John Wesley Newberry (1870-1908)

I'm trying to go back further than John Wesley Newberry (My Great-Great Grandfather)

According to the limited Census Records I was able to find him on, he was born in West Virginia in 1870. He died in 1908. It lists his parents were born in West Virginia.

Any suggestions as to where I can look?

It's like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Wow, first off, thank you so much for responding even though it was such a difficult part of your life. I know all about the abusive and philandering nature of the men in that family, and thank God it ended with my father and my brother. Dad is living in Missouri working with a charity he founded. I am in Boston, now. I wish I had known about you sooner, I was in Georgia visiting about 2 months ago. If you'd like to contact me more privately, my email address is ambularnubular@yahoo.com, I have so many questions that I've been trying to get answers for so long. Dad remembers small things sometimes, but I think he has blocked out quite a lot and I don't blame him. It's mostly names of people farther back than his parents. I did not get to meet Bernice or my dad's dad. Bernice passed before I was born, and I think that most of the rest of that part of the family was estranged by the time I came along, except for Keena.

Amber-My name is Lenda, I was married to your dad's brother (now deceased) James W Newberry, Jr. We shared a son together that was born 8-9-76. I can tell you that the reason I divorced James is because that family (the men-all except Robbie-whom I presume is your dad)is VERY violent. James kicked me down a flight of stairs while 4 mos pg., tried to run me over with a car and taped me in the apt when he went to work and if the tape was moved I got BEAT. I do know that J W Sr. worked at the Gwinnett Daily Post and lost that job due to alcohol and women calling him on the job all the time.
Do you live in Athens? I live in Commerce if you would like to get together and talk we could meet somewhere neutral. Is your dad a preacher in GA? Did you get to meet your grandmother Bernice when they lived on Satula Ave?

Lula H Newberry was born 1 Sep 1898 in Wilber, Iosco, Michigan. She married Russell D Alda. She died Jul 1981 in Michigan.

Pearl Ella R Newberry was born about 1902 in Michigan.

John Duncan Newberry was born 20 Apr 1904 in Wilber, Iosco, Michigan. He died 27 Jun 1980.

Donald George Newberry was born in 1906 and died 12 Sep 1906 in Wilber, Iosco, Michigan.

Hazel Alice Newberry was born about 1908 in Michigan.

i am a great granddaughter of wiley crawford newberry. His son lois leon was the father of my father neil dean newberry. Wiley died in tallapoosa county al and has a headstone in fishpond cemetary of primitive baptist church. we are building his tree (jcirvin) along with some other al relatives. so far we are docmented to 1684. others have gone back much further, but we want to do it ourselves. the son of neil dean lives in hamilton, ga. would like to hear from you. nancy newberry

I am having a terrible time trying to find any information on my grandfather, James Wilbur Newberry and great grandfather Walter Newberry.

Here is what I have so far:

My dad, Robert Stewart Newberry had 3 sibilings: Connie Newberry, Keena Newberry, and James Newberry jr.

My grandfather James Wilbur Newberry was married to a Bernice Stewart. Walter was married to a woman named Mae with an unknown last name.

I have been able to find little to nothing on this branch of the Newberry family. Can anyone please tell me who Walter Newberry's parents were and what where his dates of birth and death?

My father says that this part of the family has a very dark history and he remembers very little as he did not have a very good relationship with his father.

Searching for birth mother. Closed adoption in Evanston, Illinois from The Cradle. Born 09/09/1952-adoption decree states Sally Newberry as the birth mother. Thank you for responding. Unfortunately, we know nothing about Buena Newberry other than dob, dod, marriage, children. We know nothing about her childhood or people--only that she was "an orphan." Have been unsuccessful locating her in early census records. I don't know when she was orphaned, where she grew up, or even whether she was raised in an institution or a foster home. Her early years are a complete mystery to any living family.

Hello--I'm looking for any information on my husband's maternal grandmother, Buena (nee Newberry) Scarborough. She was born in TN (Stewart County?)14 Apr 1890. "Mamie" married Isaac Frank Scarborough & they lived in Stewart County, where she died 14 Oct 1959. All the surviving family knows about her early life beyond her last name and dob is that she was an orphan. No one even remembers her mentioning her childhood. I have looked extensively on ancestry but no luck. Anybody out there holding any keys to this mystery?

Thank you so much for the picture. What a good looking couple. I live winters in Safford, AZ and summers in Luna, NM a very small place. My mother Ernestine Hatman lives in Safford so we have a mobile home near her, she is 87 and lives with my sister. I have so enjoyed your messages and because of you now have sooooo much more info on a family I never knew much about. I have an old phone number of Sid's and plan to call there soon. It has been a very stressful summer so far and as it gets better, maybe I will also. You have been so gracious to me and I thank you for that. We are retired Navy and living in Nampa, Idaho. Originally from Colorado, we spent 30 years (all over... Hawaii, Guam, California, Illinois, Virginia, and Florida), retired from the service in Orlando but stayed in the Military Training Systems complex working for various contractors that kept us in Orlando, moved us to Washington (DC), then to Ogden Utah and finally decided to settle here as my wife has cousins here and it's a very affordable retirement place. We have a Motorhome so try to get away for the winters........ occassionally east to FL where our son lives and NE where our Daughter and family (3 girls) were but now, mostly SW since our Daughter and youngest Grand Daughter are here. So........... keep the coffee pot on... we may visit you sometime. Ha.

I tried to attach a recent picture so you can see what....er whom you are dealing with. Ha. If it didn't work I'll email one to you.

Wayne, you are a dear person and I am glad to say we ARE related. Since your reply to my post I have found entire families. I hope the one I found on Arlie and Vada is complete. I have that Sidney was their 1st born, followed by Randy, Susan, & Sandy. No other information. When born, where lived, nothing. I do intend to follow up on Sidney still being in Yuma. Can you believe, just across the state! I thank you soooo much for answering this old lady's message. I can't wait for your info and as soon as I get them entered into my PAF, I will send you all I have on the Hatmans.We are gone most of the summer. Well,I'm sorry I don't have anything other than what I mentioned in my last message about the Hatman side. But, I will send you the Newberry stuff if you want it. My Dad was William Henry Newberry son of Henry Lincoln Newberry & Sarah Ann (Day), Grandson of William Henderson Newberry. I will print out an ancestry list that will show the complete Newberry decendant line. I'll get it printed and out and in snail mail by Monday or Tuesday.

Just saw your post. Navada Jane was one of my father's sisters. She was 6th and he was last of 8 siblings. I have Arlie's middle name as Orvil. I got this from my mother. I haven't had any contact with my cousin Sid Hatman in a long while. I'm not even sure he is still alive. They owned a Mobile Home Park in Yuma last I knew.

POW/MIA Korean War NEWBERRY

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Bibb County , GA as his home of record. His remains were never recovered. Our government has no family contact at this time for this soldier

Soldier: JAMES RAY NEWBERRY
Born:1931 Caucasian
Date of loss: 8 Decembr 1952 MIA

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (79years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

No I am wrong. The family returned to Illinois after he died. My grandmother was not born yet when he passed away. I beleive though that she was born in Shelby Co. I could be wrong and can find out the correcgt information. She always told me it was from a turkey hunting accident.
