Ok maybe there is some connection. My father who's mother was Anita Manto nee Panico grew up on Mount Prospect Ave in Newark. Sad to say My grandparents and Parents are both deceased. So I'm stuck. I do have census paper work which I would have to go through, but I think the address was 680 Mount Prospect Ave. Although I don't share much with people I don't know, a big issue I have with this part of my family is that my parents didn't talk to most of the Panico's since before I was born. I do know that Ralph died in 1963 his wife Mary died in 1987. These would have been my great aunt and uncle. I want to be excited that there might be a connection, because of the street, but it was also a very big Italian neighborhood, and I'm not sure how common of a name Panico is. Hopefully we will find something that will connect these families. I also know that Anita had two nephew's that were named John and Victor that were brothers. As of the early 90's John lived around the Brick NJ area, and Victor lived somewhere in Essex County. I hope this helps you in any way possible. I do apologize for taking long to respond. But I will check sooner for your response

Thank you for contacting me. I don't think it is too far fetched that we are researching the same person. First: The Raffael that I am researching would have been John Panico's Father. Becauase John (Giovanni) Panico is my Grandmother: Beatrice Panico's older brother who lived on Mount Prospect Avenue in Newark. You said you think Raffaels wifes name was Anita. That would tie in. My grandparents: Fortunato (Frederick) Amiano and Beatrice (Panico) Amiano had a habit of naming their children after their parents and Aunts/Uncles. (Example: My GREAT grandparents on my grandfathers side were Allessio and Theresa. My grandparents First two childrens names were Allessio and Theresa. I KNOW that my GREAT grandfathers name on my Grandmother's side was: Raffael, and the next boy in their rotation was named Raffael. The very next FEMALE born was named ANITA. (It would make sense if that was the name of my Grandmother's Mother.

Although I am researching the name Panico, and my family was from Newark, I'm not sure we are researching the same Raffael Panico. I can not say for sure because I don't know alot about that part of my family and do not have anybody to really ask. My Grandmother, Anita, would have been Raffael Panico's Sister. I know Raffael was born in 1908 and died in 1963. He was married to a woman named Mary. But as far as I know only had one daughter who is now in her seventies. And from what I know Raffael's Parents were John and Mary Panico, born 1882 and 1890, respectfully. So I don't think it is the same person, but we had the same last name in our history and they both lived in Newark so there still is a chance that our trees will connect somewhere. If you have any other information you would to share or ask me anymore questions you are more then welcomed to respond.

My Grandmother: Beatrice Panico - From: Salerno, Laviano, Italy came to this country in 1907. She came to stay with her brother John/Giovanni on Drift Street, In Newark, NJ. Their FATHER's name was Raffael Panico. If you are researching any of this, and have any additional information I'd LOVE to hear from you.
Thanks for the response. As far as I know my mother-in-law had no other relatives come to the USA. Any contact I make will probably have to be with someone in Italy. Do you know how to post a message to some of the Panico's in Naples?

Sara,
Hi my name is robert and i have been on this quest to find my roots for over ten years. I have limited ammount of info due to lack of cooperation of what you would call relatives. This is what i have. The Panico name started out in a time when there was no last names. Which was the time peroid when Rome conquered France. The family moved from Naples to France and was given the Name Panico. This ment Wheat Farmer. I have checked this out several times and it come up the same. Then my ancestors had moved back to Naples(Naploi) when things returned back to a normalcy. My great all the way back grand father met a land owners daughter, and they eloped. this really got the land owner mad , ad he was a shoemaker. Most the men in my side of the family all the way back were shoemakers except my grandfather. The family came over here during ww1 which is true because its posted on the ellis island wall.
Heres my ancestors as i know them.
Salvatore Panico ( wife unk)
Children
Gesseppe Panic son of salvatore wife unk
Children
Lucy Panico married George Lehiner
Joseph Panico married Nancy DeLenge (also of Naples)
Children
Adell Panico married Douglas Greenage
Salvatore Panico Married Ivy Fenty
had 4 children
1.William Panico married Robin anderson
Children
Taylor Panico

2.Robert Panico divorced
3.Nancy Panico married robert fredrickson
4.Lynn Panico married dennis gregory

This is the best i can do for you . i have a home page dedicated to family search perhaps you can find more answers there.
http://www.angelfire.com/ks/locksley/4.html

Panico ancestory

As most of you, I also am looking for a relative name Panico who lived in the Naples area. My mother-in-law's maiden name was Carmelo Panico. She married my father-in-law Jerry Hetmer in 1944. She was 16 at the time he was 26. He was a private in the US Army stationed in Naples. She came to Texas in the USA shortly after they were married. We found some letters dating back to 1944-1947 from her sister Rita Panico. They're mostly in Italian, so we are having a hard time translating. The only other piece of info we have is that her father's name was Joseph and her mother (name unknown) died while Carmelo and Rita were very young. I would appreciate hearing from anyone concerning any of the Panico family members listed above.
Thanks for your help.
Gloria Hetmer

Some useless information that may just help. As the italians normally name their children after their paternal and maternal grandparents, I am taking a flyer now but My grandmother Agnese Guilia Panicco named her son Walter Francesco Primo Moitre. Also I have had info that the Panicco men from my family worked in Dynamite Factories. One of the brothers was actually killed in a Dynamite factory in Avigliana Torino Italy. One brother went to the USA probably Californina. Regards Karen

Believe we still have Panicco family in Californina. Perhaps you could contact one of them and they may be able to point you in the right direction. Also, if you do get any joy, please ask them to contact me as well. My Grandmother was Agnese Guilia Panicco (in Moitre).
Let me know how you get on. Regards Karen
