Richard Parcels

Hello,
I have been searching for some information on John Parcels line for several years. I hope you can help me fill some gaps I have in my information.

I would like to know what happened to John Parcel's first wife Maria LIvesey, who travelled with him to Sorel Quebec the winter of 1783. I have corresponded with many researchers from New Jersey who lost track of them when they left their farm and children behind in Bergen County. I have not done much research into Sorel Quebec records.

I would like to know when John died and where he is buried.
I do have several unconfirmed bits of information but nothing solid.

I would like to know if Richard and Sarah were married in 1812
and where. Is it correct that they lived in Carrying Place?

The children I have listed for them are; John 1813-; Geo. Albert b. 1820-1904; Wm 1825-; Walter Rufus (our line) 1827-1871; and possibly other children Mary Ann 1830- ; Christina 1834-; Margaret 1840-.

Where are Richard and Walter Rufus buried? Did they die together or in separate instances?

I am fairly confident of my information after this time.
Looking forward to your reply and appreciative of your corrections to this note.
Sincerely, Jean.

Hi,
I have some information on this family and am happy to share. Email me at misunism@telus.net Your Mahala Parcels was a sister to my Mary Ann Parcels born 1830. So I have some info on Parcels but not too much on the Anderson family. I have corresponded with a lady in California who was researching Joshua and Mahala, as their daughter Margaret was her husband's gGrandmother. She sent me a couple of articles on the Andersons.

Jacob K. Parcels - 1820 to 1904, SE Pennsylvania, USA

I'm looking for Jacob K Parcels. He lived from 1820 to 11 June 1904 in the Chester City and nearby locales. His family does not appear in the Delaware County census' of 1810 nor 1800. Family members speak of Native American complexions in some family members and we have several pictures of a Native American woman who may fit in our ancestry. I suspect that Jacob's parents may have returned from the "west" to the more easterly location of southeastern Pennsylvania.

My direct line to Jacob is via:
James Ayres Parcels, 1841 - 1906
William Franklin Parcells, 1866 - 1943
Julietta Parcells, 1897 - 1979

Jacob's surname appears in one historical record as Parcel.

Thanks for all help you can provide.

Rick Elverson
Amherst, NH, USA

I am looking for a Jacob K. Parcels who was born in 1820 in Pennsylvania. Delaware / Chester County census information has no Parcels or Parcells family members in 1800 nor 1810.

I suspect that the Parcels may have come east from Indian country based on some family photos but this is conjecture only.

I have found no immigration information for Parcels for this same time period.

The Parcels / Parcells remained in Delaware County for many years and there may be some remaining family members there of who I'm not aware.

All information will be appreciated. This has been a brick wall and the Delaware County archive was of no help when I visited your area in the summer.

PEARSALL Family DNA - Surname Project

I have started a global PEARSALL Family DNA - Surname Project for PEARSALL, PARCELS, PARSHALL, PIERSALL, PARCELLS, PURCELL, and related surnames.

Through genetic genealogy (e.g. testing specific markers on the Y-chromosome), we can learn more about:

1. When two family members shared the same ancestor,
2. How different branches of the Pearsall family are related (in the U.S. and worldwide), and
3. How different surnames are related - such as Pearsall, Parcels, Parshall, Piersall, Parcells, Purcell, etc.

Project details can be found at:

http://www.pearsall-family.org/

Please let Pearsall family members (and related surnames) know about this new project.

With your participation and support, we can "reconstruct" our family tree.

Jim Pearsall
jim@jim-pearsall.com
I have the marriage of William to Molly REESING; Ruth, Alice, Wayne and Eugene are listed as children. Molly's brother Burt was married to William's sister Adelia(Addie), later she married Charles PAYNE. Addie & Charles adopted my husband's Aunt Bea when Rosa died in 1924. Did you know Aunt Lillie? She died in 1970, Riverside, CA. We are in Wichita.

Scott - Yes, there is another Scott Parcell/Parcel out there. I tried to email them, the address is bad. So, unless it's an evil twin .... as in the soap operas ... this "other Scott" may be related. I have found other Parcel's here in Wichita that we are not related to, they were usually military or students that were from other areas of the country. (I wonder if future researchers will get me confused with the "other" Alice in my husband's line?) Jim's dad (Virgil) was the only son of that generation, there are only 3 grandsons that will carry the name on. Good luck on your search!

I am not researching this family - just thought this might help someone. It is from page 490 of the 1886 book "The History of the Susquehanna & Juniata Valleys" (Mifflin County medical chapter)

"Walter H. Parcels, M.D., was born in Allegany County, in the State of New York. He read medicine with Drs. Allen and Noble, of Oberlin, in the State of Ohio. He attended his first course of medical lectures at Cleveland Medical College in 1870, and practiced medicine irregularly, but continued medical studies until the winter of 1872 and 1873, when he graduated at the Medical College in Cincinnati, Ohio. He located in Reedsville, Mifflin County, Pa., where he remained a year and a half, and moved to Toledo. In 1876 he came to Lewistown (Mifflin County, Pa) and began a practice, which he continues."

I have corresponded with her; your Aunt Alice; 10 June, 1996, she sent me some info; and ask about the Alters. Is she still interested?? I didn't have much then. I would need to know if she is still using the same P.O. BOX? But have a file now. Plus they have a site on line. I went to the Mormon Library today and copied Parcel, etc off the Master Index.

