Nortons in NY MI

lorilondon  (View posts) Posted: 9 May 2000 12:28PM GMT
Does anyone have info on Nortons in NY in
early 1800's, (Perhaps Chenango Co.), then
moving on to MI after 1850. Some even went
to IN after that time.

Thanks, Lori London

Yes, there is a lot of history in New York about the colonist and early settlers who moved thru here and went west. Do you have any names and dates?

Norton Family - NY MI

Thanks for answering so quickly Barbara.
This is a real brick wall. Only a few clues.
Sallie Norton married Joseph Lake. She was
probably born after 1794, in VT? Daughter
Olive M. Lake b. 3/22/1818 in German Twp.,
Chenango Twp., NY. Married Silas Parker.
Son Hyman Parker Born 3/15/1818, NY. He
married Ann Elizabeth White, b. Jan. 8, 1841.
Her parents were Jesse White and Millie Norton
Ann Elizabeth born German Twp., Millie born
NY(?) probably before 1823. No info on parents
of Sallie or Millie Norton. Date range suggests
they 'may' have been aunt and niece? All
these families had moved on to Cass/Carrien
Co., MI by the early 1850's. Some related
Nortons and Parkers 'may' have gone on to IN.

in German Twp., NY when their children were
born.

Hello. I too am researching the Norton's. My research has taken me to Ontario County, NY about 1814-1850, Kent Co.and Ionia Co. Michigan, 1830-1890's. Also found relatives to this Clan in Oakland Co., MI, Montcalm Co., MI. Right now researching a John Norton, born most likely in NH or Mass in the late 1790's.

Our Sallie Norton b. c. 1795 (?). and Millie Norton b. c. 1822 probably NY
may have been aunt and niece. Sally married Joseph Lake and they lived in
Chenango Co., NY. Millie Norton married Jesse White and their daughter
Ann Elizabeth was born in German Twp., Chenango Co., NY. Both these
families went on to Cass and Berrien Co. MI in the 1850's.

I guess there were many, many Norton families in the area.

Thanks, Lori London

Lori, I have a Great Great Grandfather who fought in the Civil War in 1862. I have not found any information on him concerning family, other than one son. His records show him enlisting from a place that no longer exists called Cooper (between Dexter and Chelsea). Then settling in Stockbridge, MI after the War, where he is buried with his wife (no name). Please feek free to contact me if this is a possible lineage.
