My Maria Otto was born in 1863 (New York)
had a sister, Louisa, born 1866 (in New York)
sister, Sophia Born 1869 (in New York) and a brother
Theodor Johann Rudolph Otto, born 1871 in Carlstadt

Maria married John Gempp and they had one child, my grandfather, Otto John Gempp. I believe she may have died shortly thereafter, my grandfather was raised by his Aunt Louisa (Hoffman, wife of Charles)

I have never been able to make a connection between Otto Gempp and Theodore. At one point I actually contacted Theodore Gempp Jr.'s daughter who's name is Audrey and lives in Georgia. I take a break every now and then from the ancestry stuff, gets kind of frustrating, but I'm doing it again these days.

After some on and off researching, I've determined that Louisa Gempp's brother, John, was my direct ancestor.

He married Maria (a/k/a Mary) Otto and had my grandfather, Otto John Gempp in 1891.

Maria Otto was born on November 20, 1863 in New York.

I have not been able to determine her date of death.

Don't think that's my Otto's. Johann Otto (1830)was my Great Grandfather, and I am not sure where in Germany he came from, but currently we are thinking Bavaria or Prussia.

Update 2011:

Hulda Otto married William Maxwell born Evangelisch, Adelnau, Posen, Germany.
Louise Adolphine Otto married August Probe Evangelisch, Adelnau, Posen, Germany.

Oskar Otto his death certificate says he was born in Ohlau, Germany. His birth certificate was not listed with his sisters.

These are the children of Ernst Otto and his first wife in Germany, Mathilde Bredtscheider. They married 8 May 1851 in Evangelisch, Adelnau, Posen, Germany.

These certificates give Ernst Ottos father as Carl Otto. (Familysearch.org)

Finally after all these years, I can give a name to the mother of Ernst Ottos children who came from Germany to Fayette Co., TX. I believe his wife died in Germany. He came on the ship SSKoln to New Orleans 27 Feb 1872. No wife or children are listed with him, and I cannot find them listed on another passenger list.

I wonder if anyone knows which ship brought the children to Texas? The passenger list of the SSKoln did not say with family as many do.

Ernst Otto married in Texas 21 Jun 1874 to my great great grandmother Josephine Pauler.

LISBON, Ohio – Thomas R. Otto, 48, of Laughlin Road died in a work related accident in Wooster, Ohio Wednesday, May 25, 2011.

Born Oct. 4, 1962, in Bellaire, Ohio (Belmont County) he was the son of Dorothy (Kriechbaum) Otto and the late Thomas Benjamin Otto.

He worked as a lineman for Thompson Electric through I.B.E.W. Union Local 71. He worked in the trade for 21 years.

Tom will be missed by his mother of Bellaire; his wife, Terry L. (Koehler) Otto; daughter Jessica L. Otto of Moundsville, W.Va.; sisters Colleen S. Seay of Englewood, Fla. and Kelly Ramsay of Jacobsburg; mother-in-law Theresa Koehler of Austintown, Ohio; seven nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Weber Funeral Home.

Burial will be at Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Calling hours will observed from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

In keeping with Tom’s style, please wear jeans to the service.

Hi, so is all the Otto family related? I'm not familiar with this, and this may sound odd to you all, but I was curious because my great grandfathers last name is Otto. My dads mom who is my grandma is half german and half samoan. My grandma passed in the 80s. It was her and her brother from the same mom n dad. im not sure if anyone in my family knows his first name but the last name is Otto, and the name is now being carried down. Well this is the history Germany used to rule over Western Samoa in Apia, and so that is where I suppose my german g-granpa met my samoan g-grama. I would like to know if anyone has any tips..(=

Iam doing research on my late husband's family. I have found out recently that Anna Margaret Oberhausen Leuck is a descendant of Gertrude Otto and Francis Xavier Oberhausen.

At an auction recently I purchased a box of books which included an old Bible.

Handwritten on the birth page were the following names:

Elsworth Otto Dec 8, 1880
Marry Otto July 7, 1883
Bessie Otto Dec 31, 1886
Johney Otto Dec 9, 1888

No other entries were made in the Bible and it is in pretty bad shape.

I would gladly return it to a family member. Anyone interested in it please reply.

I am not at all sure that we are talking about the same Otto family, but I will tell you what I know about my Great Grandfather, Johann Christian Otto. He was born in 1830 to my best guess - where I am not sure. One US census says Bavaria, though I have an emigration report for him out of Wurtemburg area. He immigrated to USA in 1864 (again to my best guess), and was naturalized in Philadelphia on Oct. 1, 1887 (I do have the naturalization papers). My Grandfather was born in 1876 in Philadelphia.

not sure if following is going to be of any use to you
My Gt,Gt,Gt,Grandfather, Loius Otto born Hanover,(N.G) Niedersachen Germany in 1770 (parents unknown)
Loius was a member of the Kings Royal German Legion (British Army) and fought in the Napoleon War, at the end of this war the Kings German Legion was bisbanded and some of the soldierscame to England, some also emigrated to America, those who came UK continued to serve in British army or were pensioned off soon after arriving. dispersing to Ipswich?Woodbridge (East Coast of UK) some to London and others emigrated to america.
in your search have you tried Hanover Niedersachen for OTTO

attached found in amongst phots my mother had. not sure who it is but my sister and I believe it could be George Otto as according to my mother her gt or gt gt grandfather had a bushy beard. need to work out who is with him. and study all facial features compare with other ottos.

We must be the same generation, Margaret. He was also my mother's Gt,Gt Grandfather. She was a daughter of Amy Otto, who was daughter of Arthur, who was son of George, who was son of Louis. What is your descent from Louis, if you don't mind me asking?

I'm very keen to know anything about Louis' parent and siblings, and about whether Louis was the only one to come to England from Germany. If anyone has any info about that I'd be delighted to hear.

Another Otto!

My grandfather's name was George William MacIntyre Otto, my great grandfather was Isaac Otto. I don't have exact dates yet, but will add them soon. The story I got from my grandfather was that we came from northern Germany in the 1700's, coming to land in the U.S. colonies. When the civil war broke out, my branch of the family migrated north to Canada (aka Loyalists). Our family settled on a farm not far from Upper Canada Village.
Anyone with anything similiar?

I have a Karl Freidrich Otto from Saxony, my ggrandfather was his son Karl Emil Otto b 1837 in Leipsiz. I have no information of family in Germany other than Karl Freidrich died in Mansfield in approx. 1851. My Karl Emil was raised by an oder brother also no name and married a distant cousin Amelia Otto born in Berlin but I have not further information. Not sure if we have connected before, but wonder if there is any cousin connection? I have recently found out that Karl Emil had several cousins living near Columbia Ill. but again have no names. I have a Johann Christian Otto immigrating to the US from Germany, but I don't know and cannot find the year. He was my great grandfather, and I do know that my Grandfather was born in 1876 in the US so it was before the 1880's. I would love to find out about this family, but have trouble with records that I can find because most of them are written in German which I do not understand. Jane K
