Arthur Francis Orange (Boston, MA)

I am trying to find any information on my great-grandfather's parents, siblings, etc. He was born 29Dec1896 in Massachusetts according to SS index. Married to Josephine Lamoureaux. Children are Arthur, Edward, Mary, Francis (my grandfather), Raymond, Jacqueline and (I believe) Robert. I cannot find any information past him on here, or any other site. I was always told as a child that my father's ancestors originated in Ireland and was given some story about how their last name was Benson, but they changed it to Orange when they arrived. However, I was also told that this may have been false information passed down to avoid anyone actually knowing who our ancestors are because they may have been part of the IRA. I am so confused on this and I REALLY would like to know more about my family. If anyone has any info, PLEASE don't hesitate to contact me! Thank you in advance!!!
-Megan Orange (I'm signed in under my mom's name on here)

Thomas and Matilda Orange

Looking for information on Matilda who was married to Thomas Orange of Fayette County. He was born in about 1831 or so. He has a wife Matilda in the 1860 and 1870 Redstone, Fayette Census records. Then in 1880 Matilda is gone and there is a Malinda J Orange with step kids, Luella, Una, and Ura Steadman. The funny thing here is that I am trying to connect Matilda and Malinda as sisters. I have found a grave for Matilda dying 1876 and buried at the New Salem Methodist Ep. Church without Thomas. My hopefull connection here is my ggg grandfather Daniel Crawford has 8 sisters, and two of them are Matilda and Malinda. The ages are right on and the location is right as well, because in 1850 Daniel's family lives in in Redstone as well. Let me know if anyone has any ideas. I would love to have an obit of one of these sisters of Daniels.

I have a John Orange in my family, who was born in Wexford Ireland in 1849. He eventually came to Ottawa, but he could have landed in New York when he left Ireland. I also don't know what his occupation was. Tough call, for sure. I would be intersted in seeing the picture if you post it. Thanks.

I would love to have copies of these photos when you find them. In regards to Henderson (Henry W), I have not been able to find him anywhere except for the 1840 census and in the Virginia marriages. Rebecca was a Lucas and two of her brothers married Ford girls. Thus I think the Ford and Orange families stayed close. I believe Henry must have been alive but maybe working else where to support his family. Did your family also live in that area? I'm finding many of the families are related through marriages. Each family had a lot of kids and it appears the families in that area stayed in that area for decades.

I really appreciate you're taking the time to search for descendents of the individuals in the photos. That's very thoughtful of you.

Also, what happened to the father of these Orange's? He isn't in the 1850 census or 1860. I guess his name was Henry Henderson Orange? His wife, Rebecca, is living with a "Samuel Ford" in 1850 and no man listed in 1860.

What a wonderful surprise to hear back from you. Yes - I do know their names. William Orange and Alexander Orange were both police officers in Richmond. There were 9 kids (6 boys and 3 sisters) who were born in the Brookland, Henrico area of Virginia between 1830 and early 1850's. William's occupation in the 1860 census is listed as policeman and then Alex is listed as a "police" in the 1870 census. My great grandfather was Andrew Orange.

I am searching for any descendants of Daniel Orange born 1793 in England. William Orange born 1796 in England and Benjamin Orange born 1803 born in England. They left London in 1820 approx. for Illinois and New Hampshire, USA
Daniel married Elizabeth James Luntley. William married Barbara Tait and Benjamin married Elizabeth Beresford.
If you know of these families I would be happy to hear from you. They all had many children, so there must be many descendants from the Orange family, whose original origins were in Normandy, France.
Thank you

I am a direct descendent of Oranges from the Brookland, Henrico County, Virginia area. Later (1860 to early 1900s) several moved to the Richmond.

I believe we may be descendents of John Orange, son of Louis Orange, but I can't make the connection from 1734 to 1801. I know the area they lived in is really close to land granted to John Orange.

Henderson Orange (b: Abt 1801) is living next to, or near a Peggy, Betty, and/or Elizabeth Orange around 1810, 1820, 1830 timeframe.

Seeking to verify marriages and children of Dona ROBERTS. Marriage records show Donie B. ROBERTS to W. G. ORANGE, 27 Dec 1894; Mrs. Dona ORANGE to J. R. CHAPMAN, 4 Jan 1906; Mrs. Dona CHAPMAN to George W. ORANGE, 18 Nov 1910, all in Smith Co, TN. I believe this is the same Dona in all three marriages--is that correct?
1900 census: William G. and Donie B. ORANGE; 3 children, all living: Hubert C.(4), Nelly(2), and Nonie (Novie?)(1). Undocumented record shows William died in 1902.
Although Dona md. CHAPMAN in 1906, in 1910 census Dona ORANGE is head of household, married 2x, 4 children, all living: Hubert (14), Nellie(12) Nana(11), and George(7). No evidence of what happened to J. R. CHAPMAN; census may have been in error and listed her surname as ORANGE because all the children were, but she was Mrs. CHAPMAN when she md later that year. Was George the son of William G. ORANGE or J. R. CHAPMAN?
1920 census: George W. and Dona ORANGE, two children, Ivy (7) and Lincoln (5). Children from her first marriage were old enough to be on their own, although George would only have been 17.
1930 census: Dona B. ORANGE head of house, widow, children Ivie (17), Lincoln (16), Odessa (12) and Milford(sp) (8).
Were Odessa and Milford actually her grandchildren, children of her son Hubert? Hubert md in 1916, had a 2-yr-old dau Odessa in the 1920 census; in 1930 he is listed as single and living with his sister Nellie and her husband Cecil NIXON.

