Hi Melissa, I am Andrew Rodriguez, my Great Grandmother was Francesca Olivas, sister to your Grandmother. Francesca married Juan Andres Rodriguez from Northern New Mexcio. There are many cousins still in Denver and New Mexico from the Olivas line. I'm Melissa Cordova Visnic. My grandmother, Aurelia Olivas was married to Joseph Cordova (around 1913). I never met my grandmother and also do not have much information about the Olivas side. I'd love to hear more about the information available and the photos you have.

My grandmother was Beneranda's younger sister, Aurelia. I remember meeting Beneranda (Aunt Bennie) when I was young. I never met my grandmother and knew very little about her family and would appreciate anything I can find out. I have a few photos of her in my family tree that I'm happy to share and would love to find more.

Antonio Olivas
Resident of Burlingame
Tony was born June 8, 1920 in Santa Rosa, NM. His father was Cipriano Olivas and his mother was Mary Sena Olivas. His father died when Tony was a toddler. His mother died in January of 1969. Tony is survived by two sisters, Ophelia Smith and Maria Woodruff; a nephew, Joseph Olivas and other relatives and friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Tony graduated from high school in Raton, NM in 1941. He missed his graduation ceremony because he joined the Navy and went to San Diego for boot camp. He was on board the carrier Lexington in the battle of the Coral Sea. The Japanese sank the carrier, and he was a survivor.
After WWII was over, he returned to New Mexico for a time and later moved to Burlingame where he worked at United Airlines for 36 years as a mechanic. Tony was a devout Catholic and a active parishioner at Our Lady of Angels Church in Burlingame.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass, Wednesday, January 4, 2012, 2:00 PM at Our Lady of Angels Church, 1721 Hillside Dr. in Burlingame. In his memory, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Catholic Worker or a Catholic charity of your choice .

My father is Manuel Olivas, son of Andres Olivas and Maria Quezada. My father was born in Juarez Mexico in 1922...father of 9. Rosamaria, Jose Guadalupe, Bertha Alicia were from his 1st marrige to Rosalia, I believe. SHe passed away and later on married Antonia Hernandez (Olivas now) and had sons Manuel Jr. Heriberto, Andres, Raul, Angel and me.

i am interested in knowing what family information you have. my great grandfather may have been an Olivas, but his name was shown as Olivos. US employees recording may have changed one of their last names. i believe all of this family was related and all from Chihuhua. my great grandfather's name as we knew it was Hilario Olivos he was born in 1884, and had a other siblings but we don't know about them maybe his mother had many sisters and brothers. we don't know his mothers name, maybe concepcion or asenscion, they called her Chonita, but i am guessing it was a nickname. her last name was Olivos and she gave that name to my great grandfather. his fathers name was said to be Martinez. we only knew of the Arambula family which was related and lived in Mexicali and Calexico. Family moved to Durango after Chihuhua. the only sibling we knew was his half sister Angelita Villegas because he brought her and her daughter to California where they all lived very long lives and died. i look forward to hearing from you and sharing family information. Hi my surname is Olivos which i believe was changed from Olivas. i trace back to the 1600 to 1700's the Olivas name to Chihuhua MX, major town or territory of Coahuila, Jalisco & Durango. i show our ancestors traveled up and across many times to cross the US Borders, and always came back home to Mexico probably for elderly family. i also have Jaramillo on my dads other side of family. funny thing is we have 3 Jaramillos that married into the Olivos family. i have not yet traced the Jaramillo Family into Mexico. i do have proof of lines into the 1800's, and data that leads back into the 1700's based on the other data of actual know relatives. my email address is: mercydo@gmail.com and phone number is: 562-676-7231 i go by my middle name Mercy, my married last name is Do pronounced (dough) i also have family who are going to give me documents on the Jaramillo's, my grandmother was a Jaramillo born in New Mexico either her parents or grandparents were born in Mexico.

juan is my 4th great grandfather [b:1756 in rosario d:1 dec. 1806 in los angeles] he came to california as part of the rivera expedition in 1781 with his first family. he was in the miltary, but not of a high rank. i am not sure of his mother or father. i think his father name was jose matos b:1729 and his mother was maria c. rocha b:1730. he was also of indian desent. i am curious as to how our family ended up with the surname olivas. one of his sons was raimundo olivas[1801-1879] of the olivas adobe in ventura, ca. thanks for any extra info.

