Mary Ann Paley (1854-?), Skythorne, Skipton, Yorkshire, England

Looking for more information about a Mary Ann Paley, b: Skythorne, Skipton, Yorkshire, England, the daughter of William Paley (1806-1872), b: Threshfield, Yorkshire, and Harriet Bradley (1813-1869), b: Hetton, Yorkshire. Mary Ann's 1st marriage: on 15 Nov 1873 in Manchester area, living at Draughton at the time, to John Cockshott, agricultural labourer. 2nd marriage: Thomas Rogers, Dec 1887 in Wigan, Lancashire. Thomas dies before 1891 and she moves to Bristol, Gloucestershire with her youngest son, Charles Hector Rogers-Cockshott, and runs a grocery store there. We think she was on the "Ionian" at age 49 to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, where her sons were living (Wilfred Algernon and Bertram Cecil Cockshott). We don't know where she was after that time or where she died - nor much about her 1st husband, John Cockshott. Would appreciate any help on this. Thanks in advance, J.

Hi,

I am researching a member of a Paley Family who came to Australia. I found that Ellen Paley nee Rycroft had a brother William Rycroft, who, in 1881 at the age of 17 yrs was apprenticed to a Master Butcher by the name of Dodds in Hulme Lancashire. I do not know if he had any other connection to his sister's family (she had 12 children)

Bye

Mrs M Smith

I am descended from Paley's in Yorkshire.
Have not got back to 1800, but I have got names of

Edwin Paley (b. about 1843 in Knaresborough, Yorkshire)
His wife- Mary Ann (formerly Banton) b. 1850 in Ticknall, Derbyshire.

Edwin's Children were
William James Paley (b. about 1865 in Leeds, Yorks)
Alice May Paley (b. about 1867 Harrogate, Yorks)
These are not Mary Ann's children - she married Edwin in 1874.

Children of Edwin & Mary Ann were
Elizabeth Agnes (b. about 1876 in Harrogate)
Mary Ann (b. 1877 in Harrogate)
Emma Jane (b. about 1879 in Rochdale lancs)
Ernest (b. 1880 Rochdale)
John (b. 1882 Rochdale)
Effie (b.1885 Rochdale)

I think Edwin's parents were John Paley & Mary.

Do any of these names fit in with your tree?

Nicola

Parents were Christopher and Hannah Ray, who died, believe he wed Martha Newwell, who was buried 1854 in Norton, Derbyshire. Don't know of any children from this marriage.
At present trying to trace my Paleys in London (Holborn area) on 1841 which will give me more names.
Sally
Paley/Jackson and Paley/Tappenden

Looking for relatives and ancestors!

Paternal grandmother Lilian May Paley born Holborn, London c.Jan 1904.
Lilian married paternal grandfather, George Henry Jackson in mid 1926 with whom she had 6 children ( 5 lived, 4 still living). George died c.1956/7 and Lilian remarried several times after this, but no further children.
The Jackson family lived in and around Camden & Highgate in the 1940s and 1950s - however wartime evacuation meant that the children lost touch with their grandparents, and the collective memory has turned up very little.
Hoping to find more about Paleys and Jacksons.

Lilian had a younger sister, Daisy Winifred born c.1907 also in Holborn. Daisy married a Mr Tappenden (or similar surname) with whom she had at least one child. Known child is daugher Winnie (Winifred?) born somewhere between 1928-1935. Winifred knew my father in their younger years (so possibly in war time) and the family at that time lived in Eric Road, Chadwell Heath.
Unfortunately they lost touch with each other so we don't know what happened to them.

Would be very grateful for any leads!
