I am trying to find a connection between my gr grandfather and Zebulon Parke. My aunt started researching about 25 years ago. She passed when I was young so I never got the chance to ask her about her research. Here is what she has.

Zebulon Parke(b. jan 24, 1757 d. July 4 1846.) married Jane Burris. They had a son.

John (b. feb 24, 1787 d. june 18, 1860)married Mary Hagerman. They had a son

Joseph Parke (b. June 4 1818 d. aug 22 1907) married ? He has a son

Samuel Nathaniel Parke (b. May 20, 1827 d.?)married Henrietta Ackley.

This is where I cant make the connection. My gr grandfather is John Richard Park (b about 1899)

William Parke b. 1460

I have hit a wall with the Parke family ancestry. I have William b. 1480 who married Elizabeth Ogilvey. Did he also marry Hestor Strutt? I find no info on her except the marriage to William, which is before Elizabeth died, and her marriage to John b. 1444. I am confused on William 1460's father. I see names of William and John as his father, both with the same b & d dates and Alice Strutt as his mother. So who the heck did Hestor marry? Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is a very interesting family to trace but I try to be careful because so many don't pay attention to the details. I see the same son, same dates, listed more than once in a tree or children born after someone has died. So again, any help would be great.
Kathy

I sure hope that you are still out there . . . You know about Robert Parke of Baltinglass and his ancestors? I may be related to the Baltinglass Robert Parke through a John Parke who married in Baltinglass and then moved about 7 miles to the Dunlavin area in the townsland of Freyenstown. John appears to have died circa 1847 during the famine. I know the Parke families today in Ireland and am part of the clan that moved to Kansas. I sure hope you are still out there because this would be quite the find . . . .

I have been told that around the time of the American Revolution, some Parke/Parks changed their place of orgin from England to Ireland. There are Parke/Parks in Ireland, too, so it can get pretty confusing.

You may be interested in the Parke/Parks Reunion 2011. Here's the link - https://sites.google.com/site/parksreunion2011/

Sir Robert Parke was married to Martha Chapin. They and son, Thomas, & 3 others are listed on the passenger list for the Winthrop Fleet of 1630. Not sure when she died.
Alice Freeman of Massachusetts and (presumably) Connecticut married (1) John Thompson; (2) Robert Parke. (Dorothy Thompson, her daughter by John Thompson, married Thomas Parke, son of Robert Parke and Martha Chaplin, his first wife) are ancestors of H.R.H. The Princess of Wales and her sons, H.R.H. Prince William and H.R.H. Prince Henry of Wales.

LYDIA FARNHAM PARKE was born 3 Oct 1728 in Canterbury, Windham CT. She was a d/o Josiah Farnum & Lydia Howard. She was married about 1747 in Plainfield, Windham CT to Isaac Parke. Isaac died in Feb 1757 [where? was there a will or probate record?]. Lydia & Isaac Parke had at least 4 children: Abijah 1748-1813, Sibyl ca.1751, Hannah ca.1753 and Asa ca.1754. The children had a connection with Andover, Essex MA, and moved to Dalton, Berkshire MA by 1790.

Did they also have a daughter, Lydia, ca.1755, who married Joseph Lawrence b.1745 in Plainfield CT? His granddaughter was also named Lydia. Four of Joseph & Lydia Lawrence’s children were baptized on the same day in July 1790 as were six of Asa Parke’s children, in Dalton MA.

Question:
What became of Lydia Farnam Parke after Issac’s death in 1757? Did she remarry? Where & when did she die? Did she leave a will or was there some record of her probate?

To make this all simpler, all of these people show to be born in Ireland but have immigration dates to the USA. If each person was born in Ireland then migrated to the USA, then each person would have had to return to Ireland and have their child born. I will check out the links, thanks. It gets confusing after a while.

Well, let's see.

Not all descendants are careful about following up every lead to their ancestors, and just attach to some convenient line. Or, some "special line." (see below)

Some of these people made several trips across the pond. I even have one who "apparently" had two families, one on each side.

