William Robert Newbury b.1846 CT. I am looking for his parents or any relation. The only reference I can find for 1850 is a 5yr old "pualper" , no parents listed. This info is from 1850 South Windsor, Hartford, Connecticut Federal Census. W.R. Newbury moved to Newark, Ohio in 1855 and is living with Eno family (1860 census has him listed as "in family").He married Elizabeth Milligan ~1870,children William and Harry.Elizabeth died and he married her sister Martha and had child Iva Newbury. I see a marriage between William Newbury and Miner in 1851 (after the birth of William)in the Barbour Collection. Is this his father??

I do have a marriage certificate for them. And yes, the Newbury's tend to be somewhat elusive. Information changes slightly from census to census. My line descends through Edward James Newbury, born 1875 in Leytonstone. Other branches of the family seem to share a lot of the same issues - fathers disappearing, aunts taking in children, etc. If you'd like me to send you a copy of the marriage cert, let me know. You can e-mail me at debico373@gmail.com. I haven't been able to pin down John Sr. (1836) with any great authority other than his father's name from the marriage cert. There are a few possibles. Since I live in Canada, I'm quite dependent on the internet for research as well. I usually hunt down possible events in the BMD indexes and then have to send for them from England. Most of the time I'm right, but they do let me know when I'm wrong for a nominal fee.

Hi Debbie
I am also trying to find out a bit more about the newbury's you are searching. My grandfather John Newbury (born 1900) was a son of frederick John (born 1866 croydon)son of John (born 1836) I have a puzzle on my grandfathers and his sister clare born 1899 birth certificates, which, 6 years after there birth was changed regarding their mother. Do you have the marriage certificate for John (born 1836) to Ann Harris? I am doing all my research by internet as I now live with my family in New Zealand
Hope to here from you

Terry Moll (nee' Newbury)

DNA Project for Newberry/Newbury/Newburgh

Hello Newberry/Newbury Researchers:

A DNA project is being set up for the Newberry surname. If you are interested, please read on:

The first phase of the project will compare the DNA of known Newberry progenitors in New England through provable lineages. The founders are:

1. Thomas Newberry of co. Dorset, England son of Richard Newberye, Gent. and Grace Matthews.
Thomas was born 10 Nov. 1594 and emigrated to New England with his second wife and family in 1630 & 1634. Their sons were Joseph, Benjamin and John. He died in 1635, in Dorchester, MA.

2. Richard Newbury of unknown co.
Elizabeth Josephine Newbre/Newberry/Newbury-MI

This is my gggrandmother, who I think is going to drive me to drink...I have so much conflicting info on her.
The only concrete info is that she was born in March of 1860. I have her parents listed as Guy and Sarah Hughes Newberry/ Newbre per 1860 census. But in her 2nd marriage,April 1890, she lists her parents as Jacob Newbury and Elizabeth Simone. If I can find her subsequent marriage lisc.(she seems to have buried five husbands)maybe I can get the truth. One other husband I know is Henry Emery. I don't know if she married him in MI or OH.
Only real concrete thing I have at the moment are pictures of her taken in the early 1940's with my uncle and brother and another with her daus. Eva, Mamie, my ggrandmother Dora, my aunt Reva and her son Robert Errol Normand in his Navy uniform. He went down with his ship in 1943 so I know the limit 9of the date on the picture. Where and when she died are as much a mystery as her birth.

Caroline Mathews Newbury (b.1848), son Horace (b.1871), lived Racine Co., WI

I have two original photographs of “Caroline Mathews Newbury (Mrs. W.W.)”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. One of the photos is of Caroline, with boys Horace and Robert Newbury, and with Maude and Grace Mathews. Photo of Caroline alone is a studio portrait and was taken in about 1900, in Burlington (Racine Co.) WI. Photo of Caroline with boys and Maude and Grace (who look like sisters) was taken around 1880 or so, and Caroline looks about 30, the boys about 8 & 10, and the sisters about 17-19.

I found Caroline in the 1900 census for Racine Co., wife of William Newbury, and her DOB is Oct 1848. In 1880 census, same location, she is wife of William W. Newberry (not spelling) and they are parents of Charles E. (11), Horace V. (9) and Marey A. (3). I did not find any Robert Newbury/Newberry or any Grace or Maude Mathews. Going back to 1850 & 1860 censuses, she is shown as daughter of Daniel and Ellen Mathews of Burlington (Racine Co.) WI.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Caroline or Horace Newbury.

Since you have found his birth you can send for his Birth certificate. That will tell you who his parents were and then you will know if they fit into my tree. Then you will know a lot about his brothers and sisters, aunts, uncles, etc.
If he does fit in you will see that his mother died not long after he was born and his father remarried and then died at 45 but not before remarrying and fathering 5 more children (my clan).

I don't believe your Sarah and mine are related. Mine lived and died in Dorset, England. I believe that at least one of her siblings immigrated to North America (perhaps Canada rather than the USA), and her son George immigrated to the USA but that was in 1877.
