Hi, I'm your cousin! I'm Ann (Cheech) DiCerbo Swanson and am named after Annie. My dad, Leo, and Annie were brother and sister. I'm named Ann and Leo is named after my father. I think Annie and Leo were born right after each other and therfore closer.

I have been interested in looking up the family tree for a long time but never had the time. This Christmas, I asked for a membership to Ancestry.com. Still haven't bought it yet. I'll do it per month after I enter information i already know.

Of course, looking at Italian records is complicated. I know my brother, Jerry, went to grandpa DiCerbo's hometown in Italy a few years ago. They did see grave stones with "DiCerbo" on them.

As I go along mining my resources, I would be more than happy to share them with you.

Cheech Swanson
7111 McMullen St.
Boise, ID 83709
208.322.8173

Robustiano Palma Family & Cuba

My great grandfather was Robustiano Palma, married to Maria. My grandfather, Jose was their oldest of 13 children and I know who they are. They came to Miami, FL after Castro took over Cuba. Jose came to the USA with my Aunt Julie Palma Bolinas back in the 1940s, to Rochester, NY via a ship to Baltimore, MD. That is where he met/married Margaret Emma Hennessey and my Mom, Marjorie Anita Palma was born. They moved to Miami,FL shortly after my Mom's birth and lived there til they both died.
I know the Palmas originally were from Majorca, Spain, as my grandparents went there many times to visit, but we have no history of Robustiano or Maria's parents or farther back.

I am interested in the tales of both the Bohemian and the Napoletan Palma.

My family (Pallme) is from Bohemia and I heard something similar about a spanish family that
a) abt 1228 changed name to Palma after having helped the King of Aragon to conquer Palma de Majorca
b) 1282 a member of this family helped the King of Aragon to take over Sicily
c) in the same year he migrated from Sicily to Milan, and then to Zurich at the court of Emperor Rudolf I.
d) abt 1300 moved from Zurich to Franken, and afterwards to Bohemia
The history of this family should be detailed in one of the following books, available at the Wien Austrian National Library:
- Biograph Lexicon Wuerzbach (Band XXI ?)
- Neuer Oesterr. Biograph

You can also visit my family web-site: www.pallme.com/family
Palma's in Peru and the USA

The Palma family last name is of great respect in the country of Peru (south america) due to the fact that one of their most famous citizens (Ricardo Palma) created the first library in Peru and wrote a book about Peru. In Peru there are many Universities that honor him.

I am a half spanish half italian Palma (spanish comes from my mothers side, her surname is Munoz). I know that my great grandfather on my fathers side came from the city of Palma di Montichiaro in Sicily with his brothers and traveled to Peru in the late 1800s. My father was the first of my immediate family to actually travel to the USA we currently reside in Massachusetts.

Most "Palma" families in USA might be realistically of Italian Origin from Naples

Just by accident I came to the site of ancestry.com and realized the interst of US people/families of surname "Palma" for their ancestors:
If so and as a "Palma" member myself, I can tell them that the most interesting area of research of their ancestors might be realistically the city of Naples in Italy, expecially in its surroundings or towns of "Giugliano in Campania" or "Palma Campania", whereas "Campania" is the whole Region of Italy which has Naples as main city.
The "Palma" family surname is of noble origin and recorded from the year 1190 a.C. just in Palma Campania (south of Naples and close to the Vesuvius) for nobles of that town, who were on turn of Norman Origin.
In following centuries members of "Palma's" could settle probably by marriages or other activity in Giugliano, north of Naples, 30-40 miles from "Palma Campania", that is a small town of ancient roman origin where Caesar and its generals owned great properties and villas.
Palma ancestors of US citizen seem so to have taken origin from a mix of noble Norman-Latin families, even linked back someway to parents or generals of Julius Cesar.
Keep into account in fact that the same name of the town Giugliano, that still has a lot of "Palma" families takes its name from latin "Julianus", that is in honor of Julius Caesar (born 100 b.C.),who owned the greatest palace of the area up to his tragic death (15 March 44 b.C.)
It is then part of the American History that first "Palma"'s family members seem to have been recorded in New York just coming from Naples during the years of the widest emigration of Neapolitan people to USA (end 1800-1920).
Palma people and families in USA, who may prove to have sure ancestors coming from Italy, may be so greatly proud and honored to have a noble origin linked someway
to the roman, norman and italian history.
He died there in the late 1960's or early 70's; his wife Mary Brunn Palma, my ggrandmother, married him after her first husband died. They had no children together and she died in 1974.

Any info on the Palma family is helpful; I know for a time the Brunn family lived in NYC in Little Italy and attended the Broome Street Tabernacle Church.
I am looking for Joseph Palma, who married my greatgrandmother after her first hudband died, and am having no luck finding him in any online census, so I'm thinking he may have changed his name or used an americanized version of in daily use.

My ggm was born Maria Rosello, but used the name Mary Russell prior to her marriage to Luigi Brun; he was my great grandfather, and he used the name Louis Brunn to sound "less Italian". When he died, Maria married a Joseph Palma; she was from PA though at some point they may have lived in or gone to Philly. He had family there.

Any of these names fit with your Palmas?

I never met anthony palma my grandfather, I believe he passed away between 1947 - 1950. I think he was born between 1909 and 1912. My mother only met him a couple of times. My mother has passed away and I know there is a brother anthony and a sister Jeanette not sure if her name is correct. Anthony was born after his dad passed away I believe, so he never knew his father either. If anyone could help me find my Aunt and Uncle I would appreciate it very much. There are questions of blood type and family history we would love to have. Thank You

I am looking for a Joe Palma of Philadelphia, also--- but he appears to be of a different generation than yours.

Joe Palma married Mary Brunn sometime after 1941; he died in Philly, she died in Hazleton, PA, in 1974, her "hometown" where she returned after Joe died. Her mother and father were Rocco and Carmela Rosello, of Hazleton, PA--both born in (possibly) Brindisi, Italy. Mary Brunn was born Maria Rosello but used the name Mary Russell. When she died, she was buried under the name Mary Brunn Palma.

Looking for family/ancestors of this Joe Palma.

Iam looking for information on Estrada Palma, first President of the Republic of Cuba from 1902-1906, I believe.

My father,Augustine Peter Barranco, and the Barranco family were friends of the Palmas, including Estrada, his son Tomas, and later, his Grandson, Tomas, Jr.

I believe that Estrada Palma ran a Boy's School in New York State, somewhere aong the Hudson River in the period between 1880 and 1900. TOmas Palma lived in Maryland during the 1950s-1960s.

Family tradition says we were related to the Palma family.

Any information in connecting with this Palma family will be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Stephen S.