Karen:
Have found info re Parcels in research done by Bill McPhail. My Aunt Betsy Mcleod was married to Charles McPhail of this clan. Her sister, Sarah, married Richard Parcels whose sister, Rowena, married William McPhail.
According to this posting, Allyn was born in Essex, Canada and died in Rexton, Mi, on March 9, 1945. Elizabeth Lowe was born in Dublin, Ireland and died January ;17, 1909 in Rexton, Mi. You will find all Aunt Sarah's children listed. The two youngest, Caroline and Clinton, are still lliving, I think.
I'm trying to research both my mother's and father's families and am thrilled when I find people or information that fit my family. So I hope this information is helpful and that you can find it for yourself. Try http://www.clanphail.org/mcphail and go from there.
Good luck. Ruth

Dear Karen:
Just returned from Michigan's U.P. which to me is always a trip to "somewhere in time".
Been reviewing family history posted on message boards and came across your messages.
I've been mostly looking for connections with my father's family but always seem to run into mother's many relatives.
Plan to attend two familyl reunions this summer in Epoufette where family history abounds.
Hope you've been successful in your search. The computer is a remarkable instrument, isn't it?
Sincerely, Ruth

Michigan's U.P. is special to me. Crossing the bridge takes you into a different world. Having left still in my teens it is easy for me to recall the old town of St.Ignace minus the many motels and gift shops. No more trains and much less traffic on the Great Lakes. No state ferries spilling a stream of cars every half hour. No Chief to carry the trains across the Straits of Mackinac or crush the ice in the winter time. But in my mind it is very easy for me to recall the past. Always drive by our old home and go down into Epoufette Bay where the old McLeod home stood just below the hill leading up to the cemetery.
To answer your question. My mother was a daughter of John R. McLeod and Caroline Goudreau. She had a sister Sarah who married Richard Parcels. Aunt Sal had five children, four boys and one girl and that is my connection with the Parcels. I believe two of her children are still living. Recently I visited the U.P. and had the pleasulre of meeting Dottie Glashaw, Uncle Jack McLeod's granddaughter. She said that Clinton Parcels and Caroline Moody (the remaining Parcels children) visited her in Epoufette recently.
Dottie is living in and renovating a house once occupied by her parents and doing an excellent job. We exchanged family stories
and she gave us a tour of her home. I also learned from her that a McLeod family reunion is being planned for July down in Epoufette Bay.
There is a wonderful McPhail website that has a picture of Aunt Sal and her brother-in-law sitting in a horse and buggy. You can view it at HTTP://WWW.clanphail.org/mcphail.
There is a Derusha reunion scheduled for August which involves the families of two of my mother's sister, Bridget and Mollie. My sister and I have been invited and hope to attend.
Were you raised in Michigan's U.P?
Hope you find this information interesting. If you have any questions or there is a family connection, please let me know.
Sincerely, Ruth

Hi Richard:
Sorry I didn't respond to your December message. It's always such a busy time with the holidays and preparation for our annual return to Florida that I missed it.
My Aunt Sarah Mcleod was married to a Richard Parcels so many years ago. They lived in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Two of her children are still living. If there is a connection with your family it would be distant.
Am researching my father's family with some success. But the information posted on my computer re his family is better reading than any history or novel. It is really a combination of both since his family dates back to around 1630 and they constantly moved across the U.S.
Thanks for your message and excuse my delayed response.
Sincerely, Ruth

Hi Richard:
Try contacting karenejames@webtv.net. She has been searching for her great grandfather, Allen Parcels.
I think I found the following information at http://www.clanphail.org/mcphail, a most interesting web site.
Allyn David Parcels was born in Essex, Canada 12/27/58 and died in Rexton, Michigan 3/9/1945.(I don't believe he is buried in the Epoufette Cemetery but I would bet on the Caffey Cemetery where many Rexton people are buried.)
You can find all this information at the McPhail website. If you can't find it, I have printed out the information and will be glad to send it to you.
The Richard Parcels my Aunt Sarah married is of this family. One of the McLeod daughters married Charles McPhail who probably was from the McPhail connection with the Parcels.
They all lived in Rexton.
Hope this information is helpful. Let me know if you have any questions or any information to share on the McLeod family.
Sincerely, Ruth

Do you still have same e-mail, as that posted on Genefourm?; I left a msg there for you. The family bible says Purcell; he committed suicide. They say;that is why the spelling change; but could just be phonetic spelling; that is why the name was changed. Original is French. Purcell, and the name William Henry dates from the French and Indian War; Fort William Henry. They could have been declaring which side the family was on. As they were French; and the British ended up with the Fort.

Dear Ruth,

I would love to get to the UP, but I do not feel comfortable driving alone.
My Uncle Earl Warner was just buried in the Caffey Cemetery...would love to get there and take pictures of the headstones of all my Parcels and Warners! Gladys Parcels and husband, Morley, still live in Strongs!

By the way, I remember a Buck Goudreau
from Rexton...relative of yours? I am 65 and remember when some of the Parcels lived there. I think Uncle Oley and Aunt Minnie(Smith) Warner lived there. I vaguely remember Allan David Parcels, my Great Grandpa!

Wish you would email me directly. It would be much easier to correspond that way.(karenejames@webtv.net)

How are you related to Parcels? I believe a Parcels cousin of mine was married to a Ruth. The last name Attala comes to mind. Do not have my notebook handy.

Are you attending a Parcels reunion this summer?

I love the UP...it is like going through a time warp although these days it is getting to be like everywhere else with all the McDoanlds and Walmarts, etc. When I was a kid, it was tar paper shacks and wood smoke and the most wonderful water in the world.

Please e-mail me directly at
karenejames@webtv.net
