Gary, have we talked before? My husband's Park family also came from Sc to AL. Hugh Alexander Park, born 1819 is our earliest proven ancestor. Census says he was born in SC, maybe in Fairfield District. He moved to Tuscaloosa area about 183?. DNA connects him to a large park family in NJ,there before the Revolutionary War. Contact me if you wish. JPark. wareagle[at]rivnet.net.

Hi Christina,

I just came past this when trying to research on my grandfather, John David Park Sr (also yours) who past away on good friday when I was three in 1988. My mother, Louise, has told me that he had a son before he married my grandmother and that she has an older brother. (She has an older sister, younger brother and then four half siblings that are all younger from another marriage).

Did you ever find your father? I am sorry I could not be of any help but thought since we share a grandfather I would reach out.

Ashley Ellen Park MacMillan

Hi Tony,

I was also interested to find out whether there was a connection between the Thorburns and the Parks.
According to Ancestry Public Member Trees, every man and his dog appears to claim descent from Mungo Park, the famous African explorer, but I can find no proof in any tree I have looked at that they are descended from the Mungo Park. In fact, many of the trees have ludicrous information. How can a person born in the 1500s be a parent of someone from the 1700s unless they live to a biblical old age. There are also trees with siblings spanning two hundred years of time. There is certainly a link to a Helen Park b. 1713 - 1766. This makes her dead prior to Mungo Park the explorer's birth. How she would be related to him, I cannot guess.

I've just discovered that my PARK family may have links to Ballynure.

My great great grandmother, Matilda Park, was born in Belfast about 1828 and married Richard Vause in Bath in 1852. They emigrated to Natal, and she died in Durban. Her father was William Park (c1780-1844), "of Belfast, Bath and Quebec".

Newspaper death notices indicate that she had nieces and nephews in Mauritius with the surname Bruce, and following those up led me to a James and Laure Park who appeared ibn censuses in South London between 1861 abnd 1901, and in those 40 years they had a servant Mary Mangan, who was born in Ballynure, and several nephews and nieces with the Bruce surname, born in Canada and Mauritius.

I think that James PARK may be Matilda's brother or uncle, and that they also had a sister who married a BRUCE.

See Also:

http://hayesgreene.wordpress.com/2011/04/11/park-vause-and-d...

anyway, there seems to be a possible link between my PARK family and the Parks of Ballynure.

I am interested in any information related to the above. The last piece of information I have is the 1880 US census that noted them living in Millport NY with their children, Luther and Emma. Any information related to their parentage, death dates or burial information would be appreciated1
