I did some research on PAIS. There are Pais in Holland who are of Portuguese origin. They are Jewish.
I had contact with a Pais in the Ukraine and noticed that there are also Pais living in Romania. I was wondering if the latter are of Jewish origin. Do you know? Do you know where the Romanian Pais came from?

Do you know?
In the 1910 census our last name was spelled POESCH.
Lazar Pais was Nicolai's brother who came with him in 1903 or 1904. He also went back to Romania & came back to the US in 1914. He left again and stayed in Romania. Do you know anything else about him in Romania?
Also, do you know anything about Mary Mitchell's family in Romania?
Thank you for any help you can give me.

I am new to this website, but the name Pais Becher caught my eye. I recently recieved some papers about my ancestors, and my grandparents were Thomas and Mary Pais. On one of the papers my grandfather signed his name using Pais Becher. I'm wondering if you have any information on them. Thomas died around 1969, and Mary around 1985. They came from Auronzo, Italy and settled in Crosby, PA. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

My grandfather, Nicolai Pais and his brother Lazur, left Romania and came to the United States in 1903. They settled in Lorain County, Ohio. Lazur returned to Romania in 1904 or 1905. Nicolai's wife, Mary Mitchell, and young son, Nick, came to America in 1905. I still have family in Bucarest.
I would like to find out more about my family if I can. Thank you.
