Searching for info on John(b.1803 in PA)and Frances (b.1809 in PA). Last name of Frances might have been Wilson because that name has permeated down through the generations. Their first child, Laura Jane, was born in Chautaque County, NY, about 1830. The couple shortly thereafter moved to Allen County, Ohio, and had several more children (James, William,Nancy, Elizabethh, Mary, Philenda). Around 1860 they settled in Schuyler County, IL. I am trying make a connection to John or Frances' family in the PA/OH area.

Paisley, William James b c1801, Ire d 1888 Ontario, Canada m Mary Barnet Gibson

I am trying to find the birth place of my gggrandfather, William James Paisley. Also, his parents names and siblings, in my dreams. He married Mary Barnet Gibson b 1810, Ireland. Their first child was Mary Jane Paisley b1832, Antrim, Ireland. This family was presbyterian.

I was given great advice, find Gibson & Paisley names in records of the same church or ?. So the effort had been on any church records or documentation in Antrim that has Gibson & Paisley. Haven't had much luck. However, I found Barnet & Gibson families in Lisburn, Antrim which is next door to Belfast. I know there were Paisleys in Belfast.

Since this family emigrated to Canada around 1840, I assume there may not be much in the way of documentation.

Any advise is so greatly appreciated.

Lost in records, Ann

Paisley, Crocket Hector b1877, Iowa

This is an interesting search. I found Crocket Hector Paisley on a search for my Wallace descendants.

To add to the mystery, my Margaret Wilson Wallace b1829, Scotland married James Patton b1817, Ireland. They lived in Goderich, Ontario, Canada. One of their children was Sarah Patton who married WILLIAM JOHN PAISLEY b1847, Smiths Falls, Ontario.

Back to Crocket Hector Paisley, he was a lawyer and stayed in the town he was born. The earliest census has him in Richland, Story Iowa living with Elwood Furnas and his wife Elizabeth. They are farmers and no info on Crocket other than occupying space at that home.

I found census following that gives Crockets father as Ben Posley b1850, Illinois (Pasley) & Mary E Graver.

I was researching my Wallace line that started in Scotland/Goderich, Ont, Canada/Buchanan Iowa. A Wallace married a Little/Little married Gemmel/Gemmel married Paslay?

Was this really a Paisley that was given up and the Wallace/Patton line was the connection?

Any takers?

Two of the participants are descendants of William Paisley of Tyrone Co, Ireland and Guilford Co NC. It is believed that William's orphaned nephew John Paisley is the ancestor to the Paisley's in Ashe Co NC. The DNA test could confirm the connection. I am the coordinator of the Paisley DNA project.
William M Paisley, Caswell Co, NC 25 Apr 1842 - 1891, John A. Paisley abt 1868-???

I am trying to find out any information on William McLean Paisley. I know from census's and a civil war record that he was born on 25 Apr 1842 but then he died 1891. I am trying to find out why he died so young. Also, any stories about him. Anything at all!! He had a wife named Emma E. Butler and 2 kids John A Paisley (my ggg grandpa) and William B. Paisley.
John A. Paisley married Annie E. Smith and they had 3 children. Clarence, Lawrence and Eva. Clarence was adopted and then fell off the map for a while. Heard he changed his name to Jack Hardy and moved to Joplin, Mo. Lawrence was trackable but Eva my ggg grandma was not so much and neither was her mother Annie Smith. Who was she and what happened to her? Was told she died giving birth to Eva but have not found anything to back that up. By the time Eva was 4 and Lawrence was 9 they were living with an aunt and uncle named Charles and Cordila Thomason in Arkansas. Were they the brother or sister of mother or father? What happened to their father? Why did he leave them?

Sorry if this is confusing but it's about that confusing in my head! This has been a wild goose chase!

If anyone can shed some light on this it would be incredibly helpful!! Thank you!

You really don't have much to go on but I am working hard on uncovering my own Paisley family mysteries and I have some Paisley's in Texas, Illinois, Arkansas and North Carolina so if I come across anything I will post it here. I have had similar struggles with my Paisley family so it must have been a thing with them or it could have been the same people. My timeline doesn't match up yet though...don't give up!

