Re: Samuel Noble in Williamsburg, Va. and Onslow County, N.C. ca 1780

Hi,
I am a decendant of Benjamin Franklin Noble I was always told the family came from maryland (Somerville Co) and they moved to Williamsburg and then on to NC. I do know that many of Samuels children are buried in Oakwood Cemetery Montgomery Alabama. Volney and George Washington Noble are buried in a private cemetery. But if you search Volneys name you'll get more info. World connect also has a good list of Noble's. BF Nobles house has been restored and is supposed to be modeled after his fathers home in Onslow. I don't know if they had a fleet of ships but BF traveled quite a bit to Wilmington meeting blockade runners.

Theresa,

I see this is an old post. I have some unfortunate but interesting news about a Dexter Noble of Pittsfield. I was researching my family on my Mother's side and I had an uncle, Bernard F. Plummer, 19, from Pittsfield, ME who drown in May 1943 in a sailboat accident in Hartland, Maine and Dexter Noble found my uncle's body according to the attached article I found. The drowning was very hard on my Mother, Elizabeth Plummer Simonson, who was 3 years younger.

Angela,
I purchased the portrait some years ago. I deal in antiques & have kept the portrait until now. It could be a watercolour of JEN or possibly his fathere/close relative as there seems to be a resemblence to the images on the information on reverse of the picture. I can send you a photograph of the portrait & the information on the reverse via e-mail. I do not know if you can send attachments via this site link & therefore will need you to advise where you would like the images sent - via this site or alternative e-mail address. You could also give a telephone number if you would like me to call you with information.
Regards,
Keith Honeycombe

Keith, JEN was my husband's grandfather, and lived with them until his death. I would be interested in more details of the portrait and the information on the reverse, to add to family information already held. I have a self portrait sketch, which may be a preliminary drawing.Do you have the picture because of a connection, or just interest?

I am researching Anna Noble who was from Caroline County, MD; was married in 1896 to Isaac Thomas Cannon, and lived in Philadelphia until her death. Part of the Kinder Noble Davis kin of the region. Would love to find photos of Anna and possibly husband perhaps from these reunions these clans have had and I believe do every 5 years now.

Tom Cannon
Riverview, FL
cannontj@gmail.com

Delaware records have not burned. The surviving land and estate records are excellent. There are also surviving tax assessment rolls and County Court records.

Vital records for the 18th century include Marriage Bonds and marriage records recorded in the Counties, but the Counties did not keep birth and death records until the end of the 19th century. There are some surviving church and Quaker records, but they are sparse.

William Noble was in Hall's (1st) Delaware Regiment, Continental.

There are few surviving DE Militia records. The Militia were organized within each County for defense within the county, and consisted in all free white able-bodied males aged roughly 16 to 60 who resided within a particular County and were not serving in State or Continental regiments. Relatively few militiamen had any active duty service. Surviving rosters for militia of any place are mostly indicating who attended a required regular drill and nose-counting (not considered active duty)

The Continental Regiments, by contrast, were a standing army.
Hi I am the great grandaughter of Robert Samuel Noble. I have a bit of information on the family. My cousin also has information. This is the same family. Robert Samuel married in Bay City and had one son and 3 daughters. His son died as a child. After the turn of the century Robert moved his family to Arenac County where he homesteaded. My grandmother told me a bit about the family and I knew a family name was Snodgrass. Robert was a foreman at Wheeler shipyard in Bay City before they moved north. I don't know much about his father or mother but knew they came from Pennsylvania via Ohio. She said she was Scotch Irish. Let me know if you are interested in more information, I would appreciate any infomation you have. Brenda

Thought this you might be of interest to you....

Look up the text of these two book titles on Google books "Re-unions of the Davis, Noble, Kinder families" (Page 22) and "History of Delaware : 1609-1888: Local history" (Page 1301-1302). I have found the newer version of the Re-union book on www.familysearch.org catalogue.

It is an interesting read. I am not sure if they are related to you, but there is a chapter that talks about Nobles in Maryland and moving to Delaware.

I am looking for Delaware Nobles....

John Noble from Delaware b. 1762

I am trying to get beyond John Noble in Delaware in Sussex County b. 1762 and then relocated to Calais, ME. I saw a post that the Delaware records were burned on Genealogy.com. I am trying to get in contact with Brenda Noble and Tom Bentum because of their posts on Genealogy.com.

I noticed that there was a William Noble in the Delaware Militia from Dec 1776 and April 1777 under Enoch Anderson and was wonder if William Noble was a relative of John and that William might be a way to get around the lack of records.

Looking for creative ways to see if we can go back beyond 1762 to find John Noble's parents and where they originated.

I also saw a posting that someone had made a connection between a William, John and Isaac Noble. I am not sure if it is my John Noble or not??

During this time, I found Nobles in MA, CT, SC and NC. I also did read that there were a couple of Delaware families that migrated to Delaware from CT. Perhaps, this is a trend that might be worth looking at??? I know for my other branches, that several families from a general area moved or migrated to another state.

Any guidance or ideas would be a greatly appreciated. I am hoping that this is not the end of the road. :)
Hi
We were discussing your Nobles back in 2003 and I was wondering if you had progressed any further.
Joe, my husband (who is the Noble) has taken over the Noble research and has extended it into the Nobles who, so far, are unconnected but born/living in the north-east.
You said John Noble married a Deborak Noble but Joe has him marrying a Deborah Luke in 1900.
Best wishes
Jean
