Bridgit, I do not know if you will read this or not since your post was way back in 2000. Anyway, I was wondering whether you were related to either Diana Oxman, Poullette Oxman (unless her name has changed during marrige), Courtney Oxman, Eva Oxman, or my father Byron Oxman.
The reason I was wondering this is because I knew one of them had a daughter named Bridget and I thought it was a heck of a coincidence.

Bridget, You could not have known more pure of souls than your second cousin Sandra and her husband Hal. Sandras wisdom astounded all; she had the virtue of understanding at a deep level and with humility. We had an unconditional kinship. Hal's magnanimous disposition and sharp wit won him many friends. Their daughter is a conteder for Oxford. Peter is a genuine, intelligent person who is happily married.

Other cousins are alive and well. I have known the Oxman side of the family for over 25 years.

But speaking of immediate family, your cousin Caitlin is a very talented writer who is winning national awards awards.

I'm not sure of the source of your information, but it's not exactly correct. Some of the brothers used the name Oxman, some Axman. Abraham died more than 20 years before 1965. Bernard's mother was 84 when she died, ardoun 1963-4.

Family abounds around you. But time passes quickly and opportunity is lost because of ill-founded myths. You will never know those who pass away. Seek and you shall find.

Julie, my second cousin, Jody, is the great grand daughter of Abraham Oxman. Receiving a scholarship, she has visited Russia and studied the language. If you provide the names of any Oxmans that you know, she might be able to provide you with information.

Also, I'll have to contact my cousin Norma in New York to determine if my clan has been buried in Mt. Hebron. Family has been returned to New York for burial.

Abraham Ochsman immigrated from Qubynsky, Russia in 1907, arriving at Ellis Island on June 26 . He was 32 at the time. His ship of travel, the Caronia, departed from Liverpool. His manifest line number was 0001. If Abraham were Bernard's father, Abraham would have been around 45 at the time of his youngest son's birth. I recall Bernard stating that is father was around 56 when he died of bronchitis or some lung ailment. If Abraham Oshsman was Bernard's father, Abraham's two oldest sons, Jack and Nat, modified their surname to "Axman", while the two youngest, Louis and Bernard, called themselves "Oxman". During the early 1980s, I remember my uncle Nat describing his experiences in Bolshevik Russia as a teenager. He would therefore have traveled to the US after 1917, possibly 1919, implying that Abraham lived in the New York area for approximately 12 years prior to his wife (Minerva?) and children arriving.

I believe that you know something about the Axman/Oxman family. Abraham Ocksman (later Axman) brought my grandmother, Sarah Frankel (nee Geller) to the U.S. in 1914. She was his niece as he was my great-grandmother, Brancia's, brother.
I believe that Abraham had 4 sons. I remember meeting the oldest Jack Oxman as a child and there was also a Nat Axman. I met Abraham's wife Menicha too when she was very old. The family came from Demidowka in presnt-day Ukraine. They lived in Brooklyn. We are putting together a family tree and would love to hear from any of Abrhaham's descendants.

Bill, I might have some information that is useful. My family came from Demydivka which is close to Dubno, and also from Radzivillow (less than 20 miles away, and Beresteczko, about 10 mines away, all of which are located in what is now the Ukraine. My grandfather was named Ochsman and first came to the US in 1904. again in 1914,and very likely at other times, as he visited his family back in what is now the Ukraine. Please feel free to contact me.

Hi Bill & hsccol

We've just discovered that Grandma's maiden name was Oxman or Ochsmann, not Osman as we've always thought so I'm really excited to find your postings, especially Bill's. Grandma was Sarah Faigel Ochsmann, daughter of Avraham Mendel & Frieda Ochsmann. I believe he was a furrier and they lived in Starokonstantinoff in the Ukraine. Sarah was born in 1875, married very young (Nathan Bradman, earlier Brandman),came to the UK & had a large family. We know that her brother Wolf came to visit her here in 1903 to break the news that her mother had died. Sarah herself died in 1953. Please email me at family.regan@btinternet.com if you have any related information to share. Many thanks