I have a copy of Joseph Paisley's marriage record from the Registry Office. He married Ann Douglas on Dec. 15, 1845 in the Parish of St. Mary's Carlisle. Witnesses were Andrew Douglas and Martha Thompson. He seems to have been married twice. There were 1/2 sisters. The 1841 Census says he was born about 1826. He died after 1872.
The record lists his father as John Paisley. John lived at John St. Lonsdale Lane in Carlisle in 1841. Joseph Paisley, age 15 and John Paisley age 48. There were quite a few children also. John Tomlinson age 30 and Hector Paisley age 40 also lived in the household. I dont' really know anything more about John.
Bonnie

Selina's mother was Jane Paisley who died in Carlisle in 1905. She fell on an icy street and suffered a skull fracture. Her parents were Joseph Paisley and Ann Douglas. Joseph's father was John Paisley.
Thanks for the help.
Bonnie

Hi, I have been researching the Paisley family in North Cumbria for a few years.
We have a William Paisley who was born circa 1795 at Abbeytown which is a few miles west of Carlisle. He was my fiancee's 3 x great grandfather. I have quite a detailed tree with his decendants on. The family was and still is farming.
There are Paisleys in Carlisle / Longtown / Gretna areas but they appear to be a totally different family.
I have never been able to verify William's birth or his marriage to Mary Birbeck.
Thomlinson as I expect you know is a common local name.
Sarah

Hi - I'm glad to hear from you. I know Elizabeth and Ellwood (or did he go by Spencer?) had three children, Ellwood Jr., Patricia, and Judith. Which one of these is your parent? I'd like to get dates and children for this line. If you are interested in the Usinger line, I have a lot of genealogy for this family back to the 1700's. I'm happy to share...please email me at grubej@earthlink.net.

Jan

Hi Noreen,

I have seen this family before, but it is a different family altogether. Not to say that they are not connected in some way, but they are different families. Our James Paisley married Mary Barnett Gibson in Ireland and the couple had their first four children before coming to Canada about 1842.

Thanks for your interest,

Jack

Unknown Paisley birth father to my Grandfather

My grandfather, the late Robert Lee Barker (1932-1976) was devastated to learn at a late age that his father was not really his father. My great grandmother never told him (or otherwise the remaining family doesn't recall) the man's first name, just that he was really a Paisley and not a Barker.

This caused some trouble in his life, and in turn it caused trouble in my Dad's life, because he himself didn't learn of this "family secret" until his father, my grandfather had died from leukemia in 1976.

My grandmother has been in a home due to the effects of dementia so there is no one left to ask. Both my great grandparents (grandmother and adopted grandfather) have passed away. No one even recalls what my great grandmother's given name was because she died before my Dad, aunt and uncles were old enough to really know her and my adopted great grandfather remarried much later on in life.

I'm trying to find any information I can on a Paisley male that may have had a wife in North Carolina in the 1930's (most likely Ashe County) and who may or may not have known about his son born there.

It is unclear also at this point whether or not my grandfather was legally adopted or if they just gave him the Barker family name after their marriage.

I've got nothing much to work with at this time, my grandfather died before I was born and my grandmother didn't like talking about it when she was in good health because it was "scandalous." I can't continue searching into my past unless I can figure out who my great grandfather really is.

Sarah

I have recently unearthed a photograph of Rose Emily Moody who was the wife of William James Paisley and mother of Rose, Constance etc, if you are interested, happy to send.

Do you have any photos of William James Paisley ? I could write back to Roy and ask him. Of all my great-grandparents, this is the only missing photo.

Roy provided me with info on the Paisley's going back to Selkirk in the borders - come to think of it I'm sure he mentioned that the source of most of that information was from the Biddescombe's - just dug his letter out - he mentions Peter and Roy (in America ?).

Regards

Colin

Re: William James Paisley - Gone missing 1920

Colin,
Thanks for the message, I too found the shipping records and those to Bermuda too and concluded that it must be the same William James Paisley that we are after tracing. No other William J Paisleys were born in the same year or had anything to do with ships. Would love to know what happened after 1923, so definately more research needed. I don't get to spend much time on family history as I have 3 school age kids to look after and run around after, but love it, when I get a chance.
My daughter who is now 10 is called Rose after her ggrandmother who she got to meet quite a few times up until her death a few years ago.
I have done a bit of research into the Paisleys, and if ever you would like to share or find out anything more, would love to help. We live in New Zealand now, so personal research a little tricky, but most can be done online these days.
Thanks again for getting in touch
Kind regards
Sarah Biddiscombe

Hello

We are both the descendant's of William. My grandmother was Constance Irene Paisley, Rose's sister, and daughter of William. I'd like to find out what happened also. (Great-Uncle) Roy Paisley provided me with some family background, but William's disappearance is a mystery. On Ellisislandrecords.com there is information found on a William (J) Paisley sailing in and out of the US until 1923, of the right age, but I've no corroborating evidence to suggest this is the same person.

I do remember Rose - as a youngster I always remember how alike Nan (Constance) and Rose were.

Regards

Colin Coombs

Clarifying my earlier post, which had insufficient information, I believe Dr. Paisley was born around 1917; Elizabether was born about 1919. They lived in New Jersey, around Atco, I think.
