Looking for descendents of a Catherine/Katherine Oliver

I am searching my family background for my Great-Grandfather who is the grandson of Enoch and Catherine. Enoch and Catherine had 4 children Mary, Plumer/Plulmer, Frank Portland, and Ruffus. Our line comes from Ruffus, when he died my G-Grandfather moved back to Kentucky with his mother and siblings and never spoke to anyone from the Floyds in Lake Village again and now we can't find anyone from his family. Here is what I have.

Frank Portland- died in Lake Village in May 1927 after drowning in the towns river. His wifes name was Audry/Audrey and they had Rosa, Olive, and Ralpf Floyd. They we still living in Lake Village in 1930 with a man by the name as Henry J Jenkins living with them as a border. This info comes from the 1930 Census. After That his family seems to disappear.

Mary- I have not found ANY info on her. I have tried but nothing.

Plulmer- I figured this would be a name I would be able to find but was wrong. I have also never been able to find anything on her.

Malcolm (Son Who Ran Away)- This was Enoch and Catherines other son. I did not mention him because he ran away and I do not know his age or any info on him.

Catherine and Enoch- Catherines Maiden name was Oliver and I do not know anything of her parent. Enochs parents were David and Susanah/Susannah (Nash)Floyd. They were marriend in Saint Clair Alabam and I believe they met in NC. Her parents were Nelson and Nancy Nash. David parents I have no info on. I also do not know how many children they have.

I have given you all my information I have and I would REALLY appreciate if anyone had ANY info they could give me and hopefully be able to find out where the family originated at and find some long lost relatives of my Great Grandfather
Harris & Oliver Family Connection--Late 1700's--Chesterfield, SC

I am trying to find the origins of my HARRIS family. Abel K. Harris was born somewhere in South Carolina in about 1802. In the 1820's he moved to Perry County, Alabama, and in about 1834, moved to Bibb County, Alabama. Abel HARRIS appears to have had a brother named Robert Oliver Harris, b. about 1813, also in South Carolina, who also made the move to Alabama. Abel Harris' neighbor and friend in Bibb County was the Henry Avery family, originally from Chesterfield Co., SC.

On the hunch that Abel Harris and Henry Avery might have known one another before their arrival in Bibb County, Alabama, I am searching for my Harris family origins in Chesterfield County, South Carolina.

One family which seems to have a strong connection to the HARRIS family is the OLIVER family. Several OLIVER families live close to the AVERY's and HARRIS families in Chesterfield Co., South Carolina in the early 1800's.

Several later generations of the Harris family in Alabama have the name "Oliver" used as a middle name, leading me to believe it is a family surname. Does any Forum member have any information of a connection between the HARRIS and OLIVER families in Chesterfield County in about the 1800 time frame or earlier?

Joseph Manuel Oliver

I'm trying to find out about my ggg-grandfather Joseph Manuel Oliver. He married Elizabeth Regin (Ragan?) August 1850 in Johnson Co. IL, the show up in Johnson Co. IL in the Fed Census Nov. 1850 in Johnson Co IL. The area they lived was near co line so some later census info shows them in Pope Co IL. According to Census info he was born in KY in 1830. She was born in TN @1829. Later Census also indicates his parents came from either NC or SC. I have not been able to find out if either had sibblings or what their parents names were. They had 9 children, Samuel C., Mary Jane, William Richard, Sarah Elizabeth, George Washington, John Hiram, James Ulyses, Sherman, and Eliza C. He also had 2 more children by a second marriage to Sarah H. Browning Harris, they were Delia Ann and Charles Young. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Please e-mail me at ljb_73@hotmail.com.

Harrison Oliver the Martin Sisters and Rebecca Butler

I have found the census regarding Harrison Oliver after her and Hannah Martin were no longer together and he was married to Rebecca Butler in Ill. He moved to California with Elizabeth and Emily F but they are listed with the census for Rebecca. I am actually looking for the tie between the Oliver women and my great grandfather George Edward Allen of California. Reportedly he lived with his grandmother Rebecca Oliver and another grandson Joseph Reeder. This Geo. Edw. Allen married Birdie/Bertie/Bertha Moore Dec 10, 1904. She at that time was Bertie Conn/Cahn as she had been married to William Conn in 1898 and had a son Ace/Adrian Stewart Conn.
Around 1858 a daughter of Hannah and Harrison named Lamira reportedly married a man named George Allen, however, according to history Lamira died that same year. My grandfather George E. Allen wasn't born until Jan 9, 1880 and I was wondering if that same George Allen that married Lamira ended up in California with the family and if he and one of Rebecca and Harrison's daughters ended up with him.
Anyone have any concrete evidence?
Am not related. May be of interest to someone who is. I have no further info but additional old newspaper extracts may be found at URL:

www.newspaperabstracts.com/index.php

Vern D
/////////////////////////////////
Transcribed by Dee Sardoc
////////////////////////////////
Stockton Daily Independent
Stockton, San Joaquin Co., CA
--------------------------------------------
>>SATURDAY, 2 MAY 1863<<

