Sorry it took so long to respond but here goes:
Benjamin F Paddock/Paddack (I am noting the change in spelling as his tombstone states Paddack) b 1816 Cincinnati d 1878 Montgomery, In
Charles Coleman Paddock/Paddack b 1857 Center In d 1945 Los Angeles Ca (Grandpa's wife died in 1911 and he remarried Lucretia (nee Proud) who turned out to be his second cousin, they had no children and spent the rest of his life together in Cali.
Claude Raymond Paddock ( he went back to the "ock") b 1883 Linden, In d 1932 Fort Worth Texas (the 1930 census shows Grandma Olen in Spokane but she is listed as a widow and he is in Fort Worth listed as divorced, makes a peson go hmmm)
Charles Albert Paddock/Paddack (my Dad) b 1908 Linden In, d 1958 Chicago Il. He too went by "ack" whereas both of his brothers went by "ock". My birth cert and my sisters both show "ack".
In any event hope this helps, knowing that Samuel was a captain sure makes for a wonderful "story" perhaps someone will have information on thier journey. This has been a wonderful few years and I feel I have just begun.
Have a great day.
Peace,
The Chuckster

For those that don't fully understand how it works, it can only be done by a MALE with the Paddock last name. The Y DNA is only passed down from Paddock Father to Son. Daughters cannot take this test even if you have Paddock as your last name. So any male Paddock can do this test.

There appears to be no Paddock Family Tree Project right now(there are only three Paddock names who have or are doing the test) so anyone interested should join this project (Project Pending http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=Project_P... )to get a reduced rate for the test(s).

As already noted, Y37 is where you need to start. You can go up in the search by doing the Y67 or Y111 tests at a later date if the need arises.

I use familytreedna.com .They are the largest and have the biggest database. I did the Y Chromosome for males only and the MtDNA for both women and men. I did the 37 markers, which is where you get the most "bang for the buck". You can do the Y test if you use a test supplied by a brother or your father.

Thank you so much. I have gradually found all the information that you have sent and in fact copied the obituary on the findagrave site myself. Now I am puzzled as to where Loretta was buried. Her body was sent back from Washington to be buried in Wadena, but I could not find her in the Wadena Cemetery. A wonderful volunteer from Wadena took a picture of Lauren's grave for me.

you mentioned missing ... i have asked several times about a journal named the Ebenezer Carlisle Paddock journal and was supposedly in the Historical Museum Library in Bardstown but no one has seen it ... there are inherent problems with the name as there was no ebenezer in washington co but there were carlisle's who married into paddock family, all of which are descendents of william ... i suspect if it existed it was an attempt to document early paddocks and came to the erroneous conclusion that ebenezer was born in yarmouth in 1707 and connected to the paddocks of ky

You know, one of the most troublesome gaps that I've found in my search for more information about this family is just what you pointed out. I have been unable to find any information about a "Hand" family. I have the town and church records that should provide some clues to her family - nothing. I think Alice Crane Williams' article is right on - I was most interested in the discussion of family records and stories in Kentucky. Unless someone appears one day with a 'missing' family bible etc, it looks like this is one that cannot ever be proven with documentary evidence.

So I'm interested in any information any researchers have acquired on the Hand family. Who were they and Where were they?

Lynne
the "offending" article can be found at http://www.americanancestors.org/descendants-of-reuben-paddo... .... i don;t know where 2 years came from but her conclusions have been known for some time ... i don't know why people persist in linking to reuben of mass when there is no evidence other than faith

i have far more information than mss williams on the three Paddock "brothers" and still there is no documentation which suggests a link ... most of my information is from penn and ky beginning i believe in 1768 ... jonathan paddock was a captain in the penn militia (have to read the pension apps to get this) and later became a preacher ... a lot is known of ebenezer after he left ky and some is known about william.

william is the one of most interest as if there is a connection he may provide the clues. sometime about 1795 there was a reuben paddock listed in tax records for 2 years ... the first as minor the second as an adult ... the records stop so any speculation is valid as speculation ... this record is associated with william paddock so one conclusion is reuben is some how connected to william ... the other piece of information is a couple of records for a widow paddock dated about 1800. This could refer to the mother of william or wife of reuben etc

the connecting tissue is the morman baptisms ... i have found no records of a connection between ebenezer and william or jonathan but have records which suggest jonathan and william were associated.

be aware of the border issue between maryland/virginia/penn as some records are in augusta dist va ... there is little doubt the three were in penn during time period and there is little doubt they were peripatetic in ky except ebenezer who moved to nelson co and remained there until he moved to ohio

one researcher claimed william served at king's mt but i have not found such a record

o btw i did not find a Hand family living in the Yarmouth area ... from the baptism there was mentioned a brother-in-law Hand to Keziah ... she may be using a loose interpretation of bil but there are no hands i have found (there are some early records in ky but very few)

anyway if you find something you get the feather in your cap

Bob - GO FOR IT!! Lots of us have been trying for some time to define the life of Reuben Paddock - and the marriages. I have gone through the town and county records for that time period without success, so I hope you can do better. I'm sure you have or at least have seen Curfman's take - and no other genealogist that I have seen has offered more than assumptions and guesses. While you are looking, if there is any way I can help, let me know. I have to go to the Sacramento Family History Library tomorrow and I'll check again. And I'll be watching here for jubilant reports of your success.

