William LaFayette Oran

I'm looking for information on William LaFayette Oran's parents. Many trees list John Oran and Anna M Parmer/Palmer. I can't find any records to back this up. The only reference I found is a Census record for 1880 that lists Anna M Orran as Mother to Head of Household. But then in 1900 it lists someone named Helton Oran as Mother to Head of Household. Actually she is Ann Helton Oran's mother. Most of the census records are wacky at best. I've looked everywhere for information on his family prior to 1880 but nothing seems to match. Does anyone out there have anything?

hello again. I hope you are still checking the boards here. We were in touch years ago and I seem to have lost track of you. I am Diana Mattson daughter of Elenor Orand.
I think that the last time we were in touch was in 2000. Do you have any new info on John W Orand. I see that you found his mother. Do you know the name of his father? Any info would be great. Thanks
Diana

Hey, Jennifer: Just surfing and found this board. I was Judy Orrand before I married. I am Jack Orrand's daughter. Your grandfather William M.and my grandfather Johnnie Vernon were brothers. I knew Maxie very well. Ironically, I have a niece named Jennifer Orrand. There are still several Orrand's around the Nashville, TN area. I have a World War II newspaper article that my grandfather had kept. It was about the Orrand brothers who were serving during the war. The three of them (Maxie, Vernon, and John) had an opportunity to meet up during the war. I think there's a picture of them.

My user name has changed, the orignal post remains the same. The subject has had more activety recently then 2000 when I first posted. I don't have cenus records dating back to 562 A.D. in Iona Scotland. What I do have isn't much, but I strongly relize that the connection to the name dates back that far. So since many have a surname similar but not Oran I know for me and the many recorded generations of my family could have a direct link to the one that was buried alive.

go into the census in England and do the different spellings of Oran, Orand, Orrand. That will show you where the Orans were when they were in England and also if you follow the steps to the last one in England that will show you which Oran, Orand, Orrand had been born and raised in Ireland. There's alot of steps to take when you are going that far back. Also I have a cousin that has helped me go back in the steps to find my Irish Ancestors. There man websites that my cousin had found. Most of them you have to pay alot for the info. So he decided traveling different places to find his info he needed.

The Orrand, Orand, Oran came in from England to Virginia not North Carolina but after John W. Orrand was born in 1793. , in mid 179's Orrand's moved to N.C. then branched out the children did after they got grown where they could work. My Orans were in England around 1730. then in Ireland in the 1400's to 1700. At that point they had to go to England to get work because in Ireland they couldn't get work in their hometowns. There is a place in Ireland that it a small city out from Dublin also. I plan to make a trip to Ireland soon. Because there's a few things I want to see there and go see the Oran Casrle there.

I see you've done your homework on the Oran, Orand, Orrand Families. The Orrand Family settled in wilson County, in Statesville, Tn. The Oran has so many different names as they crossed to England and had to register to be able to settle into England and from England they came to the New America as they called it. Ireland was closer to Engladn or Great Britain. It was a long ride by ship from Ireland to the New America so they had to go to England and settle there to be able to move on to America.
apierce37

Go to this website and you'll see what I'm talking about. My Oran Orand, Orrand ancestor goes with these three surnames. http://www.genealogyweb.com/. The Oran's had to go into England to provide for their families in Ireland. Then when they had enough money then that's when they came to the U.S.A. But they called it America as the New World. When you go into the site type in Oran and it will take you to another pg. You'll see the Ireland flag and click on it. It'll tell you where in Ireland Oran is from. As we know Orrand with two r's, right. I have researched the whole Orrand Families, plue other Families. So hope you enjoy the website. To all other Oran, Orand, Orrand Families ck out the website before you decide if it's German. Which some Orrand's are from Scotland also. Diane Hall I think you will find what you need soon. Because I did within 6 mons on the Orrand's. This is my last post.

Hello, I think ther may be a connection between my Oran/Orrin/Orand family. I am descended from Queen Victoria Orand. Her Father was A.B. Orand, 1880 in Webster Co., KY married to Margaret (Baker), both born in NC. In 1870 I find them both in Dixon, Wilson Co., TN in the Census. A.B. is listed as Ace Orand, b. abt 1816 in NC. Per data gathered, His name possibly was Aucus B. Oran.

In 1870 in Wilson Co., TN. P.O.

