My Grandmother Josephine Marie Nixey AKA Nicosia b. 10/17/32 d. 3/19/97. I know they were from PA Pittsburg.
I don't have any more info on the Nicosias right now. I'm sure there's a connection. The Nicosias I am interested in lived on McClure St. in Alton Illinois. My Great-Grandmother's nephew James W. Jones, Jr., married Mary Nicosia around 1929/1930 and they had at least one daughter named Patty born about 1930 and another younger son. I will keep an eye out for any connection to your family.

Although I don't know much about this, I do remember my father, Anthony Nicosia b. 10/2/1911, talking about spending time in the Chicago area with his Uncle John. My Grandfather was Angelo Gaetano born 1888 in Montemaggiore, Sicily. He was married to Anna Bonomo. His father was Antonio Nicosia and mother was Filippa Messa. I don't have my info on my new computer, but I will try to get it installed. I do have the names of my Grandfather's brothers and sisters and I will check them out.

Debbie

How about the name Josephine Marie Carlise b. 5 Jan 1901! She was in the Cook Co, Chicago, ILL census for 1930 married to Catino "John" Nicosia b. 1897 Italy; their eldest son Tony was b. 1921 in Louisiana and she was born in Louisiana; her folk from Italy! They also at that time 1930 census had: Samuel b. 1923; Florence b. 1925 and Josephine b. 1926! You do not see any of these people either in any Nicosia research? Thanks!

There is a Pietro Nicosia listed in the Rochester, NY city directories from 1921/22 through 1948. He was a grocer till '28 then is listed as a sand and gravel dealer. His wife was named Sara and they had five sons (Michael, Stephen, Guy, Angelo and Joseph) and four daughters (Mrs. Frank Di Cocco, Mrs. Galeno Fornarola, Mrs. Cerafino Milazzo and Mrs. Dominic Malasano). They also had 17 grandchildren when Pietro died on August 27, 1947.

I'm not sure if this is your great-grandfather or not but supply the info for you to check on it.
