Linda: I cannot believe how many Charlotte Oliphants there were in the 1850s in the East. My Charlotte's parents were Mary Lippincott Fort and Walter H. Oliphant, Burlington Co., NJ. They were a collateral line of mine. Mary Oliphant was my Great grandmother's sister. Their parents were Andrew H. and Hannah Ann Brown Fort.

I don't believe we are connected. I'm sorry. Always looking for new relatives!!! Vicki

Charlott married Samuel Murphy from the Hillsville, PA area and one of their children, Addaline, married Marvin Austin Spitler my gr. grandfather.

Hi my name is Linda Ference. Charlott Oliphant married Samuel Murphy my gr. gr. grandfather in the Hillsville, PA area. I havse never seen a picture of her and would be very interested if it is her. Samuel fought in the Civil War and my gr. aunt said he was killed when stone from the quarries exploded and hit him in the head. He died in 1898. Their daughter Addaline married Marvin Spitler my gr. grandfather.

I am interested in this family as well. I believe that Susann(ah) Howell Oliphant was a sister to my 3g grandfather, Aaron Howell. It is possible she was a cousin. Other siblings or cousins include Joseph Howell, Elizabeth Howell Brentlinger.
I have odds and ends of information regarding Perry Oliphant and family...could we share/compare notes?
Nancie Howell Willey
It has been a few years since I was actively researching this family, and though I have a fair bit of info, my Oliphant research is in my basement, which is under renovation, so it may take a few days to get back to you, but I greatly appreciate your information on Mary Swan. I did not have her parents' names. Thanks for that. I will be in touch.

Best wishes

Norm

Oliphant: Kirkcaldy Graveyard monument inscription request

Hello; My family of Oliphants comes from Kirkcaldy Fife. I would be interested in any transcriptions or digital photographs of graves of Oliphants in Kirkcaldy that you can find. The mystery in my family is a Mary Swan Oliphant who was married to David Oliphant in Kirkcaldy in about 1878. I have not been able to find any birth record for a Mary Swan in Scotland to match this woman. Perhaps her gravestone would have a birthdate? Any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated, and I would be happy to return the favour with any lookups on Ancestry.com ( I have access to almost everything on their website).

Thanks

Norm Dawson
Calgary AB
Canada

Hi there,

I have also been researching that family line. I'm descended from one of the children of Thomas Oliphant and Janet Arnot. I haven't been able to link the family to the Oliphants of Gask, but I have found a few things you might find interesting.

I also have a copy of Margaret Arnot's testament, if you would like a copy.

Please reply to me by private message,

Look forward to hearing from you,

Tunji Lees

I have a Roy Oliphant as the son of Leonard R. Oliphant and Margie Jones. Leonard R. Oliphant was originally from Dickson County, TN but moved to Georgia with his family and to my knowledge, died there. Leonard was in WWI. His parents were Silas Tucker Oliphant and Alice Serena Hall. I have a picture of Silas and Alice's headstone (Hall Cemetery, Burns TN) and also a short biography Silas wrote about him and his family. Silas is my 3rd great grandfather, however, I am not a direct descendent of Roy Oliphant. I am a descendent of his sister Maggie Oliphant who is also buried in Hall Cemetery in Burns, TN.

I have somewhat limited information on this family line but would be happy to share anything I do have. I am not even 100% sure this is the same Roy Oliphant as in my family line. But from a census record, I have my Roy's birthdate as being about 1911, so these could match.

Would love to hear from anyone regarding this line!

Jenny Pafford

jennifer.b.pafford@vanderbilt.edu

This is very helpful, thanks. And so amazing that your family still occupies the land! I am going to keep searching/asking to see if I can get some documented support on my Robert, although it looks almost certain that the Robert b. 1835 is ours.
I think you are correct. Just today I have found some information on the internet that shows Robert J. Oliphant 19 Feb 1835 to 04 Jan 1865 as brother of Wilford son of Wilford D. Oliphant (1801-1853). I do not have any way of corroborating this information but one source is a distant relative in MS who has been researching family topics as well.

That said then your Robert J. is son of Wilford D. Oliphant. I have seen the "D" as David and also as Davenport. Wilford D. Oliphant was sone of Robert Oliphant b. 1771 Rowan Co., NC d. 1841 Sabine Co., TX.

Robert (1771) was married to Abigail Davenport of South Carolina....so maybe D was a Davenport. Not sure.

I'll send you and invite to my tree that shows a little better. I'd be interested in learning more about your family and filling in the other parts of the family.

You're right; too many Roberts and Wilfords. What I know for sure in my ggrandfather was Wilford, and my grandmother and father told me his father's name was Robert, which the records seem to indicate. Maybe your Wilford had a brother named Robert, since the dates are so close.

Part of the confusion maybe that there is a Robert Oliphant b. 1771 Rowan NC d. 1841 in St. Augistine, TX who had a son Wilford D. Oliphant b. 1801 South Carolina d. 1853 Sabine, TX. This Wilford also had a son named plainly (as far as I know) Wilford Oliphant b. 1841 Sabine, TX and d. 1918 in Meridian MS. This last Wilford is my great great grandfather. He settled in Leake Co. MS after the civil war. My Dad still live on the farm that Wilford bought in the 1860s. I do not know if this ties in but the names are very similar as is the location.

I'm at eboliphant@yahoo.com
