My William Norton (may have middle name Henry, or may have gone by the name Henry) b. ca 1820, m. Lydia Swansbrough, dau. of William and Mary Ann Swansbrough, They are in the census in 1860 with daughters Henrietta and Mary, then he disappears. Did he die in the Civil War? To make matters worse, there were at least two or three William Nortons in Tompkins Co. His daughter, Henrietta, m. Oswin Isaiah Bacon. They lived in Ithaca, then maybe Alpine, then moved to Painted Post, in Steuben Co. Mary m. Orsemus Thompson, and also moved to Painted Post. Any of this sound familiar? Oswin and Henrietta had several children, Emma and Jenny dy, Adeline m. Judd Darrin, lived in PA, Florence m. Frank N. Cutler, lived in Corning and Painted Post, Freeman m. 1 Edna Carley, 2. Gertrude? , Henrietta m. Fred Beauter, lived in Painted Post.

Would love to exchange info with anyone connected to these people.

Thanks.

Norton

I read you inquiry and my family is also looking for the Nortons in Ithaca, NY. Our info is ralated to finding a Harold Watson Norton. His mother and father were Mary {Swan} Norton and Edward C. Norton. He {Harold} was born around 1993 or 94. He had a sister named Clara. Edward, his father had a brother by the name of Ferrand. I know none of these names are in you note, however being in the same location, there might be a tie to it somewhere that we could maybe connect the dots. Thanks for your time. Jan

Jan,

I have a lot of notes I've taken on Nortons in the area. I usually write down anyone in the right place with the right surname, in case I later find a connection, so I may have something on your relatives. I assume you meant he was born in 1893, not 1993....
I'll try to get a chance in the next few days to look over my notes and let you know.

Pat

I'm working on the Swansbrough's in New York State.

Maybe we can exchange some data.

I do not have anything else on your Norton's yet.

I also found those three William Norton's and did not think they were the right ones.

Even his wife and children disappeared so he may have moved out of New York State instead of dying in the Civil War.

Fran,

My William Norton's wife and children didn't disappear. I have death certificates for one daughter, my great-grandmother, Henrietta. E-mail me at patmc@erinet.com and I'll give you more info on them.

Pat
