I had completely forgotten about this message board!! I hope you're still out there somewhere. I would love to hear from you again, swap information and get in touch with some family members! Robert's grandson, Eric (my Grandfather), has just turned 90!! It would be great to tell him some more about the grandfather he never knew!

I am doing some research for a friend on her family ie Orkney. ROBERT orkneys father was a john ORKNEY born circa 1808 in berwickshire SCOTLAND or Berwick upon Tweed England .Berwick is claimed by the english and scots as theirs.John was a military policeman warder at the royal garrison depot in weedon northants he and his wife mary had 5 sons james 1834 thomas 1838 john circa 1841 benjimin circa 1844 and robert circa 1848 all born in woolwich london. I have quite a lot of info if you would like it and I could put you in touch with your relatives hope to hear from you sue mcmurdo

Read with interest comments re Orkney family. I am a descendent of Alexander Orkney (16??) through his son William (b. 9 June, 1682, Forfar, Angus), Robert (27 August 1727, Marykirk, Kincardineshire), Alexander (27 May 1753), James (8 Oct. 1808), James (10 Aug. 1835) and Robert (3 Mar 1853) my great-grandfather.

Just saw your message. I'm still around and doing lots of genealogy, but hit a brick wall on my Orkney line. I can't get back beyond 1790 when my ggg-grandfather married in Canada. Did he change his original surname to Orkney?

Is anyone else researching this family from Kincardinshire?

My particular interest is Helen Orkney who married Jacob Henry Hart in Grimsby, Lincolnshire in Oct 1886. Helen's line appears to start with Robert Orkney m. Helen Alexander in 1752; related names include: Davidson (George m. Mary Orkney 1820); Murray (Jean m. James Orkney 1834); Carnegie (Jean m. James Orkney 1859); Grub (James m. Margaret Orkney 1757). Most marriages took place at Marykirk.

I've been absent from the mailing lists for a couple years and have lost all my Orkneyss(Betty Wintersteen, Lynn Conlon, Joan Orkney) address. Do you have any of these people's adress. And since I've been out of touch any new info on any Orkney's? Sorry I've been away, not much ambition since my attack 2.5 yrs ago.

Seeking info about Helen ORKNEY born 1846 stated to be from Cheltenham, Gloucestershire when married to Jacob Henry HART of Grimsby, Lincolnshire. She died in Grimsby, Lincolnshire in 1902. Her father was James ORKNEY occupation Stonemason. This is all the information I have. Any information you have that may tie in with this would be gratefully received. Thanks

I am researching my Orkney family and have only got as far as my great-great grandfather Robert Orkney. He came out to Western Australia in 1876 leaving his wife (Eliza Hopper) and son (Reginald Selkirk) behind. Reginald later followed and is buried in the outback. I have been unable to find a birth (date or place of) for Robert so far. I only know that his father's name was John. Robert remarried in Australia. My great-grandfather, Harry Spencer, was the only son of this union as Robert died in 1896 when Harry was 6 months old.

I have a John McLean that married a Mariah Elley in Canada. He was born 1850, not sure where. Buried in Bothwell Cemetery. I have a bit more info and am looking for info on their children: Christy, Percy, Roy, Elsie and FLora Ann

Frederick Orkney born in Montrose, Jan. 1883. 13th child of 15th. Father's name - Robert. Sister that I know of: Jessie, Isabella, Maryanne. Know of 1 brother - Alexander, who moved to England.
