Hi- I just was reviewing old posts. I have found my dad's family actually through my cousin, who is more experienced with this than I am. However I recommend that you look through the census records, maybe more carefully. I had to double check DOB's for a conformation of that, then used that as my key search clue. Through this I found that my dad was actually born in Bird Island , MN and not Minneapolis. Guess people might of thought his a county bumpkin so he changed it.It's hard for us to think of the "ism's" that affected people's lives back in time. Went to a geneolgy meeting on Swedish Geneology at my local lib. and the speaker brought it up. The 1910,20,and 30 are worth a look. Good luck. Sorry this took so long. Linda

Family tree Nils and Catherine Olsen

Hi I am trying to find out something about our great granparents Nils and Catherine Olsen. They both came from Denmark in the early 1800's met and married in Bundaberg. They had 8 children, Elizabeth their 2nd last child was my grandmother. Nils was born in Ferslev in Denmark, and died in Bundaberg Qld in 1897 age 49,Catherine died in 1926 in her 80's,unfortunatley Nils changed his surname when he arrived in Australia,so it's hard to trace him back to Denmark,His family in Denmark owned a large department store on Copenhagen and he didn't want to go into the business so he shot through to Australia and chanded his name so they could't find him.It has always been a mystery and I would love to have any info about them,I know nothing about Catherine, anything about them would be great. They also had children called Matt,Toby and Frederick left up there the rest came to Brisbane many thanks Rochelle

My husband's father is:

Ralph Leslie Olson whom was born June 7, 1919 and passed away July 29, 2002. His brother/sisters names were Einar, Ole and Clara Olson (all passed). All born in ND.

Ralph's father's name was Christopher Olson born February 28. 1870 and passed away 1956. His mothers name/or Christopher's wife was Anna Christina (Engelson) born 1882 and July 1961.

My husband did not know his Grandparents we have no records as all have passed and records passed with them. So we are trying to put the puzzle together too. So if this helps you or is the correct one. It is very likely as Ralph traveled/moved frequently and was in WWII and cryptoghrophr decifering codes on submarines. So it is our understanding Ralph was also married prior to war and remarried following so difficult to find any pictures or records on Christopher Olson and Anna Christina Olson (Engelson). Hope this helps in your search.

Thanks for the inquiry. The only information I have on Nels and Catherine Olson is fron John's death certificate. Catherine Larson may be Cathena Larson. It is hard reading the handwriting. It does state both were born in Sweden. I only know John was born in Racine, Wisconsin. Cannot find any of them on the 1880 US Census in Wisconsin or Illnois.
I did find a John Olson in the 1990 US Census for Hobart Lake, Indiana as a border born April 1878 in Wisconsin. He was a day laborer. Also at that address were O.Iverson (Head), Catrana Iverson (Wife) and 2 more. Grandson and a border. If you have information my email is bandpdoherty@att.net. Thank you for your help, Bill
