Mrs. Frances Eudora Nye - Marietta, Ohio

Died: In Chicago, Illinois, June 1st, (1866) at the residence of Major Shelton Sturges, Mrs. Frances Eudora Nye, aged 35 years.
Mrs. Nye was born at Key West, Florida, May 6th, 1831. She came to Marietta (Ohio) about 18 years ago and was a pupil in the school of Rev. Mr. Tolford.
In 1851, she married William S. Nye, Esq., who died nearly four years ago, deeply mourned by a large circle of friends and possessed of the esteem of all who knew him.
At school and in the wider circle of friends which she entered after her marriage, she won the love of all and retained it with increasing affection till the last.
She was a woman of fine intellect and unusual culture, gentle, unassuming, energetic and yet so delicate that no one felt that a rough breath should be permitted to blow upon her. From the shock occasioned by her husband’s death, she never recovered and from his loss she may be said perhaps to have pined herself away, into the grave.
Her funeral was attended by a large circle of friends at St. Luke’s Church, in this city, last Sunday afternoon and she was interred in Oak Grove Cemetery, beside the remains of her husband, which had been removed from the Mound Cemetery on the day before her death. A handsome marble _____ [illegible], an obelisk, marks their resting place. [Memorial poem follows.]

Marietta Register Thursday, Jun 7, 1866
Marietta, Ohio

Not sure if we're talking about the same folks...there are so many Ney, Ney, Neu families here!

I have record of John Henry Ney (born in PA), son of
Samuel LeRoy Nye (born in PA), son of
Johann Nicholas Nye (Germany), son of
Johann Adam Ney (Germany), son of
Johann JP Neu (Germany)

Some variations also have Johan or John. Any of that lineage match your record?

This would be a really long shot bump.. Are any of you who were in the original discussion still around? Adam (Catherine) would be my 3g grandfather.. I would really love to swap information.. my grandma nye is still alive (98years) so I'm trying as best as I can to pull things together.. It pretty much looks like this.. me-->Harry-->Harry-->Loren-->Charles-->Adam---Adam Where I am stuck is finding hard evidence of Charles.. I have a letter from L Bert Nye to my Grandpa Harry in 1978 with a lot of detail but I'm trying to back it up with artifacts now in the internet age to settle the question of English or German..

Looking for information on George F. Nye, born 1828 Ohio, married to Lucinda Hilborn, living in the state of Kansas. Although long time residents of Wyandot County, Ohio, 1885 Kansas state census shows family relocated to that state. It appears Lucinda died sometime between 1885 and 1889, George f. remarried for a 3rd time, and lives in Fort Scott, KS in 1900. Information showing this George died in 1896 and is buried in Spring Grove Cemetery appears to be incorrect.

FAMILY TREE DNA Christmas Sale

Our Nye/Nigh/Neu DNA Project needs more participants to verify the family lineages published in L. Bert Nye's concerning English and German Neu/Nye/Nigh/Neigh families (and alternate spellings).

The Y-DNA 67 marker test (on sale at $199) or better is recommended for males of direct Neu/Nye/Nigh/Neigh male to male ancestry, including alternate spellings.

To view reduced sales prices and to order at the sales prices, order through the EMERSON AMERSON AMASON DNA Project:
http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=Nye
SALE ENDS December 31, 2011.

The newest addition to Family Tree DNA's kits is the Family Finder test, which can identify cousins as distant as 6 generations, for MALES or FEMALES.

Males, who have NOT been previously tested, should order the Y-DNA kit at 67 markers or better, to test within their surname. Those males who have previously tested at 37 markers or less should order the upgrade kits to 67 markers or 111 markers.

Females and males can order the mtDNA kits. Results of mtDNA testing reflect ONLY female ancestry.

Jabez Nye of Wareham, Mass

Does anyone know the parentage of Jabez Nye of Wareham who married Molly Fuller 18 Feb 1768? His family appears in the census records for Wareham in the years of 1790, 1800, and 1810. He was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. Many have confused him with the Jabez Nye who married Temperance Crocker and is buried in the Cedarville cemetery in East Sandwich, but I believe they are two separate individuals.

