You mention an Eliza Cock married a William Nettle 9/11/1872 at the residence of William Cock, Moonta Mines, South Australia. Do you have any other information on Eliza Cock and her parents/William Cock?

I am trying to locate my family, a Susan Cock ... South Australia, who married a Leonard Hillman, 1866, Blakiston, SA. Some of their children were born in Moonta Mines area around the 1870's. Her father is listed as William Cock on her marriage certificate.

I am looking for any information on a George nettle whose daughter was Elizabeth. I have found him and elizabeth in an 1841 census of Devon,Stoke Damerall, Stoke district 1, Devonport, England.
George is listed as 60 years of age, elizabeth as 5. He had a son by another wife that was quite a bit older than Elizabeth, He was Richard. He later immigrated to Canada.

Except I know they were for they are my gr.gr. grandparents Eleanors parents were Mathew and Sarah Barron Nettle. They had 9 children 8 girls and one boy James nettle , he was born abt 1800 in Charles Co, Md and died in Mo. William and Eleanor nettle Penn had a daughter SArah ,born in1822 before they left for Indiana. then onto Missouri

I believe it is the same one - I could not have read the name if I didn't know what it was, the cnesus is so light, also the only way I found it is looking for a man who owned property adjacent to Abraham's because he wasn't listed in the index because the writing is so light you could hardly read his name, but knowing he would be there made it possible, again I am not at home so can't access my records. I get belong to ancestry.com and can access the census there, I don't know any free sites that have it, does rootsweb have the 1850 census? I haven't checked recently but I will.

Hi Marie, I could not access the 1850 Monroe Co., VA census. Send me the internet site and I will be happy to look at it. I do have listed a Andelin Nettles who is a daughter of Abraham Nettles II and Dicy Welbourn and she is listed as being married to James Bell. Do you think this person could be the same person as Ardelia Nettles married to James Ball?

Here is the list of children as I have them:

Hi Marie, I think that Ardelia must be the female child of Abraham and Dicy (Welbourn) Nettles that I had listed but did not have a first name for. I'm happy to get that and the rest of the information that you sent from the Raleigh Co., WV death records. I have 11 children listed for this couple.

Did you know that Abraham Nettles I served in the American Revolutionary War? He was a disabled Revolutionary soldier and received a pension but does not have a DAR marker. He served in George Washington's Fourteenth Virginia Continental Regiment. My husband and I visited the cemetery (Peterstown Cemetery in Peterstown, Giles Co., VA)where he is buried in 2002 but we weren't certain if we had found the right marker or not. It was a rock with some engraving on it but the only thing readable was the name Nettles.

Also, a descendant of Abraham Nettles I (a gg-grandson, Clee Woods) wrote a very interesting book about this family. It's called, "West Virginia Was Good", First Edition, Mountain State Press, Charleston, WV.

Gloria, I found Abraham Nettles on the 1850 Monroe Cty Census, dist 39 1/2 page 110 with a list of children, it is very hard to make out, very dim, but one of the girls names looks like Ardelia if you have access to the census and could look at it I would appreciate it, since you have a list of his children

Hello Marie, Your Abraham Nettles II who married Dicy Welbourn is my 1st cousin 6 times removed. His father, Abraham Nettles I was married to Mary Susannah McDaniel. His father was Vicaris Nettles who married Margaret ?. My Mary Belle Nettles was their daughter and a sister to Abraham Nettles I. I have Abraham II and Dicy's children listed but do not have a female named Ardelia although I do have a femail listed with an unknown first name who was born in 1838. So, if she is Ardelia and is your 3rd great-grandmother, you now have your 4th, 5th and 6th great-grandparents' names. I have more information I can share with you later. Let me hear from you soon.

I just last night found out that my 3rd gr grand mother's maiden name was Ardelia Nettle married to James P. Ball - her parents were Abraham Nettle and Dicy Welbourn they were married 27 July 1828 in Giles Va(WVa) any relation to your Abraham Nettle? If so please let me know
