Hi there, I was wondering if you had any more info on Francis Nicoll ? I have connections on my Nicol/l tree to Monikie and Carmyllie area, there is a Henry Nicol who married Isobel Gibson in 1744, they lived in Monikie area in the late 1700's . They had 9 children Hendry, William, David, John, James(1753), Andrew, Isobel, George and James(1765) . I believe Andrew may have married Barbara Gibson and had atleast 2 sons Moses and George both born in Monikie . Now Monikie is not a big place, so there is a good chance that our Nicols are related somehow .

Just stumbled over your thread.
My Father was Alexander Brodie Nicoll Born in Dundee in 1929.
His Father and Brother were both Williams. My Grandmothers name was Edith Bunker.
They owned Property at 164 etc Alexander Sreet Dundee (Built, I think by my Fathers Grandfather).
Not sure off hand, but I think they were originally decended from Nicolls from rural Angus/Forfarshire. There is an Alexander Nicoll (a relative of my Father) listed on the WWI war dead memorial board at Morgan Academy, Dundee. I think Alexander and William were common names in the family. There was a tradition of naming first sons after grandfathers and second sons after the father. My older brothers are called William and Alexander.

I am sitting here in Minnesota with Victor's older brother/my grandfather, Alfred Nicoll. He just returned from a WWII Honor Flight to D.C. In doing some web searching, we found your message. Grandpa would greatly appreciate a picture of Victor's grave. His father was asked about having the body returned to the states, but the week before a neighbor had a "relative" returned and it was the wrong body. The family felt it better to bury him with the other troops there.
Please forward any information you may have about Victor (Sam).

I'm looking for any information regarding Nathaniel Nicol (quadroon,creole) born c1814 Westmoreland Jamaica on the property of Hutchison Mure Scott.Name of property is the Lennox Sugar Estate & Hopeton Penn. His mother is Janet Snape c1790 ( mulatto,creole ).Nathaniel has three brothers named Neil who's older and Edward who's younger and William b.1819 and dies 1822. Janets mother is Clarissa,(negro,creole) b.c1767. Nathaniel marries a Charlotte Williams (mulatto,creole) b.c1815 at the same estate,marriage 16/12/1843 in Westmoreland by William Smith assistant curate.
Anybody with any information would be greatly appreciated.

My maternal grandfather was a Nicoll who lived in Liverpool in early part of 20 th century working as a Pharmacist. My mother, Annie, (or Nancy), Nicoll was one of a dozen or so children. She was born on 15 th February 1913 and died in Plymouth U.K. 12 th January 1975.

I've just started doing family hisotry on the internet and came across your post from about 2 years ago. There most definitely is a Robert Nicoll (he's my father in law), born 1915. I've only got back as far as Nellie's father Henry Allford in Fownhope, Herefordshire and am having great difficulty in finding information about Sydney's parents George (b 1843 in London) and Rosanna (b 1846 in Bristol). If you have any information about any of these people, I'd love to hear about it.

Hi all, I'm looking for the parents of Leonard Nicoll c1850 - 1929 born Jamaica,died Sydney,NSW,Australia. His father Nathan Nicoll c1820's and his wife Charlotte Williams c1820's.I'm asssuming that Nathan's of Scottish heritage but could of been born in Jamaica or transported or emmigrated or for work. Hi Dave,

I have been looking at my family tree stuff after a very long period away from it all. I came across your message on my board here at Ancentry.com. Yes I would be most interested in receiving a copy of your Nicoll database. You have no idea how much trouble I have had in trying to find out information for this side of the family. My grandmothers father took off after his wife died of TB leaving the kids to fend for themselves. It is like he just dissapeared, it frustrates me to no end I can tell you that. I am now on a mission to find him what ever it takes lol. All my family tree stuff is now with this email address ( familytiesrickard@hotmail.com ), it was getting too much to try and sort it all out so I had to set up an email address specficially for family tree stuff and nothing else.

I look forward to hearing from you soon in hope that maybe you can help me put together this elsusive family.

I am interested in your Nicoll database. My grandparents came from Monikie, Forfarshire. My ggrandparents were Francis Nicoll and Agnes Gibson Nicoll. They had about 9 children.

Hi, I'm doing some searching for a company called G H Nicoll & Co, Dundee. After being given a very old carving knife set by my uncle, The set belonged to his grandfather so must date to the late 1800's. Could be another link for you to follow as this could be your George Nicoll

Keith, my grandmother was the sister of Lewis Jr. b: 22 Apr 1901. She was Kathryn Moore Patterson b. 16 Jan 1899, Joliet, Il.

I have been trying to figure out the Moore line, my grandmother used to tell stories. It is my understanding that the Moore's were English and the Nicoll's Irish.

There is someone I've been trying to find that I once communicated with that had info on the Moore's, but I lost touch.

Alexander MacLaren Reid Nicoll was born in Dundee in 1902. According to published trees on this site his father David Brown Nicoll was in America in 1910. David's siblings I believe were also there. Did David's wife Margaret(Barnett Reid) & family go with him & if not why not?

FreeBMD does not give names of parents but you seem to agree with them.

I am related to a William Nicoll (born 1843) in Scotland and his son my great-grandfather was (born 1870) in Arbroath, Scotland. Coincidence?? I looked at the 1871 census on Ancestry and did not find a William married to a Margaret. More information could be useful.

I have my maternal great-great-grandfather's Coat of Arms, granted in 1863 by the Royal College of Arms. Donald Nicoll was, at that time, from Oldfields, Acton; this, seems to me, was somewhat west of London. His great-grandson, Alexander Nicoll, MD, my maternal grandfather, was a prominent surgeon in NYC for many years after his service in WW1. I am looking for family history information on my cousin's father, Andrew Nicoll. Below is what I know of him:
He was born in Scotland on Feb 11,1900. He passed away in Honolulu, HI on Nov 25,1987. I am not certain how many siblings he had but I do know he had a brother named Norman who lived in England and two sisters one named Jean Nicoll who lived in Scotand and the second sister was Mina Evans who lived South Wales.

My Isabel Ellis was probably born either in Dundee, or in the town of Forfar. The names and dates are close, but I don't think we are talking about the same family. I think my William died in Forfar after 1861.

Was your William by any chance married to Isabel from Cortachy and Clova/ My William would of died in 1857 at age 73 and is buried in Brechin Cemetery. He would of been born in 1784. Look forward to hearing from you.

I recently found a "Memento and Certificate of Baptism" for Alice May NICOLL, daughter of Arthur J. and Alice NICOLL in an antiques shop in Allen, Michigan. The booklet does not give the place of Baptism, but Allen is in south central Michigan, not far from the Indiana border. According the information provided, Alice May was born 28 June 1920 and baptized 08 December 1920 by Pastor H. G. McCann. The booklet was published by the Methodist Book Concern of New York and Cincinnati so the ceremony probably occurred in a Methodist church. I will be happy to send the booklet to an interested descendant for the price of postage.

My mother, Margaret Nicoll Wakeland, was Victor's (Sam) sister. I still recall that Uncle Sam visited us in Rochester Indiana shortly before shipping overseas.
I'd would appreciate a photo of his grave site so that I can show it the family during our annual Nicoll reunion this summer.
