Hi I'm from new hampshire originally and saw how many people had posted so i'd thought i'd give this a shot. Both my father and grandfather lived in Conn. until about 30 yrs ago and i just thought it was too much of a coincidence that Alwin was also from the same area. If you ever wanted to compare family names I'd like to help you expand any family tree you may have now.

Our family history describes Anwar Nikolai settling in Manitowac, Wisconsin after immigrating from Prussia pre-Civil War era. From what I know, he would have been my great-great-great-great grandfather, i.e. I am 7th generation American. Most of my father's side of the family still resides in Wisconsin, the area around Colby/Marshfield having the densest population of Nikolai families and individuals in the country.

I'm looking for my great grandmother's sister and her family. She was Estonian but married a Russian officer from Tsar army so they had to escape to China (Harbin) from the Red Army and later to Australia when the Civil War in Russia/USSR reached China. If anyone knows anything about them please let me know (t_nigula@yahoo.co.uk).

Elza Otilia Nikolai, born 13 July 1901

I am a decendent of the nikolai's in Cleveland, OH. My Aunt has given each of us a short biography of our g-grandfater.
He was in the russian army for 14 years. His name was Alexander Nikolai. He moved to Poland the Lodz area and became a policeman and game warden. He had two sons Alex (1882) and Fred. Their mother Alexandria Smith (remaried and renamed on imigration) to Kurkoski then Lange. They settled in CA wine country and owned a vinyard for 47 yrs. with Fred and his half sisters and brothers. Alex went to CLeveland instead Married Marie Gall also from Poland. They had seven childen the youngest my late father Raymond who moved to San Diego in 1982. Raymond had four children, Don in Cleveland, Sue and Jan in CA, and Me (Rae) among a lot of places now in VA. Don and I have one Child. Strangly enough my child's father is also from Poland. Alex, Lydia, and Marge are in Cleveland and FL and FL. I have started a tree in GEDCOM format. I had come across Pauline in my research before.

My grandfather was Nik (Nick in Canada) Nikolai (Nikolayevich) and my great grandfather would have been Nikolai Nikolayevich.

All I know is my Grandfather was born in Tiegenhagen on Nov 22, 1927. His family was all separated during the War and his father was taken away and my Grandfather was separated from his brother Walter and his mother Olga Martens. They eventually reunited and made their way to the Dutch/Holland and then to Canada where their last name was changed to Martens (his mothers name) along the way. Unfortunately my "pops" passed away from an aneurism in 92 and me being a naive teenager didnt take down a lot of info. He could speak 7 languages though...which was amazing to me. His brother Walt also predeceased him from diabetes.

Also related to Dorothia Voth (born approx 1879) from Russia/Germany?

My Great-Great-Great Grandfather

My Great-Great-Great-Grandfather was Johann Nikolai, born Dec. 5, 1795 in Buch, Coblenz, Rhein-Pfalz, Germany. That's as far back as I know of my family history. His son, Jacob Nikolai (Nicolay in some sources) immigrated to America on Oct. 24, 1868 on the ship ARAGO via Bremen, Germany and South Hampton, England. That was the founding of our branch of the Nikolai's in America.
