I have been reading a family history of EMERSON, which family came to Canada from Weardale (spelled Weredale in the booklet) in 1817. In it the author mentions neighbours named Parkin, but does not say if they also came from Weredale. Does anybody have a connection to a Robert Parkin who came to Canada in the early 19th Century?
I am descended from a William Parkin who was here before 1850, but I can't find a connection. Can anybody help?

Unfortunately the name tag was already on the photo when I was sent it but I will ask my cousin to send another copy.I have tried to remove it but I don't know what program was used to put it on in the first instance. It may take a few days though as her family research records are in no particular order!

I have just rung her (she comes from Yorkshire) and have left her a message so hopefully she will send it soon.....

will pass it on as soon as I can.

I have a photo of the Grenadier Guards on my tree that has James Arthur Parkin on it, (tagged).Also a photo of him at his workplace of Truslee Manor. JAP is the man in the middle. I have attempted to attach these photo's.The guards was taken in 1916, don't know when the work piccy was taken.
Please let me know if you receive them or not.I also have the location the name can be found on the memorial if it is of any use for your project.

Hello there...

My father was George "Pete" Parkin from Bulger, PA (at some point). I am his illigetimate daughter and his children are aware of me. I was placed for adoption in 1953.
From what I have been told, George "Pete" Parkin is the son of George Parkin and Viola Neff Parkin. His aunts were Dora, Stella, Fanny and Violet.

I am just now entering more fully into tracing my heritage, and would be interested in exchanging any info with you.

I am also researching Parkin,my great grandad was Adam who was the twin to Eve.His mother and father were Maria and John Parkin.His siblings were Jane h Hind,Eve and John George Parkin.Is this the same family.We originate the Consett area now but were originally located in the Bishop Aukland/Crook area.Elm Park that you mention is just in Shotley Bridge which is the Consett area and I have seen this in some of my findings.Please could you let me know if this is a link Thankyou Tracy nee Parkin

I would very much like to correspond with you! I have been looking for information on George and his family and had given up of ever finding anything. At first I did not think these were the same people but I am pretty sure that they are now. Sarah was the d/o Theodore & Anne Hart Smith she married Geroge Parkin, I have a copy of her marriage and they lived in the PA area....my Grandfather had an old photo with some letters from a Fanny Jones that we could not figure out who she was, I believe she is the daughter of Sarah and George....the children I have for Sarah right now is Dora, Fanny and George Jr....I hope to hear from you soon!

Looking for information on Joseph Parkin-married Mary E Cuscaden Hancock (b 1826-d 1890) about 1856 in McCracken County, KY. He was born in Wales, She in Ireland. Mary E Parkin is shown on 1860 census in Clark's River, KY. That area was known as Mechanicsburg, and is now Paducah, KY. They had 2 children: Anna Ellen(b 1857-d 1932); and Albert (middle name Thomas, I think) (b 1959-d 1907). Albert was a saloon keeper. Dave Parkin, relationship unknown, made the funeral arrangements for Mary when she passed. These are my ggrandparents. Any help would be appreciated. Glad to share whatever info I may have.

Can anyone help me I'm looking for my G-Grandmother Lilly Parkin on the 1891 Census, with no luck.

She was born 8-02-1886 in Bolton, sadly her Mother Betsy Ellen Parkin passed away in 1887 aged 27, on the 1891 census i can find her father William Henry Parkin, living with his parents George and Harriet Parkin and his other children Albert 10 and Elizabeth 8 in Bolton, I can also find Betsy Ellen family Betsy Hamer (mother) and her siblings Esther, George, Robert and Annie, but still no Lilly.

I can find her on the 1901 census living with her Grandfather George Parkin, auntie Hannah and uncle Thomas Hayes.

Her Father william Henry Parkin remarries on the 31-10-1891 to May Ellen Bromiley.

In 1911 she married my G- Grandfather Cecil Workman.

John Parkin 1807 married to Ann Luke

Can anyone help me with a John Parkin b around 1807 [it varies with the Census] in Great Torrington, Devon, England.
He married an Ann Luke from St Agnes and had five children, all born in East Stonehouse where he was a porter in the Victuallers Yard.
I cannot trace his parents or marriage; the only real clue I have is that his mother appears on one Census as "Sally" Parkin.
John's children are Elizabeth Ann 1834, John Luke 1836, Henry Luke 1839, Albert Davis 1841 and William Davis 1846. I have managed to trace all their histories but there's no hint as to John's past.
Please can you help? I should be so grateful.