Hello i was told my great grandmother was married to a olivas. her name was francesca. I believe i if i heard my grandmother jauna, francescas daughter that the father was benicio, or a benificio olivas. our family lives in txs, kansas, arizona, ca and las angeles that i know of so far. and that we are possibly have apache indian in us. my mom or her great great uncle name is red feather.

Alfredo Olivas, age 88, Long time resident of Sun Valley, Nevada passed away on April 20, 2010. He was born in Coyote, New Mexico. He retired from the Railroad in Herlong, CA. Preceded in death by his wife Magdalena. Survived by 8 children, Betty Favila (Juan), Evey Romero (Gilbert), Roque Olivas (Linda), Angelina Romer, Mary Ann Martinez (Sevedeo), Connie Olivas, Kim Olivas and Abran Olivas. Also numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
A Viewing and Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 24th at Ross, Burke & Knobel Mortuary, 2155 Kietzke Lane, Reno, NV. Viewing - 3:00 PM - 5 p.m. Service 5 pm.

The Manuel Olivas I've been doing research on had a father named Jesus and a mother named Jacinta. Yes, my research of the Olivas family did include Senovia Olivas and Jacinto Ocon. However, I was intending to follow the lineage of another Maria Senovia (Senobia) Olivas, a daughter born 1839 to Blas Olivas and Maria Santos Campos. This Senovia married Jose Macias.

I also looked at Jacinto Ocon as a possible link to Maria Ramona Ocon who married Luis Torres, which is a whole different branch of my family tree. I may have ran into possibly the same dead end as you, concerning Jacinto Ocon. I was unable to confirm his birth parents.

In my research I have that Jacinto and Cenovia married Sept 8, 1876 in San Bartolme of Valle de Allende, Chih. I also identified some of the children born to your Senovia and Jacinto Ocon from 1879 to abt 1888. Which I would be happy to forward you, if you don't have this information.

In closing, don't give up your search, I'm almost certain that the information you seek is the records of Sta Cruz de Rosales or Valle de Allende, Chihuahua. There may still be a tie within our respective families. Good Luck on your search.

I have recently found a Senvia Olivas in my tree. She was married to Jacinto Ocon in 1847 and I believe they originated from Chihuahua. I know that by 1900 they had moved to San Antonio. I was wondering if maybe you might have stumbled across her name in your research or maybe even in your tree. Any info would be great seeing as I have hit a dead end with these two. Thanks Tiffany

My name is Wayne Andrews and my wife is Linda Contreras from Marfa. Her Dad was Manuel Contreras. I am researching the family hsitory and came across Olivas in two areas.
Linda had a cousin Otilia Contreas who married Jose Olivas,Sr.
They had four children: Lucita, Ricardo, Jose (Joe), Imelda and David. Ring any bells???
Manuel Contreras had an Uncle named Ferman Contreras who married Cecilia Salazar. Cecilia had two sons Jose Olivas (1887) and Hilario (1890) which Ferman raised as his own. This family moved to Los Angeles around 1930. Ring any bells???

My great grandfather was Rogaciano Olivas of Tornillo and Fabens TX lived in early 1900 and passed away in late 1920's. He had 7-8 brothers & sisters maybe a few more, some of the names were Carlos, Guadalupe, Delfino, Romona and Jesus and others, all now passed away. Rogaciano had only one child, my father Jess J.Olivas born in Fabens TX

My Great-grandfather was Jesus De la luz Olivas (Rogaciano's father) and he married Cruz Estrada.

Im an Olivas that used to live in El Paso TX up until 2000. I have uncles and cousins that still live there one is named Rodolfo Olivas and Leopoldo Olivas. My mothers name is Cecilia Olivas. She was raised by her grandparents in El Paso their names were Maria De Los Angeles Olivas and Eusebio Olivas. I have heard that we have family in California such as an aunt named Leticia Olivas who has two kids a boy and a girl. My greatgrandparents were from Chihuahua and had a home there which is occupied by two of their sons.

I have a little more information now. My tia Rosalia Olivas was married to a man with the last name Miranda. They actually lived in Mendota, California, not Fresno. My father Miguel Sanz, but went by Miguel Olivas when he married my mother and would be about 75-80 years old right now. I have not seen him since I was 5 years old. His Brother was/is Jesse Sanz. He might also go by Olivas, I'm not sure.