TERRIBLE ACCIDENT -- A dispatch from San Francisco to the ‘Union,’ April 30th, says:

The steamer Senator arrived tonight from the southern coast in charge of the 1st officer, BUTTERS. Capt. T.W. SEELEY was killed on the 27th instant by the bursting of the boiler of the little steamer Ida Hancock, on her trip down from New SAN Pedro to the anchorage of the Senator with passengers and freight. The steamer was a small propeller, owned by R. BANNING of San Pedro, and employed as a tug and in freighting between San Pedro and the ship anchorage. The boiler was new. There were some 50 passengers on board, and the loss of life is fearful. The boat was torn to pieces, and the explosion was heard on board the Senator. Boats were sent from the steamer, and the officers and soldiers at Camp Drum hastened to render assistance.

The following is the only list of killed and wounded procurable; it is not complete:
**Killed --
Capt. SEELEY
Wm. RITCHIE
W.T.B. SANFORD
Fred. KERLIN
H.M. OLIVER
R.M. HALL
Dr. H.R. MYLES
Thos. WORKMAN
L. SLESSINGER
M. LEVI
Richard PRICE
Chas. KINNEY
Joseph BRYANT
Sydney JOHNSTON [son of the late A. Sydney JOHNSTON]

Most of those reported dead were probably killed instantly. RITCHIE, Express Messenger, lived for 2 hours. A small portion of the Express matter was saved. There were some 25 killed in addition to the names reported.
-------------------------------------------------

SAD BEREAVEMENT -- In the recent explosion of the boiler of the steam-tug Ida Hancock, in the harbor of San Pedro, Mr. John SANFORD, one of the Board of Supervisors of this county, met with the loss of a brother whose name appears in the list of the killed. On board of the same steamer at the time of the accident, Mr. SANFORD had a mother, sister, brother-in-law and nephew, all of whom are reported among the wounded. They were all en route for this city and at the time of the explosion, were making the passage from the shore to the steamer Senator, which lay at anchor in the harbor. This is a sad bereavement and one which calls forth the sympathy of an entire community.

SAN FRANCISCO DISPATCH, May 1 --
-The funeral of Frederick COOK, Assistant Treasurer of the Overland Mail Co.; Captain SEELEY, of the Senator, and Frederick KERLIN, were largely attended today.
Elizabeth Oliver

My maternal great-grandmother was Elizabeth Oliver, but my family know nothing of what happened to her.
We believe she became ill and was in an asylum, but I don’t know when she died, or whether she died whilst still in the asylum.
My mother says she was never spoken about by members of the family, so it is my quest to try and find out what happened to her.
I know she was alive in 1913, but must have died before 1946 (which is when her husband remarried). I have been searching through the GRO indexes and have found many Elizabeth Olivers who died between 1913 and 1946, but there are too many for me to order all the death certificates!
I recently ordered one on a hunch hoping it might be her, but it wasn’t (that would have been too much to expect I guess!). If anyone else is searching for an Elizabeth Oliver, I have a copy of a death certificate for an Elizabeth Oliver who died in Fulham in 1940 (aged 69) and was the widow of Herbert James Oliver.
I would be happy to send a scanned copy of the certificate to anyone who thinks she may be part of their family as it seems a shame to not share the information I have already obtained. So please contact me if you think this might be of use to you.
I will go back to my search for my great-grandmother – but if anybody has come across the death certificate or has any information about an Elizabeth Oliver who was born in 1870 and was married to Ernest Oliver, please let me know. She was born Elizabeth Vetter in London, and I already have her birth and marriage certificates, but it’s really frustrating and sad not to know what became of her.
Thanks very much.

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone is researching or related to Andrew Edward Oliver, born abt 1862. He married Alice Maud Christoe (b1870 Millbrook, ON, Canada) on the 28th September 1888.

William J. Oliver was born in 1889 and they are listed as living with Alice's parents Joseph and Nancy Christoe in the 1891 Peterbourgh Canadian Census.