The Orrand info proven that I have starts as follows:
John W. Orrand-abt1790 married Charlotte Linder Rockingham
Children: Nathanel Linder Orrand-abt 1820
wife Elizabeth Grimes
Mary J. abt 1821 Married Robert Forrester 3/15/1847
Thomas J. abt 1822 m. Cynthia Young 11/25/1845
Elizabeth M abt 1824 m. J.W.D. Hollis 11/26/1856
John W. abt 1824 m. Eliza Jane Tally
John & Charlotte had guardianship of Anne E. McAdoo.
John, his mother Margaret(Peggy) and a T.J. Orand are burried in Cannon County Woodbury, Tn at Taylor or Edgefield Cemetery. The cemetery is called by both names. M. Orand is inscribed as 100years. Peggy is in the 1950 census as being 96 years of age. Nathanel was a Justice of the Peace and married or put up bond for his brothers and sisters. After John's death in 1854 the Orands seem to scatter. I am a decendant of Thomas J. Visit my sight at Genealogy Sight:UserHomePage:The Orrand Family. That should get you their. If not the page was made by family tree maker and if you give me your e-mail address I will send it to you.

This should be my e-mail. Instered in what you have found out. I picked up my grandfathers research in 1999. Also the census that they are calling the Cannon Co. Census is a state index. Don't know why they are calling it the Cannon Co. Census but I have read the cannon co census. Tell you more on Cannon Co. when you e-mail.
Jacqueline Orrand Nevitt

Hi Charles,
I have a copy of both census. In Wilson Co. Asa B ORRAND lived in the 15th District with at the time was on the border of Wilson and Cannon Counties. In the Cannon County Census looking at an index page 53 WI-1504-1082. which I believe means the info was taken from the Wilson Co. Census. The first census Azel is found in is 1840 Wilson Co. 1 male & 1 female 20-30, 1 male & 1 female 0-5, and 1 black male 20-30. I'm also wanting to say Asa had 2 deaf children William, a girl?, I believe it was Nancy. The first (Ornen) to be found in this part of the country was John & Thomas in 1820 census. Please e-mail me if this helps or you have any more question. I try to go to the Archives once a week. Mercmanr4@aol.com.
Hello,
My name is Jacqueline Orrand Nevitt and I live in Wilson Co. TN. Glad to see some is back for more Orrand research. Looking at the census 1850 Asa is listed in both Wilson Co. & Cannon Co. with the same people he had to have owned land in both counties. Both census reads as follows: Asa B. Orrand, 33, of N.C., Margaret, 30, Julia, 17, William, 15, Mary, 14, Nancy, 12,(Wilson Co. spelling) Lucky, 10, (Cannon So. spelling) Locky, 10, Eleanor, 6, Henrietta, 2, states all are from N.C. In the 1840 Wilson Co. census there is a Azel Orren. He lived on a farm next to Rachel and Spencer Shelton. Have more info.Mercmanr4@aol.com

I am interested in your lines that are in Webster county, KY. I have a Mary Elizabeth Orran who married Josiah Shelton in Rockingham county, NC in 1819, but marriage bond states 1822. They moved to Christian county, KY early 1800's and then into Henderson county, KY and ended up in Webster county when it was formed in 1860. In 1894, she was mentioned in the Maury Democrat newspaper (TN?) as being the oldest mother in Webster county, KY and the oldest Great-great-grandmother in the history of the US! Mary Elizabeth died in 1895.

A William Orran was the bondsman for the marriage bond in Rockingham. I have been trying to locate her parents since....forever!

The info I have on my Oran-Orand families from Webster Co., Ky is that my great grandparents James Matthew Oran married his 2nd or 3rd cousin Serena Eller "Ella" Oran
October 17, 1888 in Dixon, Webster Co., KY. All of the known marriages of Serena "Ella" Oran siblings were also in Webster Co., KY. James Matthew Oran parents James M Oran and Mary Elizabeth Tribble were married in 1863 in
Cannon Co., TN. James M Oran was born in 1820 in Tennessee.
This family also lived in Caldwell Co., KY. WJC Oran and his wife Jane "Caroline" Grimes-Grymes were married in 1854 in Wilson Co., TN. WJC Oran was born in 1830 in NC. Like you I am still searching for the parents of my Oran lines.
Thanks to these message boards I do have some clues and leads, just need to verify these, which we all know is easier said than done.
