Thank you for the information you provided in Oct 2011. It was accurate and I was able to run with it.

Now I am looking for the father of John A Newton and Charles Austin Newton. Their father's name was William Newton and hw is said to have been a seaman from Baltimore, MD. He died in West Elizabeth, Allegheny, Pennsylvania in 1854, but I have not located a birth date, death date, grave site or other information. Any help would be appreciated.

Albert

Hello Joseph,
Somehow, I missed your post on here - I am just now reading it for the first time. (5/9/12). Thank you for passing on the information to me, but this is unfortunately a red herring as far as my search goes. I requested information on my grandfather via FOIA back in 2008, and the document referenced F-2008-00908 is a direct result of my information request. So far, and as a result of that request, I have no evidence to prove that my grandfather was in the OSS (predecessor to the CIA which was created after WWII ended).

I have just gotten on ancestry again and am looking for cousins. I am the daughter of Baker D. Newton,Byron's the youngest of the Fred and Mary Stinson Newton's children and niece of Fred. Not too sure how this thing works yet but I would like to know which of Byron's "kids" you are and get in touch with you. Saw Richard's "girls" at a wedding this past weekend! I also ran across a good little write-up on Fred's swim after googling. It must be on here @ bands.ancestry.com/thread.aspx?my=flat&m=1920&p---newton None of that means a lot to me but I was able to read it before joining from the google connection.

We recently were given a page on the Colvin Newton Family Tree. Elizabeth Whitmore Reed was listed as born in 1786 in Somerset, PA and married Hezekiah Bonham Reed who was born in NJ. Does anyone know what the connection was to the Colvin Newton Family Tree?

Her father Jacob Whitmore, was listed as born 1767, in Carroll, Maryland. I am directly descended from Jacob. We have never known his birthplace. Does anyone have documentation to confirm his birth in Maryland and who his family was? We would greatly appreciate any information on this connection. Nancy Whitmore Childrey

Do you have any locations for this family you are positive about? Do you know where/when their children were born? Do you know the children's names?

What gave you the maiden name McCall? A marriage certificate? If so, does it say where they were married? Are you certain about her given name as well?

It seems you might be tracking several different Williams in the census if dates/places aren't lining up. So its best to start by laying out what you know as fact.

Very interesting! I am a newton My grandfather was Henry Newton fro Mecklenburg Co. His grandfather was William Newton, brother of Henry Newton, Robert's son.(your Henry) Have you looked on VaGenWeb Meck. Co. lately? Someone had posted the chancery suit of Mary Newton, your Henry's mother and there is a map I believe. You might be interested I di not know of Edward Newton, My nephew did a DNA and it is the one listed on the Newton DNA site as unknown. There are 2 connections on there you may be interested in, Robert Henry Newton of 1818 and I can't think of the other right off hand.
Judy Ryden is looking for info on Robert Henry Newton.

Re: Newton Family

I have the Kentucky Newton line that came from Mecklenburg County, VA. It is the Newton-Cox line that descended from John Newton (b 1799, d 1871) and Eliza Jane Cox (b 1810, d 1889) and John's nephew, Robert James Newton (b 1805, d 1852) and Phoebe F Cox (b 1802, d 1871 and Eliza Jane's sister). These two Newton-Cox families were responsible for a large Kentucky Newton family which also includes many Mecklenburg surnames including: Cox, Vaughan, Sizemore, PettyPool, Phillips, and several others. Obviously, the Newton boys move to Kentucky began a migration of others from Mecklenburg County (or the Newton boys were part of a larger migration which occured several years earlier).
Anyway, I have enjoyed trying to piece together the extent of this move and the background for how these families came together.
Both John and Robert descend from the line:
Robert Newton (1763-1811)
Henry Newton (1722-1783)
Henry Newton (1690-1730)
Henry Newton (1654-1713)
Edward Newton (1630-?)
I have not done much research on the Newton line in MecKlenburg County.

My father, Byron Newton,17,rowed the boat for his older brother Fred's swim. Before his death in 1995, I had seen a book describing the swim on my dad's bookshelf, but as his description was of a rather miserable trip and unappreciated service, I had never read it. I believe one of Fred's son's still lives in Gainesville and might have it. I'll try to contact him. Also have a picture of the two of them, in boat and water, as they start out, and of Fred's family in Clinton.

I am a descendant of Samuel Newton and Hannah Holt through their daughter Betsey. They are all buried at the Bailey's Mills cemetery in Reading Vt. I was there lat week and hope it survived hurricane Irene, as the cemetery is next to the river.
I am searching for info on Hannah, as she is a direct ancestor on the female side and I have her mitochondrial DNA. I'm trying to trace back the female line so any clue as to where the Holt's came from would be helpful.
Thanks