"Assuming" (and you know how much trouble that can get you), that we have the same set here, What I have is:

Robert Parke (3 Jun 1580 in Semer, Suffolk Co, England - 4 Feb 1665 in Stonington, CT) m Martha Chaplin/Chapin (4 Feb 1584 - 1643 Stonington, Ct) on 9 Feb 1601 in Semer, Suffolk Co, England. (According to another source, he married again to Alice [Freeman] Thomas in 1644) (Another source gives his BP as Little Preston)
Thomas Parke (1616 Hitcham, Suffolk Co, England - 30 Jul 1709, Preston, CT) m Dorothy Thompson (5 Jul 1624, Preston Capes, England - 1710, CT) on 28 Oct 1644, in Roxbury, MA Colony
Thomas Parke (18 Apr 1648, Wethersfield, Hartford Co, CT - say 1698, Preston, New London County, CT) m Mary Allyn (say 1648 in Wethersfield, Hartford County, CT - Unk death date ) 4 Jan 1672 in Stonington, CT.

Oh, when I ran this out, I see that Thos and Dorothy's children did not include a Robert b 1658. There was Robert b ca 1651, who m1 Rachel Leffingwell and m2 Mary Rose ___. That one, however, died in 1707.

This is the Robert and son Thomas who arrived on the Arabella in 1630.

What this indicates to me is that there is a wrench in the works on the information you have been provided. Or, what I provided.

One way or the other, there were certainly more than one "Robert Parke" and "Thomas Parke" who in the colonies.

Here is a very nice compilation of much of the source material on Robert and Martha (Chapin/Chaplin) Parke: http://members.cox.net/trm/ParkeRobertJr.htm

And, Thomas:

http://members.cox.net/trm/ParkeThomas.htm

I did find a Robert b 1658 in Ireland, d 1738 in PA. (another version has MD) It looks to me that might be "your" Robert m to Margery Medowe? If no, he is not of the same line. Somehow it's gotten confused.

Yours is probably from the Quaker side, arrived in 1720.

Here is an example of "attachment" that I'm talking about:

http://virgjones.com/HTML's/Family%20Tree/gp335.html

We have Robert Parke (no sources, by the way), married to Margery Medowe, with the other dates as you gave them.

The author, however, has him attached to Thomas Parke and Dorothy Thompson, who were clearly in Connecticut by the time he was born, and who had been married there.

Pat

Sir Robert Parke

Sir Robert Parke, 1580—1665 arrived Boston MA, in 1630 on the ship Arabella, With his family.

HIS SON, Thomas Parke, 1615—1709, arrived to Boston in 1630 on the Mary and John or Arabella..

HIS SON, Robert Parke, 1658—1738, arrived at Delaware Bay, on 1724, the ship Sizargh, of Whitehaven.

All three of these men were said to have been born in either England or Ireland. How is this possible for these men to be born across the pond and there are records of them on different ships sailing to America?
If Robert was born in Ireland in 1658, did his father Thomas who arrived in The USA in 1630, go back to Ireland, have a son, then return to the USA on the Sizargh?

I also have a grandmother, Elinor Parke, daughter of Robert Parke who supposedly was in the USA in 1724, but his daughter Elinor was born in Ireland in 1684

Im just looking for accurate information and so far it looks like everyone related has something different.
This is my great uncle Ed. He was lots of fun! He had a farm in Sidney where my mother used to take me to visit. He had lost one of his arms to the elbow in a thrashing accident. He and Gertrude had a son, Myron who lives in Sidney who may still be alive. He had six kids I think, one a son named Myron. The others were girls. Two of them are Barbara and June. Myron had a dairy farm in Sidney. The last time I saw him was at my mother's funeral in 1984.

