Hi I am also trying to trace the origins of the Newell in Jamaica, My father says that we descend from the Scotish Newells but I wiil be getting more infomation from him shortly.
My fathers name is Gersham Newell, He had brothers Willy, Gus, Sony, sister Alice and Remelda Weir. My mother is Imogean Francis( Johnson) her mother was Kate Johnson step father was called Gee I think . sorry info very patchy but I'm sure we are of european Scotish descent.

I currently live in England, I have lived here for 54years I was born in jamaica st catherine and came to england at only 3 months old.

I have older brothers that were also born in jamaica Joel and Glassford sadly Glassford has passed away.

I hope this info leads you to more links. i will post more info as soon as i have it.

My g.g. grandfather was Wm's brother, John b.1830/ I was able to track John & Wm.from 1850 til their death, but having difficulty finding their father. Maybe some of you are researching the same family and can shed some light.

I think it is ina deed book, but I did not copy details.
Maybe he listed Jane.
Also Somerset newspapers at time of his death could list children. I think Paragon (maybe printed in Stanford) was a weekly.
Also, Samuel was a founding elder of First Presbyterian Church, Somerset (formed by folks from Pisgah Presbyterian, Waitsboro).

We own the house where Henry Beaty was born. I think, but cannot document that his grandfather was a Kings Mountain vet from a few miles east of Abingdon.

I have a Charles Newell, son of John Newell and Anise Howe, was born in April of 1851 in Oswego Co., NY and died in Iowa in 1910. He was married to a Julia, don't know her last name yet. His children were Pearl, John and Roswell. I'm going to the Southern California Genealogical Convention in Burbank in June and plan to see what kind of records I can purchase. Good luck.

I also have hit a brick wall with my Charles E (or A) Newell.
He was in Athol, Worcester County, MA in 1889. I found an "intent to marry" in Athol with Eliza Bennett (Bonin) in April 1890, but have not found a marriage record. He had a son, Ernest, born in Fitchburg, Worcester Cty, MA in 1891 and another son, Charles W, born in Athol in 1893. His wife, Eliza, died in Athol in 1894 and he left his 2 young sons with their maternal grandparents and was never heard from again. With no 1890 census and no marriage record I have no identifying information on Charles E (or A) Newell. He is my husband's grandfather and I'm stuck on the family name. If you think that one of your Charles could be this man, please let me know.

My John Newell was born around 1826 and died in 1880; married to Anise Howe, daughter of Perez Howe and Mary Newell. John was the son of Noah P. Newell and Hannah Perry. John and Anise had several children, one of whom was my great grandfather, Franklin Augustus Newell, born in 1854 and died in 1946. Could your John Newell have been a brother of Noah P. Newell? I have no information on Noah's family, only that he was born about 1786 in New York and died in 1858. I'll keep digging. I'd like to go back to New York and do some research, or hire a genealogist.

I have came upon a road block with him as to who his parents were...have heard stories they came from England but not sure...would appreciate any info that you may have...also he married a Dorothy Cooper (Edmund Cooper was her father)

My name is Roberta (Bobbie) Bliss Pittman, born 9/28/39, and I live in Camarillo, CA. I was raised in the Chicago area. My mother was the daughter of Caroline Newell and John C.O. Davis.
I have a bunch of information about the Newells. Carrie Newell was my grandmother; Franklin Newell my great-grandfather; John Newell of Oswego his father, then Noah P. Newell. I have wills from both Noah and Eleazer Perry (Noah's father-in-law). I have information located on Ancestry.com, but only on my own computer. I have not created a family tree online, as I am lazy when it comes to sourcing.

I'm not sure if this is in the same family but I have a Jacob Newell born 1796 in Vermont and married Julia Bosworth from Massachusetts. Their son Albert C Newell came to NY and raised his family in Genesee County which is adjacent to Wyoming County NY.

Sophie Arpajou is the mother of Sophie Tourville. She died probably shortly before 1850. There is a notary document from Quebec (inventory after death) made by her husband to sell the estate in Quebec (he was living in Chateaugay NY).

I did see that Mrs Ambroise Newell is the informant on Sophie Giguere's death in E. Douglas MA in 1913 I believe this is Sophie's daughter Nancy.
I have realized she doesn't have her grandfather or grandmother's info the names on your tree. I do have the copy of Sophie Giguere.
We trying to go over older correspondence and need to have you verify what document you had for the marriage of Sophie and Joseph Giguere. Michelle recalls something about the death info for Sophie Arpajou.

I am researching Samuel Love (b. 1790, VA), who lived in Marion Co, OH. There is some circumstantial evidence that he is the son of William Love, RS and Winford Carney. (The names of descendants seems to provide some evidence.) There is a Sarah Newell that married a Samuel Love in VA on 13 Oct 1813. Samuel was alone with his childen in Marion Co, OH. We have no record of Samuel's wife. Samuel had children by the names of John, Ellen, William H., Charles "Charlie", Rachel.