Hello Paul
I have noticed your 2002 list posting re the Orange family. You mention Albert Edward Orange who immigrated to New Zealand in 1857,along with two brothers. I think one of the brothers must have been David Orange born about 1834, also a son of David Orange born about 1801 in Wakefield, Yorkshire.
David married Emma Bolton in 1856, and they had one son, William David Orange, born in 1857. (He had previously been married to Harriet Pilcher, who died in 1855.) Emma and son William appear on later census records in England but David does not even though Emma indicates she is married.
Can you confirm whether David was one of the three brothers. I'd also be interested to know any other details you have on him.
Thanks
Meg
BC Canada

1) Looking for confirmation of the name of John S. ORANGE's first wife (b. abt 1882, Ky) and whether she died or they were divorced. Kentucky Marriage Index shows her as Bertha CHAPMAN, marr. date 14 Jun 1900. I have been unable to find either of them, single or married, in the 1900 census. They had two children: Clarence (b. abt 1901, Ky) and Pearl (b. abt 1903, Ky.) John's 2nd wife was Minnie L. VANHOOSER and the two children are living with them in Caldwell Co, Ky in 1910; on the same census page is the household of Alfred GADBERRY, wife Belle Z [or E], and dau Ella L. [probably Etta L].

2) In 1920 John and Minnie ORANGE have three children, plus Clarence and Pearl, living in Caldwell Co. Next to them is the Joe M. VANHOOSER household, wife Mary I [probably Minnie's parents]; the next family is All GADBERRY and wife B[*] Z., and living with them are Clarence and Pearl ORANGE, listed as step-grandchildren. The next family is the household of Cecil KYLE, whose wife Etta, is the dau. of Alfred GADBERRY. Is Alfred GADBERRY's wife "Belle Z. [or E]" the same as Bertha CHAPMAN, John ORANGE's first wife? Is it possible that there are two sets of children named Clarence and Pearl ORANGE? Actually on the census the ages of the two are one year younger in one household than the other.

3)In 1930 John and Minnie ORANGE and their 6 children are in Johnson Co, Ill. Neither Clarence nor Pearl is still at home. Belle GADBERRY died in 1928; haven't found Alfred GADBERRY either in 1930 census or in death records. Where are Clarence and Pearl?

Who were WillimS. Orange's parents? Perhaps I can make a connection with you further back because I believe that we are related somewhere along the line. I recently found that my William who lived in Fayette Co, PA and his offspring came to first the Cincinnati area and then the Monroe Co., area in OH. He was related to the Louiss Orange family who settled in VA early and had several sons who in turn had sons. My William was one of these. If you have another generation back, it might help people to make the connection.
ORANGE - KY,WV/VA

Hello: I just learned (today) of my paternal grandparent's ancestry and my grandmother was Virgie Mae ORANGE; originally of Roanoke VA.

She lived at one time in Jenkins, Letcher County, KY with my grandfather Cameron PRUITT (circa 1930s). Virgie Mae operated a boarding house for many years in Jenkins.

Cameron PRUITT worked at one time (circa 1930s) in the coal mines around Bluefield WV/VA.

She teased my mother about being descended from "William of Orange" from the "old days" in England.

Virgie Mae died around the same time that I was born (1961) and she is buried with Cameron in Broadford, Smyth County, VA.

ANY assistance would be appreciated about the ORANGE or PRUITT family from this line.

Thank you very much.

Alan Pruitt
Pleasanton CA

alan.pruitt @ gmail dot com

I have also been working a bit with a granddaughter of their sister Garnet Sheeks Stott.
This line is our grandfahters, Lillie C Cain, Lydia L Jackson & Sarah Ann Orange. I have a few documents here I think you might enjoy seeing. I'll be happy to email you a copy of the items I have scanned and to copy the larger file and snail mail it to you.
I am also 99.99% sure I have found Nicholas Sheeks' family.
Please, I would love pictures. I have a pic of Lillie and a bad pic of Lydia. I would love copies of any pics you have or copies of any documents you might have.
Maybe we can help each other out a little.
Please.... Let's talk and compare notes.
Love,
Barb

Well, six years later, we all know that all of these people mentioned are related to each other in one way or another. I have been in touch w/ some of you and I have rec'd other data from different researchers that allows me to make this statement now. Sorry that I did not check the box when someone had answered my original query. I am just now reading these answers all of these years later. I will be happy to share what I have and perhaps together we can get all of this meager family together. It is not a large one from my standpoint. My only male lead died many years ago. Strictly female lines but they are important also. Marjory Petty Austen

Scot, I have some information on your ancestor Rachael Elizabeth Orange who married Martin Hess. You may have learned more by now. I think her sister is Sarah Ann Orange and her brother is Thomas Orange, all of them children of William and Elizabeth Orange, but have not proven this yet. She is in the 1850 Fayette Co. Pennsylvania census as Elizabeth Hess and according to "Lewis Perry Hess Biographical Notes: 'Grandmother Racheal Orange d. 1850
Burial: Old Smock Cemetery, grave marker. Elizabeth Wife
d.Dec 7 1851 Aged 59 yrs 11 mos 16 days.'" That would make her born in 1791. Sarah was born in 1795. Do you have more information now?
Janet Seegmiller

is buried in the "Old Smock