Delighted to hear from anyone researching/related to this family.

Regards, Malcolm

OLIVERs and FRAZEEs in Essex and Middlesex Co's., NY early 1700s

New Jersey's Abstracts of Wills (1730-1750) aand earlier have several references of FRAZEE and OLIVER folk related. At least two of these references also include the name SPRINGER.

1749 May 20 - Frazee, Mercy, of Essex Co Orphan upwards of 14 years. Samuel Oliver, guardian. William Springer, fellow bondsman.

Possibly the same Samuel Oliver and William Springer are mentioned as receiving payments after the death of Elizabeth Frazee c1748/49.

In 1712 a Denis SPRINGER is a witness to the will of Eliphalett FRAIZY (Frazee??).

It is assumed the FRAZEEs and OLIVERs intermarried after going through some of the will abstracts for NJ. I'm trying to see if the SPRINGERs also married in to this group from northern NJ.

A SPRINGER line in and around Albany, NY may possibly be related to the SPRINGER line that was in Essex and Middlesex Counties, NJ. David and Benjamin SPRINGER are supposedly the sons of a Dennis SPRINGER and wife Mary. David and Benjamin married two sisters, Margaret and Henrietta OLIVER. They lived in the Albany NY area.

Since the above David SPRINGER (d.1777) has been genetically linked to several other SPRINGER families in southern NJ and one in Sussex Co. in northern NJ, and several that used the given name 'Dennis', I am trying to find out if anyone has any info on the Essex and Middlesex NJ OLIVERs going to the Albany NY area.

thnx,

melissa

Olivers in NJ

I hope someone out there knows where I can go to find info. I have an ancestor that married an Oliver who immagrated to the U.S. probably through Ellis in the late 1800's I think she came to NJ in the mid 1880's because my great Uncle Wlliam Gardnier Smith married her on Oct. 14, 1888 in Salem, Salem Co., NJ. Her name is Martha Ann Oliver born in March 1862 in Ireland(though it could be Scotland) and her parents' names are Alexander and Margaret Oliver. I do not know any more than that other than she and William never had any children. If someone out there knows of this family and their relatives please let me know. Greatly appriciated.
Lewis Oliver sentenced to life in prison for burglary

Appears in "The Wapanucka Press" 26 May 1904 Wapanucka, Johnston County, Indian Territory, now Oklahoma

LIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR BURGLARY

Mason, Michigan: Lewis Oliver, who, in company with Fred Lesarge, stole $3 and two hats from a butcher shop, has been given a life sentence in Marquette prison by Judge West. It was his third offense for burglary. Judge West says that the statute provides that, where a prisoner has been twice sentenced for felony and is again arrested, he may be sentenced for life.

"Since Oliver was first sentenced in 1881," said the judge, "he has been under arrest more times than he can tell. He has served thirteen years for burglaries. I believe the statute referred to was framed for the purpose of ridding society of just such men as I consider Oliver to be."

Hi Mary,

I'm not sure if this is the couple you are interested in by I have that a Thomas Oliver married Ann McCartie b. Jun 25, 1706, daughter of Florence McCartie and Mary Wright. They had children Dionysius (Sr.) abt 1735, Eleanor abt 1738 and then also Peter, McCarty, James, Francis and Mary Ann 1740ish.

My sources are:

EXERPTS FROM Early Settlers of Alabama by Col. James E Saunders and his dau. Elizabeth Stubbs written in 1899
Peter or (Thomas) Oliver and his wife Ann, removed to the neighborhood of Petersburg, Va., some time before the revolution. Of their children ,
little is known except their names. These were: 1. Peter, 2. John,
3. McCarty, 4. James, 5. Dionysius, 6. Eleanor, 7.Mary Ann, 8. Francis
and perhaps 9. William and others.

from a manuscript entitled: "The Oliver Family" by Dorothy Haizlip Ward, 1990
page 3. She states that some say the ancestor of Dionysius Oliver of Elbert Co., GA was Peter and others Thomas and she chose Thomas.
She also says they perhaps had a child William and refers to the Stubbs book.

_______

Date: Mon, 28 Jan 2008 14:19:49 -0500 (EST)
From: Graylwolfe@aol.com
Subject: [OLIVER] Thomas Oliver & Mary McCary VA

Hi, does anyone have any information on Thomas Oliver, Petersburg, VA, wife
Mary McCary, and their daughter Ann in middle 1700s? Please let me know. Thank
You. Mary
