Charles Olive married Rosina Channell (Jan, Feb, Mar) in Southampton 1907.
In the 1911 census My Great Grandparents (Arthur and ELizabeth McLennan, my Grandmother Mabel McLennan and my great Aunt Bess (Elizabeth McLennan) lived at 43 College Street, Southampton. On their 1911 census return I noticed that the number of rooms in the house was written as 6 rooms. But the 6 had been crossed out to show that the family only had 4 of those rooms.
Rosina Olive is listed seperately at 43 College Street, living alone and she had 2 rooms. She had been married to Charles Olive for 4 years and had a child but it had died. I found her birth record as Rosina Channell born (Oct, Nov, Dec) 1884 Southampton.

Hello,
I have only just seen your message and hoping that you are still a member.
As far as I know Charles Olive is not in my family tree but he does his residence address given as he went to work on the Titanic is given as 43 College Street Southampton.
This is the address of my great grandparents Arthur and Elizabeth McLennan who remianed there until they both passed away in 1936. Their daughter Mabel was my grandmother.
I am very curious to know more about your Charles Olive and his family. He doesn't appear on the 1911 census to be living at 43 College Street, Southampton. I am presuming he was a lodger or possibly a cousin.
My grandmother always talked about cousins who sailed on the Titanic but we have never found out who they were. Her parents families have been hard to trace especially her mother's. Family names we know of - Adams, Jarvis, Channon, McLennan, Goodyear, Sobey and possibly Pascoe.
I hope to hear from you.

ROBERT OLIVE(R) of Maury Co, TN (d. by 1843)

Hoping for any information on a ROBERT OLIVE, died by 1843, probably in Maury County, TN. This is, probably, ROBERT OLIVER.

Maury County Wills and Inventories, Book Z, page 562: Estate of ROBERT OLIVE: executors, S. W. Fitzpatrick and Hiram Anthony; division of estate noted by Joseph Herndon, chairman of the court, 8 Oct 1843. The following persons had received their shares of the Olive estate: Morgan Fitzpatrick, John Fitzpatrick, Hiram Anthony, JOHN PILLOW, Thomas Baity. Also having received shares were the heirs of Andrew Fitzpatrick, Benjamin F., Sarah D., and Celia S. Fitzpatrick. Signed 27 Oct 1843.

Note: John and Morgan Fitzpatrick were brothers, and their sister was Mary Fitzpatrick who married John Pillow. Andrew Fitzpatrick was another brother of John, Morgan and Mary, but had died by 1822, leaving children, Benjamin and Sarah, and Celia seems to have been his widow. Hiram Anthony was married to Lois Fitzpatrick, Morgan Fitzpatrick's daughter. S.W. was Samuel Washington Fitzpatrick, a son of Morgan Fitzpatrick.

So we understand the relationships of all of the heirs except Thomas Baity. But we do not know who ROBERT OLIVE was, nor his relationship to them!

Any help greatly appreciated.

Virginia S. Mylius
My name is James Olive, NY, but we have discovered documentation that my grand parents were married "at home" in Birmingham, Alabama in 1902. I have obtained a copy of their marriage cert but it did not offer any helpful information. It would seem that my grand father and his brother and sister (Edgar Alston, Otto Percy & Myra) came to NYC from Alabama in the late 1800s, for he was born in 1881. I am searching for any information that might help connect the family ties. I can be reached at olivesnest@ yahoo.com

Marvel (Marville?) Mattison Olive and Zepporah Cullom were my great great great grandparents. He was in the Arkansas legislature, during Reconstruction days, I believe. They were divorced late in life. They were the parents of John Olive, the well-know Texas sheriff. My great grandmother, Carrie Cumie Nichols Simpson used to entertain us with stories of her Uncle John, her mother's (Mary Elizabeth Olive Nichols) brother. I don't think she realized he was sort of famous, but she was proud of him for the kind of man he was. She also told us about a china doll he gave her once for Christmas. My mother has done a lot of family research and will be glad to share.

Eli Mann / Eli Olive

From the Wake County, NC Quarterly Court Minutes, August Term 1817: "Eli Mann, an illegitimate child now of the age of five years old the 15 December last, is bound as an apprentice to Abel Olive until he arrive to lawful age to be taught the art of agriculture."

My guess is that this is the Eli Mann/Olive that is supposed to be the son of Southwood Olive, born circa 1813. This Eli was born December 15, 1811. I'm very familiar with the Mann family of Wake and Chatham Counties of that period and have never heard of an Eli Mann before this. My assumption is that this Eli was the illegitimate son of a mother with the surname Mann (one of Richard Mann's daughters) and one of the Olive men in southwestern Wake County, perhaps Abel or Southwood.

