Hi, I hope this reaches you. I believe our families are related. My g-grandfather was Thomas Kelleher born 1844 and died in 1914 in Castlequarter, Ballymacarbry, Co. Waterford. His siblings were Mary, Ellen, and Johanna (no b's or d's). His parents were Bridget Myles and Patrick Kelleher. They married in Ardfinnan, Tipperary in 1842. The Myles family had their homestead there, but moved to Castlequarter, Ballymacarbry, Co. Waterford. Bridget's brother THomas Myles married Julia Lonergan. I don't know about other siblings. Bridget Myles' parents were Patrick Myles and Mary Prendergast. Johanna, Patrick, and Bridget are common names in my family.

Searching ORMOND Families in USA

Those searching for the surname ORMOND in the USA may want to contact Ms. Betty Thornburg, family historian for the ORMOND/ORMAND families. She can be reached at ormand987@aol.com.

PLEASE NOTE: There were subtle spelling changes to the ORMOND name during the 1800s in the U.S. Many of the ORMOND immigrants in Ms. Thornburg's work came into North Carolina from England and Scotland; however, her work contains many families who entered through Canada and the Northeastern U.S.

Of interest to many of us American Ormonds and Ormands are the connections between the U.S. and Ireland, not the least of which is the *true* origin of the name.

James Ormond -- Bridget Kelleher, from Ireland

I am researching my family tree at the moment, Ormond being the name in question and the family in particular came from Ballymacarbery, Co. Waterford, in Ireland. My g.grandparents being James Ormond b.1864 d.1950 and his wife Bridget Kelleher b. 1859 d. 1905, they had four children Michael, Johanna, Patrick and John. Patrick Ormond was my grandfather. Michael married Mary Cullinane from Rathgormuck, Co. Waterford, Johanna married Jim Molloy from Wexford, and Patrick married Elizabeth Kealy from Wexford. John died in 1916 aged 21.
Other cousins of my grandfather were Butlers, Powers, Desmonds, Prendergasts, and Flynns. Other associated names include Crotty, Corbett, O'Brien, Moroney, Melody, and still the research continues.

Martha Archa Ormond was the sister of my grandmother "Bessie",Elizabeth Mabel Ormond. I am trying to find the documentation after Wyriott Henry Ormond. My father was Henry Ormond Wade. My maiden name is Sarah Ann Wade.
I would like to discuss this further. I have William Ormond and Ann Murphy to the mid 1600's, but I don't have proper documentation to prove this information. Look under my ancestry link to Wade Family Tree, and you will find my name. Are you really a cheese head? I know of a few others!

Am researching John Francis Ormond, born Aug. 27, 1898, in New York City, died in January 1983 in Jackson Heights, NY. His father was James Ormond, b. Aug. 1867, in Ireland, immigrated to NYC in 1896. His mother was Katherine Hayes, born May 1866 in Ireland, immigrated to NYC in 1887. Parents married in 1896/97 in NY. John Francis Ormand married Jean (last name unknown) in 1922/23. Had three children - Catherine, born in NY in 1923; John Jr., born in NJ in 1924/25; and Edward, born in NJ in 1927. John and Jean separated before 1945 but were probably never divorced. John lived in Jackson Heights, Long Island, NY, and married Cornelia ("Peg") Rogers in 1978. Am looking for John's children or grandchildren who may know the family history. I am John's niece.

Hi Chris,

My 3rd great-grandparents were John Ormond (b. St. Issells, Pembrokeshire; d. 1 Aug 1874 in Tenby) & Sarah Bennett (b. 1803 Tenby; d. Oct 1887 Tenby).

Their children were Martha (b. abt 1834), Richard (b. abt 1838); William (Apr 1840-Jan 1919); John (1844 - 1882 or 1883) and Thomas (b. abt 1849) - most were b. Tenby.

Do any of these names ring a bell?

Thanks,
dee

I'm trying to get in touch with ancestors of my great-grandparents, John Ashton and Martha Ormond Ashton Williams.

He was born abt 1861 in Wales (poss. Montgomeryshire), son of Thomas Ashton and Jane ?

He married Martha Ormond (b. abt 1863 Pembrokeshire, Wales) on abt 28 Sep 1880 in Wales. Between March 1886 - Jan 1889, he and Martha immigrated to the USA (poss. Pennsylvania).

By 1891, Martha was a widow, back in Wales. In 1898, she married John Williams. In 1906, (again a widow), she immigrated to Canada with her step-children, Robert R. Williams and Flossie Jane Williams. After the 1911 Canadian (New Brunswick) census, they immigrated to PA, where she died 20 Feb 1916 in Butler, PA.

I'd love to hear from any Ashton or Ormond/Williams descendants.

p.s. Martha's parents were William Ormond and Margaret Evans, both born in Wales.

John Williams was b. abt 1857 in Glamorgan, Wales. I don't know the name of his father; his mother was Ann ?

I am still doing mine in between other things and have been to pembroke to have a look at where my family came from. The only Ormond i have is still your Rosa but i am sure there must be more connections somewhere as i have found a few instances of the two families in the same location, piecing it together is the hardest part! Anyway it would be great to hear from you again. If you have any info on John Melbournes children, especially their married names it would be great. i have his birth cert but not much else on him. Speak soon. Zoe :-)

Though now i am in Llanelli, my Brinns are from Pembroke. I have a John Melbourne Brinn marrying a Rosa Ormond in about 1911. I dont know whether they were still in pembroke but they had children. John's Brother Sidney moved to Llanelli with his wife and children and he (SIdney) is my greatgrandfather. Do you have any links to Rosa? or have you found any more brinns ?
