Rose,

It's been quite a while since your initial posting, but I thought I'd follow up and let you know that I have also been researching this family. Johanne (John) Oyer was my 5th great grandfather through both sons John and Jacob. Besides the direct line and immediate family, I've also works a little bit on the branchings. I list Johanne's father as another Johanne, but I don't really trust the source on that one. The results of my research can be viewed on my web site at www.hansenhome.us/familyhistory/ in the Schrock branch.

I would be very interested in exchanging information with you about this family.

Hi Merle, I am your 4th cousin once removed according to my Family Tree maker File. According to my information I believe I have a wrong death date for Katie (Katherine Oyer daughter of Christian Oyer and Katherine Zehr) your grandmother. I have March 10, 1960. Please let me know the correct date for my files. I also have more than four children listed for Levi and Katie. According to my files I have a set of twin boys born on 5/31/1919. Ellis and Elwood. Ellis passed away on 2/20/1920, and Elwood passed away same day as his birth. Please let me know if this information is true.
I have Raymond 3/20/1911, June 7/28/1915, Ralph 5/27/1917, Ellis and Elwood 5/31/1919, Velma 6/14/1920 and a baby born and passed away on 6/13/1927.
Thanks, Rose Oyer Gauthier
ps. I do not know if we have been in touch already, as I have been away from my deeper geneaolgy study for more than 2 years.

Hi am researching the Oyer History starting from Johanne (John) Oyer b. abt. 1745. He and his two sons and two daughters sailed to New Orleans from Le Havre in October 1830 on the Ship "Superior". They arrived on 12-4-1830. The Family continued on to New York and arrived 12-21-1830. Johanne was age 85.
The sons names were Jacob age 49 and Joseph age 54. His grandsons names were Joseph age 10 days, Joseph 16, Peter 11, Christian 10, John 13, Andrew 6, David 1. He also had several grand daughters. My relation was to Joseph (16)b. 1776, his son John b. 1816, his son Joseph b. 1845, his son John. b.1876, his son Floyd b. 1898, his son Alvin was my father. Any family links would be great.

Hi, I have never been able to put the two Oyer families together. It would probably mean a trip to Alsace Lorraine, France, or Sweden/Switzerland. They were called the Swiss Mennonites. Chances of the two Johannes being related are good. I am finding out that the surname Oyer may be the name of the farmlwnd where the family originated. This of course would comlicate matters. I am using a different computer, and do not ahve all my information. But my family came through New Orleans and then New York, and settled in Tazewell county, Ohio in 1830s. They came on the ship Superior first and continued from New Orleans on the ship DeRahm.
Hi Dale, Katie (Katherine) and Levi were maried in 1910. I do have the exact date. In case someone else on the Birkey side with closer ties to this couple may wish to have this.
Katie (Katherine) was born in 1892, died in ?. Levi was born in 1884, and died in 1951. They had 7 children from 1911- 1927. Katie had a sister named Elizabeth who married a man named Joseph D. Birkey. Katie also had a brother named Peter Oyer. I have her parents names, and I have assumed that Levi and Joseph were brothers. In my family tree maker she shows up as my second cousin three times removed.I would love to see this certificate, but I feel there may be closer family members who may want to have it as he died only in the 50s.There may be granchildren who would love to own this. Thank you so much for posting this information. Rose Oyer Gauthier

Dale,
These are my grandparents and I have talke to other grandchildren and we would be interested in seeing these documents. Levi died in 1951 from cancer and Katie died in 1959. My mother was Velma, the youngest child who passed away in 1984. There were 4 children, Ray, Ralph, June, and my mother.

I'm looking for information on the Oyer family. I have traced Johann Frederich Oyer who had Peter Oyer in Schuyler, NY, who had Henry , who had George Henry in Williamstown, who had Anson Beardsley Oyer in Williamstown, who had another George Henry in Williamstown, who had my father Thomas who, of course, had me.I wanted to see exactly how far out the Oyer family went, why the first letter of the last name changed twice and what cemetaries I could look in for more information. I have been to the Williamstown Cemetary and the one in schyler where Peter is. There are a few more Oyers in the Schuyler Cemetary that don't exactly fit into the small tree I have. If anyone can give me some info, I'd appreciate it. I will gladly give the info I already have if anyone wants it.
Shaun Oyer

I too am a descendant of Michael Oyer (Eyer) and his wife Doretha Koch. I'd love to find more information on this family. I've tried to e-mail Sheila Casper but the message was returned....non-deliverable. I'd love to get in touch with her!