I have been examining a land record from 1837 in which Sarah Newell acquired property in Hancock Co, OH. This is not far from Marion County--just NW. The Newells were there and in Sunfish Twp,Pike Co, OH, where there was a Charles Love (a person who received a pension as a result of military service that appeared to be from a parent)and his son Samuel, again names associated with our family in OH. Pike County is south of Marion County. The Loves and Newells in that area are a mystery to me and I would love to find out more about any connection in Pike County.

The family lore that has been repeated to me is that Samuel married a woman with an indian background, but I have no evidence of that. This lends some credence to the story you have.

According to Ancestry post by Dennis Waldo, Emily Clements (c1861 MO) was 2nd wife of John A. Newell (c1862 IN). He does not identify her parents but shows whe was previously married to Jacob Null (c1859 MO). I'm not related but just passing the info. Regards, Jim Newell

My great grandfather was located in Durand, Wisconsin. He came grom Clinton County in NY in the 1860's at a young age. He shows up in the 1860 census in the family grouping containing a Joseph Newell age 37 at the time and John Newell age 67. His age is 8. Does anybody know anything about this family grouping that would help figure who James' father is? I am guessing it was Joseph and his father was John. But, I don't know.

Hello, I wonder if you've been able to sort out the William Newells in Westmoreland County PA. I have a William Newell who was living in Butler County, OH in 1820. He was from PA., wife's name was Charity O. He died in Butler County in 1828. His children's census records say that he was born in PA.

my paternal grandparents were grover cleveland newell and roxie/roxy collier newell of anniston alabama. he was a clubfooted bootlegger and died around 1948-49. she died around 1971-72. they lived on bancroft street in west anniston their children were curtis, coleman, grover jr.,clyde neal (female), doc (nickname), and another girl whose name I cant remember

He was born March 11, 1932 in Zanesville, OH (Muskingum County) the son of the late Ernest and Marie Tidd Newell.

He retired as a truck driver for Muskingum Iron & Metal and formerly worked at Putnam Transfer and Nicholas Trucking of Cambridge, Ohio.
He is survived by sons Teddy (Cathrine) Newell, William (Ella) Newell, Robert (Donna) McFee, and David (Penny) McFee all of Zanesville, daughters Frances (George) Deeds and Kathy (Jeff) Hardesty McHenry both of Coshocton, Donna (Darrly's) Batista of Miami, Florida and Ruth Britt of Zanesville, 31 grandchildren and 74 great grandchildren, a host of friends of the East End Café and Hospice of Coshocton County.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his wife Helen McFee Newell, son Kenneth McFee, daughter Betty Tilton, brothers Harry, Luther, Pete, and Russell Newell, sisters Wilda Worden, Hildy Bryant, Eva Norris, and Frances Newell, 6 grandchildren also preceded.

Friends may call from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm Thursday at DeLong-Baker & Lanning Funeral Home where services will be held Friday, November 4, 2011 at 1:00 pm.
Interment will be Woodlawn Cemetery, Zanesville, Ohio.

I show a Thomas James Newell dob Aug 19, 1885 as s/o Leander and Maggie (Deese) Newell. Is this same as your Thomas L? His WW I Draft Registration name is "Thomas James Newell." I'm not related as best as paper trail can identify, but am brickwalled in Mecklenburg Co. area with my James Newell c1795. Cannot identify his parents! Good to here from you. Yes, it seems that we are cousins in some way. My g-grandfather was Leander newell. My grandmother Maggie Annabelle Newell, was his daughter and my mother was Ethel Marie Barley. My grandmother preferred to be called Belle.She married Dewitt Barley. Leander was born 1853 in Union County, N.C. He married Maggie Deese about 1879. He later married married Bessie Mae Hefner, who
is not related to us.
Leander Newell's father was R.H. Newell born 1830 in Union County N.C. He married Martha?, who was born 1835 in Union County,N.C. Robert {R.H} also enlisted in the Civil War Dec.19,1862 for the Confederacy Company C, 10th battn Heavy Artillery Regiment North Carolina. He died of a disease on March 30, 1864 at a Raleigh hospital.
I have some more info on the Newells, but have not proven it yet. I also hope to visit the Libraries of Union and Mecklenburg Counties before this year is over.

Also not related, but this appears to be Mary Jessie Newell dob c1891 and d/o William L. and Julia K. (McAlister) Newell according to Ancestry.com post by "wmcbryde22." I believe this is same William L. who is s/o William T. and Mary A. (Brown) Newell of 1860 Meriwether Co., GA. Was contacted by Sarah through Ancestry regarding Patrick Newell regarding message left back in 2005. Tried to respond but Ancestry blocked me. Appears Sarah (Akovara) said do not reply. Don't know if this will reach you, but will try.

I have very little on the Newell's. I am not related to them but was interested in Patrick (1843-1906) because my ggf, Dennis O'Brien was also in the oil fields in Bradford, PA in parts of that same period and was killed by a falling oil derrick when he was only in his late 30's. Whoever did research on Patrick Newell would have come across interesting information on the subject. I'm sure they would have known each other. My Dennis was born in Canada and his father (also Dennis) was from Ireland.

I do have the obit for Patrick Newell of 1906. His wife was Mary (no last name) and children were Louise and Julia A.

If you don't have the obit, I would be happy to send it to you.
