Norris family in England

This is a bit of a long shot, but in my family tree I have a James Heald married to a Lucy Norris (sometimes spelt Noris)in 1780 in Cheshire, England. In a book written by my great grandfather in 1915 he lists her father as 'John Norris, preacher of the gospel d.1782 of typhus fever. Mr Norris was a very holy man and one of John Wesley's preachers'
I was wondering if anyone would have any further information on this? Especially as the name 'Norris' still survives as a middle name in my family, and it would be nice to know who we are honouring!
Thanks.

I am looking for more information on the Norris family that moved from Kentucky, New Mexico and then Texas. Ed's father was Finnis. I did find some of the information about my family in Lubbock. I am the granddaughter of Lois Norris who married Wilton Ezra Fincher. Any help in current family members or help in going back to Kentucky. Trying to verify some information I have found.

I haven't researched the collateral lines but I know my great-grandmother and great-grandfather Norris were quite prolific and most of their children and many of their grandchildren. When you get to their great-grandchildren, it is quite a different story you go from families of 13,12, 8, 10, 7, etc. and then their great-grandchildren seem to have only one or two children if any. I susbcribe to this msg board because my great-grandfather was a Norris from Coleraine, County Cork, Ireland. As my research continues I will Keep an eye out and if Richard Norris of Ohio pops up, I will let you know you helped me in my research.

Oswald's parents were Clark Drew Norris and Abigail Hill, whose information appears in this family Bible transcript:

This record was published in the National Genealogical Society
Quarterly, Vol 15, No. 2, June, 1927, p 19.

----------------Everything below is verbatim from source------------

FAMILY RECORD OF JONATHAN NORRIS, AND HIS WIFE, CHARITY (DREW)
NORRIS, BOTH REVOLUTIONARY PENSIONERS

Furnished by Mrs. Amos G. Draper (Bell Merrill), Washington, D.C.

Jonathan Norris, born December 12, 1765; enlisted in 1782 at Exeter, N.H.
In 1818 he was a resident of Craftsbury, Vermont; in 1835 of Ticonderoga,
New York; and he died Nov. 25, 1839, at Moriah, N.Y.

He married June 12, 1791, at Corinth, Vermont, Sobriety Drew.
(See Norris, Jonathan-Sobriety, N.H. W19924)

Sobriety Drew was born October 27, 1772, and was living in Crown Point,
New York, in 1848, having received a pension as the widow of Jonathan
Norris.

Children of Jonathan and Sobriety Norris
Clark Drew, b. Feb. 18, 1792; m. Abigail Hill, Oct. 22, 1818.
Samuel, b. October 12, 1793; m. Oleva Hadley, July 25, 1814.
Jonathan, Jr., b. Feb. 21, 1795; m. Lucinda Cross, Oct. 12, 1820.
Hulda, b. ----, 1796; m. Myron L. Kimball, Aug. 28, 1821; died 1822.
Doratha, b. Sept. 22, 1802.
Manassah, b. July 2, 1806.
Joseph Ham, b. Aug. 14, 1811.

Jonathan's parents are Samuel Norris and Hulda Bartlett of Epping, New Hampshire, and Corinth, Vermont. Samuel's parents are Samuel Norris and Mary of Exeter and Epping, NH. Samuel's parents are Samuel Norris and Ruth of Exeter, NH. (That's three Samuels in a row.) The earliest Samuel's parents are Moses Norris and Ruth Folsom of Exeter, and Moses's parents are Nicholas Norris and Sarah Alice Cox of Hampton and Exeter, NH. Nicholas could come from England, Scotland, Ireland, or Roxbury, Massachusetts, and his father might or might not be John Norris. That takes the line back to about 1640.

I hope this helps.

Elizabeth Watkins

One more thing, does anyone know anything about a possible marriage between Benjamin B. Norris and a Susan Cockey that supposedly took place on December 20, 1814? I got that from a fellow Norris researcher on the email list back in 2008, she was on aol and I don't know if her email addy is correct. She said that a professional researcher also came up with the name Susan, but she didn't say whether or not the researcher found the Cockey name. I'm VERY interested in this as this would be my 4th great grandmother. TIA!

Proof Benjamin B. Norris married before Willamina

Finally, I've conversed with a number of people on the Norris forums and lists over the years trying to prove my Benjamin Norris Rowe s/o William H. Rowe and Sarah Clarissa Norris, was the grandson of Benjamin B. Norris. I finally caught a break. I found a marriage record for William H. Rowe to Sarah Clarissa Norris in the American & Commercial Daily Advertiser, published out of Baltimore, MD on Saturday Morning, Saturday 23, 1843. The marriage took place September 21, 1843.
I'm so excited now that I'm pretty sure I've linked myself now to Benjamin B. Norris, unless there's another Norris with the initials B.B., and the mere fact that Sarah's son's name is "Benjamin Norris" Rowe, well... that pretty much clinched the nail.

Lynda,
The Bayless line I have seen before....mabie not just on my Norris line...I also have a sister In law that was married to a Bayless and they have a son together, my nephew. Ok, with that being said, I will not make no promises...I will check out Hertiage, my personal disks I have of other sources and my own research and also look at what I have on ancestry. I know that the Bayless married in more than once....my nephew is what made me remeber this surname.
I can do a broad search for him on Hertiage. I will have to do it later this after noon. I just came to ancestry this morning to add some more of my research so I would not forget it. I will e you personally the next time.
Kelly
PS
You are welcome, and you can look at my tree also, it is available and if you find something that even looks like it could be him, let me know. You may find it before I do. Who knows.
I also get that excited when on a good lead, so don't apologize for being excited. I do it too, and I'm sure other have also.
Here is the link to my tree....
http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/27428979/family
and I will e you with anything I might find.
Kel

Kelly I can't thank you enough. I have exhausted all my resources including the LDS Genealogy Computer Library (I live in Utah). There are sooooooo many books at the one in Salt Lake, but I live 3 hours away from it.
My email address is lyndawardle@yahoo.com
Sometimes info like this may help, so I'll give it to you. Herbert Donald married Eva Madeline Bayless 12/1936. My mother is their oldest (of 10)Susan. She married my father Wayne Morris Johnson sometime in 1958. Neither can remember exactly when. (Mom was pregnant with my oldest sister)Us kids are Kimberly Francis Johnson DOB 3/27/1959, Deborah Ann Dob 3/31/1960, died 5/20/1998 (Ovarian Cancer)me, Lynda Michelle Dob 10/12/1964 & Mark Wayne Dob 11/5/1965. Mom & Dad split up in 1974. Dad died 6/09. Mom is still alive.(DOB 8/21/1940) Also I have found a cousin of my mother's, Mike Norris. He responded to a post of mine on Rootsweb and actually posts "If your mom is Susan, she was a flower girl at my parent's wedding I guess that makes us cousins". Mike is in his 50's, I'm 47. Now I'm babbling! LOL I'm just so excited at the POSSIBILITY of having more info on Charles Sr. Hopefully, I'll hear from you soon.
Take care.
