I can't help you with his parents, but I believe Samuel Oyster born 20 Oct 1826 might be related to Hannah Oyster Deitrich.
He is living with George Deitrich and his wife Hannah. My great great grandparents.
1850>PA>Schuylkill>Branch Twp>image 58
Could they be brother and sister? I would appreciate your thoughts.
I lived near & worked with Clifford Oyster in Harrisburg, Pa. He passed away around Thanksgiving of 2003, I think. He had a son & daughter, Scott & Tonya. The last I heard his son was living in Cliffords house on 4th street in Harrisburg. If I can be of any further help please let me know. He lived on the same street as my husband, & his sister ( Pam? ) used to babysit for my husbands sisters when they were kids. They grew up on the same street, & Clifford lived in his familys home till his death.
Oyster, William (1854-1930): KY --> WA --> Bakersfield, CA

Need help figuring out a Reimer/Oyster puzzle. William Oyster, a former Bakersfield police officer and Kern County (CA) deputy sheriff, was born 5/7/1854 in KY and died 11/22/1930 in Bakersfield. According to William's death certificate from Kern County, CA, his parents were William Oyster and Nancy Ellen Reimer. The certificate claims both the parents were born in Germany. However, it appears that William (the son) had also been a police officer in Colfax City, Whitman County, WA during the 1880 census (and prior to arriving in California). The census records indicate William's parents were both born in KY, not Germany. Would love any additional information and/or assistance on this family group!

As additional information, William (the son) married Margaret Ellen "Madge" Burres (3/6/1862-3/16/1943), daughter of Noah and Lucy Burres of Stockton. Madge and William had two daughters, Lucy (Oyster) McGregor and Ellen (Oyster) Hamilton. William (the son) was a prominent Mason, having been in the organization for over 50 years at the time of his death. Madge was a member of Caledonia Chapter 391, Order of Eastern Star, and had been a member for 62 years, holding the longest membership in that order of any member then living in Kern county. She received her 50-year pin in the 1930's.

Would appreciate any and all assistance!

Oyster Origin

The Eyster in our lineage is from Germany. Somehow the german pronounciation of the word left English spellings of Eiister, Eyster, Oyster, and Euster (with and without an omlet above the "u") in wills, deeds, census's, etc.

I am searching for the family of Eister and came across your note. I am sorry that you are having such a tough time with your dad. The only suggestion I can give you is that if you know where he lives, and have his address, try and write to him.
Tell him how you feel, ask him if he would mind if you questioned him about family history and who your grandparents were. Maybe instead of a meeting, he could write down the information and mail it to you. Make a list of questions and leave a
blank space where he can fill in the answers. Make a duplicate set for yourself. If he can't use your home address, use a friends address. But ask first if they would mind.
If he does not respond to you. Try an Aunt, Uncle or somone else in the family... At least keep trying....

Call All Oysters ....

David Eyster here. My old computer recently died and I lost my electronic address book that had email addresses of folks I had been communicating with regarding the extended Oyster/Eyster family tree. If you have been waiting to hear from me, I apologize. Drop me a line and let's get things going again. For other folks working on or related to an Oyster and/or Eyster, I have a rather extensive database through which I am attempting to track all descendants (and their spouses) of John Jacob Aister (Oyster), the original Oyster/Eyster ancestor in America. I would love to hear from anyone out there who is interested in and/or connected to the Eyster/Oyster/Eister family tree.

C. David Eyster
Roseville, CA
eyster@rcsis.com

P.S. Thank goodness for backups. When the computer went down, my heart dropped into my stomach, fearing I had lost my Oyster/Eyster database (16,000+ individuals). However, I found a backup that had been created two days prior and no new entries had been made in the intervening 48 hours. Yahoo!
Hello,Ronald...
I am replying to your post on RootsWeb message board about Oyster/Eyster.
I have an Abraham Eyster, who married a Christina, last name unknown, birthdates unknown. They had a son,Samuel Eyster, born 1834 and died 1888.He married Sarah, last name unknown. Sarah was born in 1848,and died I believe in 1877. Samuel and Sarah had 3 known daughters. Ida F. Eyster was born 1871.
Anna Elizabeth Eyster was born 1877 and died 1950.(My Grandmother)
Sarah(Sadie) Eyster,birthdate unknown
There may have been more children, but I've found only 3.
Samuel Eyster was married a second time to Emily Nermith in 1888.Unfortunately Samuel died later that same summer. I can't find any record of Emily after Samuel's death.
If you think our Eyster/Oyster families could be connected,I'd like to hear from you.
Sincerely,
J.
Dear Norma --

The earliest record of the name Oyster
is from a deed reference in Phila., PA in
1717 by a Jacob Oyster. The family name
seems to have originated in Germany and came
to the 'New World' quite early. My great-
grandfather spelled our name Oyster until
1895, why the change, I don't know, but my
own search needs more information to fill
in lots of blanks.
Could you please provide dates of birth,
marriage, death, children, home towns of
anyone named Oyster/Oister so that I can
continue with the family tree.
I have placed two posts previously on this
board, and can be reached by email at --
pagesnorth@earthlink.net or my FAX line
610-458-7281.
family history

In the history books my father left to me,
the author lists the family name as Oyster
and Oister. This family came to the Swedes
Church area of Philadelphia, PA and Wilmington,
DE to own land and support Indentured Slaves
coming to the new world. (my research leads
me to believe the family name was high German
traveling thru England with the Swedes)
My father -- Charles Oister, Jr. 1915-1980
was Principal at Abington,PA. My grandfather
--Charles Oister 1888-1950 was a carpenter/
coal miner/singer in Taylor, PA. My great-
grandfather -- John Oister 18??-1905 was a
blacksmith in the Taylor, Scranton area. He
served in the Civil War as Oister but kept
the family Bible as Oyster until 1895.

I am beginning my own research on our history
and if you can add anything, I would be most
appreciative. Please contact me at my email
address. Thank you.