He met my mother, Susana Romero Lopez, who is from a town called Oceano, California in about 1949/50. My grandfather's name was Refugio Lopez.

I hope someone can help me find relatives on my father's side.

My name is Carlos Yañez. This is my family. I searched through Iglesia San Pablo records from the early 1800's to 1930. To date I have accumulated 468 names. Here I will share the first 3 generations. Beginning with with Eduardo and Filomena. Both are from the area of San Juan, Balleza, Chihuahua, Mexico. Both were deceased by 1948. They had seven children. Francisco b.1825, Encarnacion b.1826, Trinidad b.1828, Dolores b.1832, Santiago b.1834, Sebastiana b.1834, Maria Trinidad b.1842.

Francisco married Maria de Jesus Ribas b.1830-d.1849 (parents were Sariaco Ribas and Maria de Jesus del Bal) They had one child Maria Josefa de Jesus b.1849

Francisco remarried in 1850 to Maria del Carmen Gil b. 1834 (parents were Francisco Gil and Juana Ruiz Orosco) They had four children. Jose Matildes Habran de Jesus b.1851, Cleofes Sipariana b.1852, Maria Salome b.1855, and Jose Juan Patricio b.1856.

Encarnacion married Maria Cleofas del Bal in 1846. (parents were Miguel del Bal and Ramona Loya) The had three children. Maria de los Angeles b.1847, Jose Dolores Senon b.1849 and Jose Paulino Suciano Dolores b.1851.

Trinidad married Lino Caballero in 1844 (Parents were Francisco Caballero and Guadalupe Sanchez)

Dolores married Jose Onofre Yañez in 1851 (Parents were Jose Maria Yañez and Maria Josefa Saens) They had 9 children. Maria Lasara Graciana b. 1851, Maria Eugenia Gertrudis Dolores b.1853, Andrea Benigna Ramona b.1856, Jose Onofre Ladislao b.1858, Altagracia b.1864, Flavia b.1867, Maria Paula Josefa b.1874, Jose and Jesus.

Santiago married Maria Juana Antonia del Bal in 1854 (parents were Manuel del Bal and Maria Feliciana Loya) They had one child Jose Yngacio de los Angeles del Refugio b. 1858.

Sebastiana married Teodoro Peres in 1854. (parents were Trinidad Peres and Maria de la Luz Sepulveda) They had one child. Maria Germana Teodosia del Refugio b.1859.

Maria Trinidad married Pedro del Bal in 1858. (parents were Sebastian del Bal and Maria Josefa Loya)

Celia (Prieto) Olivas was born to Jose and Celia Prieto on Feb. 12, 1943 in Chihuahua, Mexico.

On Jan. 5, 2007, the beloved Moses Lake citizen died in a car accident on Highway 6, south of Salt Lake City, Utah.

Celia was married to Hector Olivas on Jan. 30, 1965, in Mexico. Shortly thereafter, she and her husband moved to the Columbia Basin, where he worked in agriculture and she worked as a housewife. Gifted at childcare, she raised eight children of her own and made a living as a childcare provider. She baby-sat dozens of Columbia Basin children over 15 years old.

Celia was a talented gardener, an admired cook, and a tireless seamstress. She sewed many formal gowns and bridesmaids' dresses, and patched the knees of countless farmers' jeans. She joined the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in 1976. Until her death, she was a very active member, particularly at the Spanish-speaking church in Othello.

For all her devotion to her church and for all her integrity and hard work in childcare for local children, she will be greatly missed by her community. For her unending love as a wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, and aunt she will be greatly missed by her family.

She is survived by her husband, Hector Olivas; daughters Yolanda Castillo, Gracie Lauffer, Susie Chavez, Cecilia Ramos, Jacqui Swartz, and Joanna Olivas; son Ubaldo Olivas; grandsons Marcus and Matthew Castillo and Isaiah Ramos; granddaughters Denise Ramos and Alyssa and Olivia Lauffer; sisters Maria Ortiz and Amparo Ponce; and brothers Rodolfo and Jose Prieto.

She is preceded in death by son David Olivas.

The wake will be held on Friday, Jan. 12, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Kayser's Chapel of Memories. The memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 13, at 3 p.m. at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 736 East Elm Street, Othello.