First I shall answer your question -I have the photo through Sheila.

My connection is that my gr.gran Laura Edith Ford nee Parkin
was the sister of JA Parkin, Sheilas grandad who died in the Somme battles in Sept 1916. That makes us second cousins once removed.

Do you have any information about a Mary Ann PARKIN born 1794 Bratton Fleming, Devon, England and died after 1891, in probably Huntshaw, Devon, England (found there on 1891 census)? She married a BROWNSCOMBE (reportedly named Thomas or James but I have no proof of this) ca. 1819 in Devon, England. Mr. Brownscombe died before the 1841 Census, and wife Mary Ann is found in Devon in 1841 (Huxton, District 2, Bratton Fleming, Devon, England) with children: William 20 farmer, John 15, Mary 15, Ann 14, Kitty 11, Sarah 10, James 7, Edward 5, Grace 3. Does anyone know which Devon PARKIN family this Mary Ann Parkin might belongs to? Also, this Mary Ann is said, by some, to be a PADDON instead of a Parkin.

I'm looking for any information and hopefully a connection between Thelma Winnefred Hoyle (nee Parkin) born Oct 1907 in Northumberland, England.
She is descended from a Josephus Parkin who was born in abt. 1733 and died around 26Jan1812.
Her mother's name might have been Mary Hannah Parkin born in Sheffield, England in around 1893.
Thelma is not blood-related, married my step-Grandfather, but I would love to find out her family tree and descendants.

I note your message is a year ago, but I thought I would reply with some info. We may have communicated previously--your name is familiar. My gggrandmother is Anna Hodgson. My grandmother was Mildred Cross Burmood, her mother Lydia Boone Cross, Anna's daughter.

Anna married Joseph Boone 23 Apr 1853 in USA. I have not found the year she immigrated to America. In 1860 Anna lived in Roscoe, Winnebago, Illinois. In 1870 her last name is now Parkin on the U. S. Census. Living with her are Benjamin Parkin (17); Lydia Boone (15); Ida Angelina Boone (13); Sarah Boone (11); and John Boone (7). She died 6 Jan 1900 and is buried as Anna Parkin in the Wood River, Nebraska, Cemetery. There is the inscription: Born in England, on her tombstone. She and Joseph Boone had four children: Lydia, Ida Angelina, Sarah, and John. They did live in the Wood River area for a period of time.

I am quite sure if your husband's great grandmother is Sarah Boone, then his gggrandmother is Anna Parkin. I can not find when she married Parkin. On the 1860 census she is married to Joseph Boone. Living with them are children Ralph Parkin (12); Phebe Parkin (10); and Ben Parkin (8). As well as Nancy Boone (14) and Jesse Boone (10). In addition: Lydia, Ida, and Sarah Boone. The ages and names indicate a blended family with Anna's children named Parkin, and Joseph's children Nancy and Jesse, along with their own three at that time. I am making that assumption since both Phebe Parkin and Jesse Boone are 10 years old on the 1860 census.

I would be interested in any additional info you have on Anna. Especially when she immigrated to America, and when she married Parkin. I am also not sure why she went back to the Parkin name.

I don't know if this will help, but I have Ann Luke b 1808 in Tavistock, m John Parkin, and in 1851 they were living in East Stonehouse, Devon, England. Albert Davis Parkin, their 4th child, was my GG Grandfather. I haven't found any other information on Ann's line yet, but am still looking. Would greatly appreciate it if you would pass on anything you might find and I will do the same.

At Google news archives in the January 30, 1902 issue of the Pittsburgh Press, there is an obituary for Joseph PARKIN. I was searching for Cornwall, England and came across the article. I found Joseph's travel history like many Cornish quite interesting-makes tracing them sometimes difficult!

How much of the history happened in England. There is no record of a Anna Hodgson, marrying a Ralph Parkin in England, and I cannot find them on any census record. If they lived in England, then roughly, what dates. When did she marry Joseph Boon, and where did she marry him. Do you know when she left England

I don't have any info. on Ralph Parkin other than the fact that he was married to Anna Hodgson. She was b. 24 Sep 1823, England, d. 6 Jan 1899 in Wood River, Hall, NE. Anna married Joseph Boon, they had 4 children so they had a combined family with...Parkins, Boon and Boon's children from a previous marriage.
