Hi lisa, as operating a free account at this time, hope this message posts correctly. Recently I began reconstructing this family line (after orignal records where damaged in a house flooding). My ggf was William Henry Normanton (1875), son of Henry Normanton (1845), my gggf. Would it be possible to correspond with you regarding this family link, as I have limited information, possible photgraphic evidence, etc, of this line, past my gf Annie Normanton? Also I have non-constructed lines to Hartlepool, and perhaps other Normantons in sunderland, to as early as 1830.

Any information would be gratefully appreciated, and I can make available - reports and Gedcom files for verification of details. Finally I will post details held on John B Normanton for clarification of original post. Regards, Thomas.

Hello Allan , I am Lisa, born Lisa Normanton - from hartlepool originally. My Grandfather is Ron Normanton and has told me about his line , his Gt G'father was Charles Normanton, born Sunderland approx 1880 - he may be a sibling of John - as he named his son John in 1904...if any of this fits I can happily give you specifics. Lisa - happy hunting.

My Mother (Mary Normenton) is the daughter of Samuel Normenton (aged 1 in the list given) This is the correct spelling for this family. She will be 93 in May 2006

I found the births, marriges and deaths indexes the most useful and accurate, but very time consuming to search.

Re: family research. NORMANTON

I am hoping that since you posted two years ago that you have a lot of research on the NORMANTON families of Barkisland. My gg-Aunt Eleanor ANDREW married William NORMANTON on June 8, 1895 in Christ Church, Ashton-under-Lyne, Lancashire. William's father was Thomas NORMANTON who was born in Barkisland, York, about 1835. Thomas was married to Ellen MARSH. They had 5 children by the 1881 census - Mary, 10y; Thomas, 8y; William, 6y; Elizabeth, 4y; and James, 1y. In 1881, the family lived at 32 Turner Lane in A-u-L. In June 1895, William was living on Oldham Road. William and Eleanor had 2 children of whom I am sure - Nellie and Leonard. There was possibly another daughter Gladys who was a witness at Nellie's marriage to John Edward MUTTER in Christ Church on August 8, 1925. Nellie and John recorded their residence as 83 Minto St. on the marriage certificate. Gladys NORMANTON married James WRIGLEY in 1929 at the Methodist Chapel on Stamford St., A-u-L.

I believe that William NORMANTON's siblings married as follows: Mary NORMANTON to Tom WRAGG in St. James, A-u-L, in the Dec. 1889 quarter; Elizabeth NORMANTON to John Willie WALKER in St. James, A-U-L, Dec. 1898 quarter; James NORMANTON to Sarah JOHNSON in St. James, A-u-L, in the Dec. 1900 quarter.

Have you come across any of these people in your research? I know that there were many NORMANTON families in Barkisland, but maybe my NORMANTONs connect with yours.

Hoping to hear from you,
Michele
