Hello, yes I think we may be related, everything ties in with information I have in my family tree.
My dad was John William Desmond Packer 1932-2011.
He was the son of William Henry Packer 1906-1975 who married Alice Williams 1908-1998.
Williams dad was another John Packer 1858-1926 who married Alma Western 1862-1912.
Johns father was another (your) John Packer1804- ? who married Elizabeth Dunsford 1809- ? .
They were the parents of Sarah and in 1881 John and Elizabeth were living next door to Sarah and Robert with her brother and family (John)at 105,Pitt Street, Silverton, Devon, England. You can Google Earth it to see where it used to be.
When did Robert decide to go to America, how adventurous and brave. Did he take any of the children, apart from Harry with him? Did Robert marry again. Who were your parents?
I should love to here from you and maybe exchange some information we've collected.

John Packer of Buckinghamshire

Recently I received an email from John Packer of Buckinghamshire England who said he has seen a posting of mine from 2002 regarding my Packer lineage. I am hoping it was here on Rootsweb that he saw it. He was a direct descendant of Stephen Packer who married Mary Seath. I responded to him but my email was returned as his address was incorrect. I have tried variations of it but have had no luck in contacting him again. Hopefully he will read this and write again. In the meantime has anyone else heard from him and could provide me with the correct email address? I believe his ISP is plus.com of which I am not familiar

Annie Carroll married Alfred Joseph Packer at St Marylebone London on 2/3/1874. Her father is given as Patrick (deceased) a Farmer. I cant find a suitable Annie or Patrick in the UK censuses of 1861/1871. At marriage she is described as underage so born betwween 1853-59. After the marriage neither show in any BMD or census record but there is an Alfred Joseph & Annie Packer (UK born) in Ontario in 1881 and about the right age. Anybody share them?

In 1891 there is an Edith Mary aged 9 (so not right but could be a transcription error) at 97 King St Ramsgate, born Ramsgate as were her parents Elizabeth aged 50 and George 55 occupation Carman. Seems to be the only fit, but it is a bit ambiguous as they are listed after a couple of lodgers named Pilcher and "" put against Ediths surname. Ancestry have chosen to record it as Packer, I think it is Pilcher. In 1901 Edith Mary Packer is a servant at Wrotham House St Peters to a Mrs Clara Curtis. Try posting on either Rootschat in the Kent lookups or Kent History Forum in the family History section

I agree with you about "any name'll do". Searching for Moses I found a Packer site that had a mother of a Joseph as 8 years old and also everyone of some 7 kids born in a different county all over the country, not impossible these days but rather unlikely in the 1600s. Just realised Minety is on the Gloucester/Wilts border (about 3 miles) so have tried a post on a Glos. page

Thank you so much for helping. It was a long shot but it was a lead none the less, just not a good one it seems. I have found over the last month or so that there are some pretty sloppy reports on the internet. People seem to "find" someone with the same name they are looking for and just "assume" it is their relative. The don't confirm it. Again, THANK YOU for your help.

Thank you for the reply. I am looking for "Moses" Packer. He just shows up in Pennsivania in 1820 legal documents. It was reported by a neighbor that he was from Mintey Wiltshire (thanks for the spelling correction). But, maybe not. This geneology research is such a rollercoaster of emotions, new information - high hopes then a dead end. My grandmother was an orphan and used 2 different spellings of her last name and would never talk about her childhood..... can you say dead end again. Anyway, thank you SO much for your reply. If you every run across a Moses Packer or can send me to a different research site..... thanks

Ed Packer

Mary Packer of NY

I'm searching for information about the origins of my 3rd great grandmother, Mary Packer (b. ca 1873, NY & d. 1885 in Deposit, Delaware County, NY. She married Frederick Herrick (b. ca 1788 in MA) sometime in the 1820s & eventually moved to Deposit where they had 3 children: John Frederick (b. 1832), Henrietta (b. 1836) & Ellen (b. 1840). Henrietta married Ezra S Burrows in 1854.

I have a theory that Mary Packer may be from Albany & her father may be Jesse Packer (b. 1765). I think Mary & her husband Frederick left a daughter, Sarah Marie Herrick (b 1829) in Albany before they moved to Deposit. This is based on census records & Sarah Marie Herrick's obituary from Albany. (Sarah Marie was married to George Quay)

If anyone has information to share, please let me know.
Thanks!
Aline

I am just getting back into researching my Packer roots after a year away.I have traced my paternal line back to a basket-maker in Margate,Kent named Edward Packer(b.1812)-He married a Charlotte Sandom,a baker from Margate(b.1804).They had a son Elijah(born 1831)and another, Edward(b.1834)-Elijah had a son,Elijah Thomas Packer, who was my g-grandfather.He retired from the Navy and emigrated to Canada with his wife and my 3-year old grandfather.Do you think these are the same people-the names are so similar, the years slightly off.And both Edwards being Kentish basket-makers?I would be interested in sharing info,if you wish.I seem to have gotten slightly stuck with Edward Packer and wife Charlotte nee Sandom. Btw,I also have Packer blood on the maternal side.My mother's g-grandmother was a Packer, but from the SE of England,Plymouth or Bristol,or maybe both. Thanks,Patrick Packer.(London,Canada)
