Don...I had forgotten that we had a brief conversation about the Neuhaus line years ago. I believe I have put together sufficient information to link Friedrich Neuhaus as being the father of August Neuhaus. I have added your information on George Schaffer Neuhaus (I am writing that from memory so I am probably not quite correct)...I will send you an invite to the tree I have, should you like to see that information...at least I think I know how to do that....greg newhouse

One of my 5G grandfathers, Johannes Neuhaus was a farmer at Allendorf, Westphalia, Preuss. He had two sons, Johannes (b~1768) and Anton (b~1775)
Joannes Neuhaus m. Anna "Margaretha" Biggemann on 11-21-1786 They had:
Joannes (9-18-1787/1832+)
Joannes "Albinus" (~1788/1830+)
Joannes Heinrich ("Henry") (1-13-1793/4-23-1855)
Anna Maria (4-14-1796/?)
Maria Elizabeth (8-26-1798/?)
Franz (~1800/1840+)
Anna Maria Lucia (3-24-1801/?)
Anton (2-5-1804/?)
Joannes "Joseph" (3-1-1810/?)

Joannes Heinrich ("Henry") Neuhaus migrated about 1842, to Covington, Kentucky. He and his brothers ran freight down the Ohio/Mississippi then travelled back on the Natchez trace. The War of Northern Aggression halted their trade and Henry moved to St Anthony, Indiana. One of his sons, Johannes (of course) Bernard Neuhaus was born there in 1867. I think it is possible there maybe a link there. German families tended to keep the first and last names the same and would be known by the middle name. The names of brothers and uncles provided the middle names often. It could be, your Bernhard is a cousin of Heinrich.
Don - have made a little progress. I have obtained the death certificate of my Great Great Grandfather August Newhaus. His father is listed as Fried. Newhaus. It is then quite possible that August and George Newhaus (Neuhaus) would be brothers. My next step is to check out the 1860 Illinois census to have the final link for August and Friedrich and hope Friedrich and his wife match up with the 1870 census data - perhaps that will bring everything to a close. Happy holidays, Greg

Your research ties into my findings and personal knowledge of George, Emma, George, Jr., Arthur and Myrtle. These are my Great granparents, grandfather (arthur) and grand uncle and aunt.
I Thought the Newhaus reference was bad spelling by the census taker, but now see that Newhaus makes some sense. I will go down this path and hope we connnect our lines.

Don Carlson, Lakewood, Ohio

thanks for your thoughtful posting.

Not sure if you are still looking, but try Newhaus. These are plausible links - Friedrich Newhaus - 1870 Census Illinois has two sons, one George, listed as 3 years old. 1900 Census for Cook County Illinois has George Newhaus, with wife Emma, sons Arthur and George and daughter Myrtle. George is listed as 33. The 1910 Illinois Census also has George and the 1910 Census has Aruthur and George Jr listed on the same page.

I may link to this family through August Newhaus - but the only link I have right now is both he and Freidrich are located in the same county, same last name and same occupation in 1870.

Anyway, if you are still looking and have not considered this information - here it is and good luck.

I have recently found information of birth places for my husband's ancestors. Up until recently all we knew was Schleswig-Holstein. We have now been able to narrow it down to Bramstedt and Hohenfelde!

Maria Timmerman was born in Bramstedt and married Wilhelm Fick. They emigrated to Chicago in 1872. Maria Ohland was possibly born in Hohenfelde and married Christian Neuhaus. They had children before emigrating to Chicago in 1867.

Hope this sounds familiar to someone, thank you in advance.
Elaine Larson Neuhaus (husband is Carl Neuhaus)

Dear Patricia:
I have been involved in family history for about a year and have found the kindest, most giving people through the process. Thank you so much for the lead. I have no leads from my great-grandfather at this time, (George Schaefer Neuhaus) of Chicago, Illinois. George was a Chicago policeman and had a number of children including Arthur, George jr. and Myrtle. I believe there were some infant deaths.
Also, George was married to Emma Ronshausen of Chicago. I have found a Ronshausen family in Alton Illinois.....
Your lead may have a double edge. Thank you for taking the time.

I hope that your lead will find that we are related.

My Neuhaus heritage comes from my Mother, Mildred Irene Neuhaus. Mom's mother was Irene McEwan of Belleville, Illinois and Dad was, my grandfather of course, Arthur William Neuhaus. Grandpa Neuhaus's father was George Schaefer Neuhaus, a Chicago policeman and his mother was Emma Ronshausen.

I knew my great grandmothers in high school, but never met my great grandfathers. I wish I had asked them more family questions.

My challenge is to find out where George Neuhaus was born and who his parents were.
Right now I am active in the Ronshausen line.

thanks for your kind help.
