Olivers in VA to TN to TX: Thomas Jefferson, James Madison & Patrick Henry!

I received this quite some time ago:

"A Thomas Oliver of Virginia had 3 sons:
Thomas Jefferson,
James Madison, and
Patrick Henry Oliver.

The Olivers moved to NW Tennessee. James Madison became a physician. Patrick Henry moved to Miller Grove and Emory, TX where he was a farmer and butcher. Where Thomas Jefferson lived or what he did, I don't know. Patrick Henry died about 1914 in his 70's or early 80's, placing his birth circa 1835-1845."

I then found this:

Texas Death Index, 1903-2000

Patrick Henry Oliver d. 28 Mar 1914 - Smith County, TX

My ancestor, William Leonidas GRIGGS, married Catherine Eglantine PEEPLES. Thomas Jefferson OLIVER married her sister, Eugenia Aline PEEPLES. These two men owned the Oliver & Griggs Bank in Mexia, Texas, in the 1880s which later became the 4th National Bank of Dallas, TX.

Would love to know where in TN this Oliver family lived before coming to Texas. And, anything else anyone might have on their father and mother in Virginia.

I am looking for information on Thomas Oliver, who was married to Emma. They had their first child, Franklin in 1882, and their last, Effie, in 1889. By 1895 Emma is remarried to a Robert Redman. The family is from the Catskills - mostly Delaware County and the surrounding area. Any info or clues would be great!

Lisa - To take you back 2 more generations... Charles is the son of Franklin Oliver who spent most of his life in Arkville (buried in Margaretville). His father is Thomas Oliver, who died young, as his wife, Emma remarried. I have the census records for all that as well as Franklin's WWI draft card and Charles' draft card.

Aaron and wife Abigail are a "brick wall" for me also, as far as identifying their ancestors. The Malden, MA birth claim is based one of his military records which also describes his complexion as "Milato" with no evidence of a racial indication. He reinlisted as a private three times. He had been a mill operator before the military involvement. Some have identified a Massachusetts family as his parents, but the supporting data is unproven. One researcher suggested that Abigail was a Native American and gave a death date and location which local record authorities could not verify for me.

Greg

Greg

Aaron was listed as a private in each enlistment.

I would be happy to share my research regarding his descendants and keep searching for his ancestors.
Where is there a record of a Malden, MA marriage?

Greg

I have a Mary D. Oliver in my research, born Missouri, 1850, daughter of John Louis Oliver b. 1820, son of Lemuel Oliver b 1793. Lemuel is believed by some researchers to be the brother of Wesley Wilson Oliver b. abt 1808, father of James Anderson Oliver b. 1836, who was the father of James Alexander Oliver b. 1871, who married Elizabeth Reynolds. Wesley and Lemuel, and about 10 other Oliver men who are believed to be brothers and cousins ALL lived in Washington County Tennessee just around 1800 +or- 10 years or so.

That's the only connection I have so far. May not even be the same Mary D.

Yes, I went to the link you provided. My husbands family is descended from Marcellus Oliver. Marcellus also had a son, I think the youngest, Stephen Anderson Oliver (1880 census) S. A. Oliver had a son Guy Anderson Oliver. He was my husband's grandfather. Guy had 1 son Fred Stevenson Oliver, who in turn had 2 sons, Robert Stevenson (my husband, who goes by Steve) and his brother Scott. We have 2 boys also, Chase Stevenson Oliver and Logan Thomas Oliver. It doesn't look like girls are very prevalent in our line of the family. Thanks for your help, I will search the DNA project more thoroughly.

Do you know if there are any male Oliver descendants of Dionysius or Peter still living in the Elbert County area? I am trying to find a male Oliver descendant of this line who is willing to do the YDNA test for me. From other research I have done, I have a strong suspicion that I am from that line. I have hit a brick wall on my Oliver family and am willing to pay for a 25 mnarker YDNA test to either verify my suspicion or discredit it. If you can help me, please email me. Thanks for your consideration.

Richard Oliver was born in Bristol in 1664. He went to Antigua (I do not know when) where he set up the Oliver plantations. He died there on 29 May 1716. Robert Oliver, said to be his second son, who owned 120 acres of land in Nonsuch, came to Dorchester with his wife Ann nee Brown about 1737, when Thomas, the future and last Royal Lieutenant-Governor of Massachusetts, would have been about 4. After his banishment, Thomas Oliver returned to the city of his forefathers, Bristol. James Stark (1910) writes "He was proscribed and banished in 1778 and in the year following was included in the Conspiracy Act, and his large estate confiscated. Though he forfeited his estates in Massachusetts, he was better situated financially than most of his fellow sufferers, for he was wealthy from his possessions in the West Indies, still owned by his descendants. He was a studious man and lived in retirement in England. He died at Bristol, Nov. 29, 1815, aged 82, and left six daughters." I am descended from two of them.
