather and I am currently trying to trace the Nesbitt lineage as far back as I can get it. Meredith and Leila would be my Great Grand Parents. Willie Married Bessie Smith of Dudley/Laurens Ga. I didn't know my grandfather. He passed before I was born. But i do know his brother, uncle Elton, you have him down as Alton, but I'm pretty sure it's Elton; at least that's what my mom and her sisters call him. So far, I have found that the parents of Meredith Nesbitt are Meridith Nesbit (spelled differently) and Rebecca Nesbit. I want to go further and possible get thier information, then I would be tapping into slavery times. If you have found any further info, email me what you may have. jerometrippjr@live.com. Right now, the Nesbitt family from Willie Nesbitt is in Macon Georiga, some in Ft Lauderdale Florida and Miami. It would appear that you are my mom's cousin, Her name is Clara Nesbitt-Tripp. Among her sisters are Bessie, Mary, Rosetta, Margaret, Mattie, Christine, and Judy, and two Brothers, Willie Jr, and John Kennedy Nesbitt.

Thank you very much for that, it fills in at least one blank. Do you know of a place which may have some history on the Nesbit or Maxwell families during that time? I know several of those, if not all the Maxwells are relatives of mine. Once I get back to my tree, it will probably fill in additional blanks. I still need to find the past of Thomas Nesbit, so I guess my next stop is somewhere in South Carolina for his family.
Again, thank you so very much, I thought there was information but just couldn't find it.

I guess you are a grandson of Henry and Henrietta Nesbitt (White House housekeeper under FDR) I am the great granddaughter of Henry's brother, George Knight Nesbitt, who first settled in Minnesota and them moved with his family to Chicago. His eldest son, William H L Nesbitt, is my immediate grandfather. I believe that in the 1940's, he and his daughter Jane visited Henrietta in Washington. I have a copy of her WH Diary and WH cookbook. Helen Carter

Thanks for the reply!

The first 2 records, as well as the 4th look correct to me.

In the 1861 Census of Canada, I believe he is listed in this household:

James NESBIT 48, Agness NESBIT 67, Joseph NESBIT 36, Robert NESBIT 34, Agness NESBIT 30, Jane NESBIT 28, Lisia NESBIT 23, William NESBIT 21,

On William's marriage license it lists Robert Nesbitt as his father, and Agnes Nesbitt as his Mother.

Gathering information off of other's family trees it lists a Matilda Hand as his mother, and Robert R. as father. Their birthdates are what confuse me. Robert is listed as b. 1847, and Matilda b. 1853. (William b. 1860) Matilda could be a second wife, or first wife if he had William at 13, with another woman.

Am just now seeing your message so you might already have the answers you needed. William Nesbit/Nisbet was born in Lancaster Co. (Camden Dist.), SC in abt 1755. He served as a captain (not colonel) in the Rev. War. His SC pension record is available through the SC archives. A transcript can be found at the following link: http://files.usgwarchives.net/sc/lancaster/military/revwar/s...
His wife's name was Jemima Baker rather than Baxter. Here is a link to his memorial page on find a grave: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=Ni...; His headstone does list him as "colonel", but his service records show that he was a captain. The headstone is more "modern" and cannot be used as reliable proof of service for DAR.

Hi,

I am Amy, and I am trying to figure out if Florence Evelyn is in fact relation. My family tree contains Lulu/Lula, and William. I am not certain, but the lineage states that they were also born and from Pennsylvania. Is there any other information that can help lead me to the answer. I am a CT Nesbitt, and my family has been here since the late 1880's. Thank you.

Amy

What part of Ireland, County, Townland etc did your Nesbitts come from?

Mine either came from Dublin, Ireland or from Andalusia, Spain. Perhaps with military, merchant or entertainment livelihoods.

Our Nesbitts came from Ireland as well, and immigrated to Louisiana. Not sure where they immigrated first though. My grandfather was William Leonard Nesbitt born to William T. Nesbitt and Rosina Koenig. I hope you check out my family tree.