Those of you who know the Olive family well, what do you think?

Dear Janine

Any luck since your post? I believe that they married in Tasmania on 29 September 1834 at St.John's, Launceston, had their first daughter, Eliza, on 18 April 1837 in Legunia, Tasmania, and left Tasmania from Launceston on 2 September 1837 in the "Domain".

I also have concluded that William was the son of William Oliver and Sarah Davis.

All the best,
Andrew Morton

I believe that Marville Mattison Olive and Zepporah Cullum were Minerva's parents, however, she might have had a different mother. My records indicate that Zepporah, Marville, Minerva, and William Wauson are all buried in Williamson County, Texas. I think that William Olive and Patty (?) were Marville's parents, and William's parents were Abel Olive and Betty Ann Willis. If my records are correct, then Abel Olive was the son of James Olive and Mary Allard.

My GG grandfather was Walter Wauson and his son Edward Wauson was my G Grandfather. Jack Walter Wauson was my Grandfather. My father is Peter John Wauson.

Gertrude OLIVE m. Walter D. HAMRICK 1911

In April of 1911 Gertrude OLIVE stated that she was over 18 years of age and lived in Kansas City, Jackson Co., Mo.. She married Walter D. HAMRICK b. 1871 in Humbolt, KS who was also a resident of KC, MO. Walter was widowed in June of 1909 and left with two young daughters (one of whom was my grandmother). The marriage of Gertrude and Walter apparently did not survive long as I believe his third marriage took place about 1916, probably in California. He died in 1952 in Los Angeles. I would be grateful for any information about Gertrude OLIVE. Thanks for reading!

I've just come across these posts. My mother was an Olive born in Radcliffe. There are a lot of them! Her father's name was Walker Olive born 1885. The first name Walker came from the surname of an earlier ancestress and it was given to quite a few male descendants in their family. If you have Walker Olive in your family he may be one of them and I'd love to hear from you. If you are looking for information from graves in St Thomas churchyard, Blackburn Street, Radcliffe you will need to look in Bury Library as the graveyard was grassed over in 1966 but the MIs are recorded in Bury. Best of luck.
Jenny

Hi Kate
Not sure if you have this information yet.

Date November 24 1892
County Saint John
Place Saint John
Newspaper Saint John Globe

The death is announced of Mrs. OLIVE w/o James OLIVE, J.P. for Lancaster (St. John). Mr. Olive went over last Friday, but Mrs. Olive, who was unconscious, remained so. Mrs. Olive was a native of Yarmouth, N.S. and a sister of Thomas W. CLARK, formerly of Carleton .
Hi
Many thanks for your offer. Most of the info I have has come from Australia & a few English Census's.

I am looking for -
Israel OLIVE b abt 1826, parents may have been a John OLIVE B abt 1794 & Margaret OLIVE nee FROST b abt 1798. The parents are unconfirmed, and Israel may have gone to USA. Israel married Eliza Dorah BUXTON in 1849 at Manchester.

He was in England for his sons birth John b abt 1850 in Radcliffe & Israel b abt 1852 & George b abt 1856. These last 2 are unconfirmed, but the naming pattern fits.

Many thanks

Maria
You mentioned Radcliffe in a previous post.
There are two churches in the area where many generations of olives are buried. If you want me to check out the gravestones for names next time I drive up north then
please give me the names etc to check for,
I assume they were Church -of- England by Church Denomination
As I said before Radcliffe and Ainsworth were very small places at the time. ?

By the way we always put the number of Olives in Radcliffe
and Ainsworth down to that Radcliffe used to be a Roman
encampment.

Hi - The problem for me with 1881 Census is that the family I am researching arrived in Australia in 1879.

In the 1861 & 1871 Census John Henry OLIVE was living with his maternal grandparents John & Lydia BUXTON in Manchester, Lancashire.

I am unable to find out what happened to John's parents - Israel & Eliza OLIVE nee BUXTON between John's birth abt 1850 & the the 1861 Census. I have come up with a possibility in the 1851 Census, but the film is damaged and not readable. His parents may have been living with his grandparents.

I am trying to find Israel & Eliza's siblings and death.

The family stories have a connection with Canada/USA.

By chance I came across the web site tonight. I live in South Wales on the Atlantic coast of the UK.

However I was brought up in Lancashire in England

The Olive family did indeed come from Radcliffe in the county of Lancashire. Also many lived in Ainsworth Village which is about 2 miles away. It is quite an unusual name in the Uk.

A relative of mine was an Olive.

Regards

Rod
