Hi. This may be a red herring. but my grandmother's great friend in the 1920s was Edith (Edie) Ochiltree. I don't know if Edie came from Walthamstow, but my grandma came from Richmond or Mortlake in Surrey. Her name was Daisy Nappin, or married name Davey.

I am trying to find information on the Globes side of the family.

My grandma's parents were

Edward C. Globes
born 6 Dec 1883 in Wilton Junction, Iowa
died 13 Oct 1956 in Artesia, California

I only know that Esther's father's name was George Globes.

I have a family picture of George, his wife, and Esther.

Do you have any information on Globes side of the family?

Wikipedia has an extensive article of Michael Ouchtred Ochiltree, Bishop of Dunblane Cathedral. I emailed the current pastor of that church and he advised me that most records from 1442 had been stored or lost in a transition of that old cathedral but that he would continue to look for any information.

Our Ochiltrees were born in Ayrshire Scotland, not Ochiltree Scotland and we were not Irish. I believe the Irish family may be cousins. Isaac Ochiltree is my ggg father...

Can't help with your question but I've always been fascinated by the "other" Clifford J from St Louis.

My father, Clifford J OCHELTREE, was born in St Louis in 1926. There are so few Clifford's with either spelling, OCHELTREE or OCHILTREE, that it's quite quite surprising to see two born in the same place within such a short period of time.

That is just why we are referred to as ::::

Ulster Scots.....because the little guys in Scotland were sent to Northern Ireland to settle the frontier for 300 years.

Then they returned to Scotland around the time of the Battle of Culloden, after that ended, all armorial bearings were stripped from we little folk by the big barons, who took all the worldly goods and lands so they could raise sheep...then the little folk were stuffed into ships and sent to America and Australia as WHITE SLAVES, indentured to anyone who would have us....

Go on line and search for White Slavery Britain and you will be surprised how we white slaves were treated...

And as said before, we are SCOTs and not Scotch....
Thanks..
Lu

Hi Wilbur. Do you have any other names associated with your line.? I have been working for the last 3 years, including two trips to Ireland and Scotland, trying to accumulate a list of all the "Irish" Ochiltrees. The purpose is trying to get someone off and on a boat. It seems as though every other one is named David, Matthew or Michael so I am not having a lot of luck. I have accumulated quite a list however.

It is believe by most that we OGLETREES were originally OCHILTREES. Just when the change took place however has not been determined. In fact I have found an OGLETREE in Ireland in 1625 and a whole colony of them in Ireland in 1780. The latter bunch all migrated to Canada in about 1805 so cannot connect to them.

Appreciate any names you can provide.

Dan

Hi Barbara,
Well, many years ago I came across information which showed that a branch of the Stewart (Stuart?) Family was Created the first Baron Ochiltree. (Seems to be two different families of Ochiltree, entirely different, I suspect. The other coming from Ochiltree County in Scotland). This Baron Ochiltree and his branch somehow had to leave Scotland cause of peculinary (spelling?) embarassment and went to Ireland where they sort of started that religious problem there, or so it read. My great grand father David Ochiltree came to South Carolina from Ireland. Male names common to this branch are ie... David, Robert, Andrew, Walter, Wilbur, Dewitt..those are the main ones that come to mind. Im 52 now so my Great Grandfather came over in a fair guess, mind you, around 1910 or so. He was a shoemaker in Ireland and brought his profession with him here, he resided in Spartanburg SC. Hope this helps.

If you go to www.electricscotland.com and type in the name Alexander Ochiltree it may give you some help in some Ochiltrees who saied to America. My ancester was Alexander who came to America from Scotland. I have seen where some have settled in N.C. but spelled their names Ogletree.

Roxann

That theory has not been proven by anyone yet. In fact other researchers have discussed this and have pretty much ruled it out.

Dan - have you come across any Merry/Merries in Ochiltree? I need John Merrie (later Merry) who married Margaret Smith on 11/4/1831 Ochiltree. He was born 1810-1811. His father was also John who married Janet Wallace on 7/17/1794 there. Any information onthem or any other family member is helpful.

Stewart/Ochiltree and Scotland/Ireland

Barbara I can help you solve a part of the discrepancies. I have spent many years researching and personnally copied more than 250 Ochiltree births and marriages in Scotland. Some of it you will have to take sides and believe what you want to - naturally most want to believe that we are royal.

First lets talk about Ayrshire. There is a little town there called Ochiltree and yes there was a Lord Ochiltree. He was actually a Stewart that adopted the name as a title, repeat title. The preposition was dropped and the Lord of Ochiltree became Lord Ochiltree. The surname Ochiltree was in use for many years before any Stewart adopted it in his title.

Now for Northern Ireland. Many Scotsmen settled in Northern Ireland before coming on to the colonies. It resulted in the coining of the incorrect phrase "Scotch-Irish". Scotch is a whiskey and Scot is a person. However it came into general use and stuck.

Mathew, Michael and possibly Alexander were born in Northern Ireland and their name was Ochiltree and their father was named Ochiltree. The did not, repeat did not, change their name from Stewart to Ochiltree on the way over on a ship for fear of their life. This is a made up tale. I personally copied the birth information on Mathew and Michael from the records office in Edinburgh.
I could not find Alexander.

Now you may take sides. I will be the first to admit that the only ones who agree with me are the Scots. I would only ask that when you post use only factual information or identify it as an opinion and do no "make up" tales to post.

Happy hunting!!!!

Sorry Barbara. It is Latter Day Saints. Their mission is to photostate every birth and marriage record in existence. I do not know what their percentage of completion is but man they are everywhere. They also have this huge library in Salt Lake City which can be accessed. I can not explain it but it has to do with the Morman religion.

Ok here we go. FTM is Family Tree Maker and I probably used it loosely. The actual site is genforum.genealogy.com

Here is an example of what you will run into on there. One lady told be recently that she has my line but cannot share it because she is afraid that I might try and use it to claim the throne. I am not kidding!!!!!! This lady is serious and posts on their all the time.

I forgot to mention that a herd of Ogletrees (my spelling) was found in Atrim, Northern Ireland. This is very rare. We all believe that we were all originally Ochiltrees but just cannot find out when the switch was made. This bunch mostly wound up in Canada.

Please do not think this is a bother. The sharing of information is how we will one day lick this thing. My Email addressees are dano3126@aol.com and ogletred@spawar.navy.mil