I've just started my family research and hope that there are some of the Nye relatives still online. My great great grandfather is Richard Nye. He and his second wife, Catherine Currie, had Sarah, who is my great grandmother. She married James Reeves. Edward Nye married Mary Reeves (brother and sister married brother and sister). If Kim is still online, I have a couple pictures of Edna Paton and her sons Mack and Jack. Are they your relatives? I'm happy to share more information with anyone and would love to find out about your research.
NYE-NIGH Y-DNA Project at Family Tree DNA

The Nigh/Nye Y-DNA Project needs participants. Best candidate to participate in a Y-DNA project must be a male (the older the better), with surname Nigh, Nye, Neu, or other spelling variable of the surname, with an unbroken father to son, MALE ancestral line.

Anyone can buy a Y-DNA kit for any male relative who would be willing to supply several inner cheek brushings (NO BLOOD). Donations are also welcome to buy kits for those who wish to participate, but whose income is limited.

The 67 Y-DNA marker kit ($238 + nominal shipping) or the 111 Y-DNA marker kit ($339 + nominal shipping) is recommended for this project. These special prices are available when the kit is ordered through the Nye-Nigh Y-DNA Project at Family Tree DNA.

Once there are enough participants, evaluations and results from either the 67 or 111 Y-DNA marker kit should establish and/or confirm descent from German or English lines, and possibly differentiate between the descendants of different ancestral lines detailed in the Nye lineage books published by L. Bert Nye.

Nye-Nigh Y-DNA Project ordering page: http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=Nye

I am not at present an Administrator for the Nye/Nigh Project, but do administer another surname project, and will be happy to try to answer any questions. The surname project I administer has been highly successful at confirming research on the project surnames, and in some cases surprising us! DNA is the way to prove or disprove surname lineages established by research alone.
S. Nigh
**I can be contacted directly through an e-mail link (near bottom of page) at the AMASON * AMERSON Family Website at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~amasonamer...

Nye, Lena Mildred and sister Charlotte Marie, Topeka, KS area 1918

The girls were removed from their mother (alcoholism) approx May 31, 1918 and placed in Topeka Children's Home. Father had disappeared suddenly prior but not know if he died or a divorce or what. Charlotte adopted first by unknown. Lena Mildred adopted Nov 1919 by a Mary E Gregory of Morris County,KS. Lena was taken in about three years later by a Ms. Viola Miller, a teacher in Cloud County, KS. Father of the girls may have been a Charles A or Clarence Nye, but not known for sure. Both girls were born in Kansas, we think, per Lena Mildred's memory. Any help greatly appreciated in finding out who their biological parents were. Topeka records apparently lost or misplaced over the years.

Hello.
I know you posted a long time ago. I am also a descendent of John Adam Crobarger Nye. He had three wives. The first was reportedly Elizabeth Hollinbeck. I have no records to support this, I've just seen it on others' pedigrees. After she died he married Dorcas Armilda McFarland (my great, great, great grandmother) and then after she passed away Mary Linn Almy.

Do you have any documentation for Elizabeth Hollinbeck?

Does anyone know the parentage of Jabez Nye of Wareham who married Molly Fuller 18 Feb 1768? His family appears in the census records for Wareham in the years of 1790, 1800, and 1810. He was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. Many have confused him with the Jabez Nye who married Temperance Crocker and is buried in the Cedarville cemetery in East Sandwich, but I believe they are two separate individuals.

We believe his son came to Wapello Co. IA and purchased property there. Both these individuals are listed from Leistadt, Bayern, Germany. (Our info. is Bavaria) Perhaps the same place? In the book "The History of Wapello Co" William is listed as being from Bavaria.

Re: Nye & Lemasters of MO. IA

I don't know that this will be any help to you but my husband's great-grandfather was George Louis Nye (1845-1922) of Agency, IA and was postmaster there. However, from what I have been able to learn he was about 1st generation. His father was William A. born in Bayern, Germany (or in the Wappelo County book of history, Bavaria)(1824-1894). Ancestry lead me to a George Ludwig (1766-1834)n who was born in the same place in Germany but died in Waverly, Pike, Ohio. I have not confirmed that Geo. Ludwig is the father of William. Since the name George has been carried forward I would think there is a good chance he is the father. I do not know where they may have entered the country.

David Nye of Hampden, Maine about 1850

I'm trying to fill in some holes. David and wife Sarah H are listed in 1850 and 1860 US Census in Hampden, Penobscot, ME. Children are: William DF, George A, Mark T, Hariot M, Mary JB, and Benjamin C. Also listed in the household is Jemima Nye age 73. In both 1850 and 1860 David is listed as 55 years old meaning he was born about 1795 or 1805. Can someone enlighten me as to his full parentage as well as Sarah's parents? Thank you.
