I'm looking for information on a James Norton who was living with Patrick Gately's family in Boston, MA as a “boarder” in 1910. He may be related to Catherine Gately (nee Norton). James immigrated to the US in 1899.

I am also looking for Nortons.

Where did your Nortons immigrate from and what age was this James on the census data.

Nortons were from Scotland/West Lothian/Bathgate area
Some departed for Canada and the James born abt 1876 I can not trace him or Ann. The father was Patrick kids Ann, James, Michael

I strongly suspect my Nortons come from around the town of Athlone. This James Norton was 27 per the 1910 Census and immigrated to the US in 1899. I can share some info on these Nortons if you think there is a match.

Bob,

No idea where my Nortons came from in Ireland ( slight possibility Queens/Laois). The son Patrick (not sure about parents) migrated to WLN area in Sct about 1855-1860. There are other Nortons in same area in Bathgate but have not been able to connect them - yet. The parents of Patrick were Michael Norton and Mary Dunn(e). Patrick was born abt 1842. Patrick may have had brothers: Hugh, John, Michael but not confirmed. Ireland is so difficult to trace names prior to Civil Reg in 1864 and the Sct census say "Ireland".
Patrick had kids: James, Ann, Michael all born in Sct.

Take care
Bob

Do you know if Catharine (Norton) Gately and her husband had a daughter named Annie? My grandmother was a Norton. Her father was Bernard Norton married to Catharine Walsh. They had 3 sons, John Edward (from Bernard's first marriage), Patrick, and William. My grandmother, Catherine, was their youngest child and married Bernard Luppold. My mother always talked about her cousin Annie Gately but I've never been able to find the connection to the Nortons.

This Norton family lived in Roslindale if that is any help to you.

Please advise. Marie

Patrick & Catherine had 3 sons. Two (John b 1903, & William b 1905) survived. One (Martin b 1913) lived only 5 minutes.