The rest of the info I have gleaned from other family trees and believe his line goes back to the Roger Parke that came from England with John Winthrop in 1630. I would like to purchase your book.
Steve:
As far as I can tell there is no direct line left in Canada. My grand father came to the United States in 1900. That line ended about two years ago. I have one first cousin that is in his 90's, he lives in California. I really do not think he would be willing to do a DNA test. Like most families you only know the line you are in. My GGGrandfather also had a second wife and more children with her, which I also have, but at this point that does not make a difference. There is just so much I want or need to know about the Wicklow family and if they started there or in a different country.
Thank you for getting back to me so quick, I hope I did not put you to sleep.
How is the weather in southern Colorado?
Hello!!! It is fantastic to hear from you.

My name is Steve Parke and yes, we may be connected. My grandfather, Peter Parke, came to the USA in 1898 but we have a County Wicklow Parke family tree going back to the 1840 marriage record between John Parke and Mary Kelly. Their first boy was also named "John" in 1843 and he married Mary O'Toole. My grandfather, Peter, came to KS to ranch with his uncle, Thomas O'Toole.

I've not been able to go any further back on the Irish paper trail due to "burned records". Yet through a Dublin researcher, I am aware of more Parke people in the Baltinglass, County Wicklow area who were Church of England but I don't know our connection to them. My Parke and O'Toole line is Catholic, at least back to 1840.

Now here's the million dollar question. Are there any living males in Canada from your Thomas Parke line? If so, we can do a y-DNA test to see if we are the same people. I've already done the y-dna testing and have those identifying dna numbers in hand.

Finding the Parke name south of Dublin, i.e. County Wicklow is rare. Most Parke surnames are in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Northern England. From my surname research, it's an Anglo-Scot name.

Steve Parke, Colorado

Thomas Parke was born 1793 in County Wicklow and moved to Ontario Canada around 1820. I have been unable to find out anything about his life in Ireland. Parents, family, etc. You are the first person who has even come close to my line. Do you know anything about the Parke family in Ireland. I may be wrong but I believe there may be a connection. I have everything from the Canada. Any help would be great. Sorry that I do not know anything about John.
Many thanks for your help. Since you posted earlier today I've established that Thomas Arkwright Parke attended Rugby School and Jesus College, Cambridge, and died at sea on his way back from Melbourne.

Judging from the freebmd listing of her birth registration (in the third quarter of 1863) I would judge that Gladys Mary was born in June, not March.

Thomas Evans was a first cousin, three times removed, of mine. I have found out quite a bit about him.

From the History of the Loyal Cambrian Lodge: "like other members of this notable family, [he] was an official of the Dowlais Iron Company, being for some years colliery manager. He was afterwards appointed Mines Inspector under the first Mines Act, for the South Wales district, and about the year 1864 he was transferred to the Derby and Nottingham Mining districts in a similar capacity."

The British Imperial Calendar has him first as Inspector of Mines, no address given, 1856; Merthyr Tydfil 1857-8; Cardiff 1859-64; Withnall Hall, Chorley 1865-8; Belper from 1869. Withnall Hall was his father-in-law's home.

Reduced price for DNA testing

As group administrator of the Park/e/s DNA surname project, I’d like to pass along news about a limited-time price reduction for DNA testing from our testing firm. Unfortunately, we receive very little or no advance word of these promotions, so as you can see the limited time price reduction begins today and only runs to June 24th, 2009.

Offer summary:

• Y-DNA37+mtDNA for $119. (The regular project price is $248 – a reduction of more than 50%)
• The promotion will begin on June 9, 2009 and will end on June 24, 2009
• Kits ordered in this sale must be paid for by June 30, 2009

If you have been considering Y-DNA testing for your Park/e/s line, this is an excellent opportunity to get a 37 marker test at a greatly reduced price, and I would urge you to order before the deadline. If you have any questions about Y-DNA testing for genealogy, or the order process, feel free to email me at: kenparks@earthlink.net

To order a test and join the Park/e/s DNA surname project:
http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=Parke