Lynne
http://www.lynnesgenealogy.com

Dear Stan, my name is Bob Liston, and I have submitted an application to the California Mayflower based on the connection from Alden-Paddock-Drake-Liston. They informed me in June that that line is no longer accepted because of an article written two years ago by an historian named Ms. Alicia Crane Williams. They have asked me to prove that Ebenezer Paddock married Keziah Case, that Ebenezer was the son of Reuben Paddock and Rebecca Hand. They are requiring written documentations for births, deaths, marriages, etc., for both generations. You indicated in your post that you had information, etc., on them.

Any data you have would be appreciated by me and others who have or will have an issue proving the Benezer is in-deed a Mayflower ancestor.

thanks for your time, Bob

Hi, my name is Bob Liston, and I am currently in Salt Lake City on a three week research trip. Several months ago I submitted an application to the California Mayflower Society. They responded saying that the line I submitted was accepted until an article was published about two years ago saying there was no written proof for two generations. They suggested I go to SLC and look around or to New England. I have had no succes over the first two weeks. The question is whether Judah Paddock, 1681-1770, and Alice Alden's, 1686 -1774, son Reuben Paddock, 1707-, lived to an adult and marries Rebecca Hand, 1718-. And, one of thier sons was Ebenezer Paddock,1735-1830, and he married Keziah Case,1754-1820. And, their daughter Sarah Paddock, 1776-1818, marries James Drake, 1778-1865.

If I find the wriiten documentation for births, marriages, deaths, etc., for Reuben and Ebenezer, I will then be able to have the connection from Aldens-Paddocks-Drakes-Listons.

Any infomation that you might have to assist me or give me directions to search would be appreciated.

thanks for your time, Bob

I am looking for the grave sites of Lauren Paddock b 1837 died 1900 and his wife Loretta Norton Paddock who died in 1916 in Puyallup Washington. Her body was shipped from Washington to Minnesota, but I cant find them. Lauren's first wife Olive and his father Thomas J Paddock were buried in Riverside Cemetery in Dodge but there is no listing for Lauren Austin Paddock and Loretta Norton Paddock in this cemetery

Milan
I'd love to see the photo of the tombstone.
They are buried in Barber Kansas:
Paddock (Haas) Cemetery, Medicine Lodge, Barber,Ks
I have George married to Charlotte M or R Ferguson. It doesn't surprise me that she is SR on the tombstone. (Typical of all my branch of the family.) (I couldn't read the initial) I have 21 Feb 1851 or 1853 Indiana for her birth date. George W was born Feb 1827 in Vigo, Indiana.
I can't remember where I read the story of the family drowning crossing some river. I'll see if I can find it.
Here is a link:http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ksbarber/cem_paddock.html

I have been trying to find information on a (supposed) 5th great aunt of mine whose portrait I have. It was painted in 1824 and she looks approximately 30 years old, so I imagine she was born around 1790. It was painted by artist Jarvis Hanks (or Hawks) who apparently painted in New York and Ohio at that time. I did find a Ruhama Marshall who married Anthony Paddock, but Anthony was born 1736 so the ages wouldn't work out (unless she was MUCH younger than he). Any information on this woman would be greatly appreciated!

Michael Carney
michaelcarney@me.com

any number of reasons but primarily from poor research and the perpetuation of that poor research ... it is not a reflection of the GS as they accumulate as much information as possible and sometimes they accumulate poor research which is up to the reader to decide it's validity

i think the article makes my point even though she based it primarily only on the curfman source, even with the additional documentation i have, it still doesn't link the KY Paddocks to Mass

BTW there are a lot more early records of the Paddock's in PA and KY than she insinuates
i am sorry lynne but i am being hypercritical of curfman ... he does not make it clear enough on 56-57 as many people cite this as documentation ... here are the sources curfman uses for Paddock's among others
WdG-Letter, Mrs. Glenda Wood, Monticello, Utah 2 July 1974.
PdkHL-Harry Paddock, Walker
PdkHL-Dr. Harriet Louise Paddock, Ph.D.Ed. Indianapolis,Ind.
StpRP-Robert Paddock Stapp,Grand Blanc, Mich., "from Old Family Bible."
LCII-Portrait and Biographical Record of Lee County. Ill. (Chicago 1892).
BMSE-Biographical Matter, Statistics, Etc. (H.H. Hill & Co. Chicago, 1881) •
CIC--Cole County 1885.
Ogle-Ogle County History· (1886).

did you notice any primary sources??? nope i didn't either

so here is the one source of the connection

Keziah Paddock Hendrickson for
William Paddox, her father
Sarah Paddox, her mother
Rebecca Paddox, her grandmother
Reuben Paddox, her grandfather
Jonathan Paddox, her uncle
______ Hand, her great grandfather
______ Hand, her grandmother
This refers to the Rebecca Hand family whom no one has found.
______ Hand, her brother-in-law
It is unknown to whom this refers.

Jordan P. Hendrickson for
Reuben Paddox, his uncle
______ Little, his great grandfather
______ Little, his great grandmother
Refers to Sarah Little, wife of William Paddock.
Ebenezer Paddox, NO relationship given

from original baptismal document (sent by P Arnold)my transcription and comments

further comment: the baptismal record dates from 1841

the first Reuben is not the second Reuben ... there is a Rueben in Ky in 1795-1796 who is 21 but i suspect he died soon after records as i have not been able to find him mentioned later ... jordan could not have known Reuben if he had died but may be listing him as an uncle ... i have included this Reuben in my lineage as a possible son of William. there is a couple of records of a widow Paddock in Mercer county KY same Co as William dated about 1800 ... it is not clear to whom is referred so will not speculate

there are no ebenezer's in either Jonathan or William Paddock's lines (that I remember) ... further i have found no record of any contact ebenezer may have had with either in KY ... Ebenezer moved to Ohio about 1800

presumably the Hands mentioned are in the context of Paddocks and so suggest the Hands are in that lineage

i searched the Mass Co where Reuben lived and found no Hands ... it could be simply a misunderstanding of names ... certainly the widow Paddock if she was the mother of William could have told her story to William's children

note: curfman mentioned a Watson Paddock. I suspect a conflation of people involved in that lineage as i have tracked one of the children and he had no relation to Watson but rather to Jonathan

I have been researching Paddocks for some time almost exclusively from primary sources and have found previously unknown Paddock's related to the KY Paddock's and have found some missing Paddock;s

but as you mentioned you didn't find anything new ... well i suspect no one is looking in the right places ... i suspected NJ was a good place as by 1775 all tree Paddock's were in western PA which had only opened up a few years previously but paucity of source material shunted that search ... many people cite birth places as MD, PA or VA but one must consider the time and that the border between the three was not fixed so one say any of the three or their preference and be right but still offers no leads to Mass

ray
Yes I have the connections to all those you mentioned. But did not know about Sarah Palin. A lot of my investigations is done by census and then though the records at the RLDS . Of course after the 1920's you have to get records from the city or counties. A lot I have looked up in the Wikipedia encyclopedia. I hope to get to the Independence Genelogy library this week.

You can find Reuben Paddock married to Rebecca Hand in a multitude of places - unfortunately there isn't a shred so far as I know of evidence that proves it. I'm sure that the information you found was from an ancestral file or compiled genealogy produced by someone else - unsourced. And repeated and repeated and repeated in a million other compiled genealogies. The problem is that there don't seem to be any original records - of any kind - that state that he married her - or where or when.

There is a town record that clearly states that Reuben Paddock was born on 27 Dec 1707 - AND that his parents were Judah and Alice Paddock of Yarmouth. We KNOW that from an original record. Unfortunately we haven't found anything that states the same for his marriage - or the births of his many attributed children. Not saying they don't exist - just haven't found them.

Lynne

Au contraire - if you check Curfman, he is VERY careful to suggest that all of the Reuben Paddock information he has is very iffy - he committed to very little - the most that most researchers will swear to is that little bit of material that is found in town records - original records - same with Curfman - he was very clear that 99% of the material found on pp 56, 57 in his book concerning Reuben Paddock and his marriage and his family was unproven. Particularly the part that carried into Kentucky. In fact, of the whole page and a half - the only thing he seems to be sure of, concerning the familial relationships, is that Reuben Paddock had a son, Reuben Paddock, wh married Hannah Hall. Period.

This is why I keep asking researchers for citations - and unfortunately most are just copying from one another. No one seems to have found any trustworthy records to prove one thing or another - and the fact that nothing in the Massachusetts town records after the birth (that I have found as of yet, I should add) leads one to assume that he - or his family - moved out of the area.

After the messages today, I went back to four or five good sources on the internet (NYGBS, NEHGS, etc) and found nothing, so since I last looked, nothing new seems to have turned up.

Lynne
