Carol, are you still searching for Parrs? Your father was the brother of my grandfather, Reg Parr, who is buried in Trane Cemetery. His grave is not too far from the Gilfach Road entrance - just up on the right. I can't be more specific than that, I'm afraid, because I haven't been there since I was a child.

I am not related to this Parr line, but was able to find information through familysearch.org

Fannie Parr, age 23, married Carless Black, age 21, 4 March 1920, Vernon, Lamar Co. AL. (His given name is probably often misspelled.)

Lamar Co. AL borders Fayette Co. Al, where Fannie’s family lived in 1920. Here is a link to information about her parents found at the rootsweb Search Family Trees.

Hi Amy...the following are a series of e-mails I had with Ken Nordtvedt. Ken is one of the more knowledgeable people in the DNA genealogy arena and particularly with regard to our I1 Haplogroup. http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/index/Y-DNA-HAPLOGR....
Two new SNPS, Z58 and Z63, have been identified which are useful in dividing Haplogroup I1 into small subdivisions.
I recently test both and was found to be Z63+, as has Mr Coe. As Ken answered in response to my initial question this provides additional proof of our relationship despite the difference in surnames. It would be useful if your Dad would also test Z63 at FTDNA. They recently began offering this SNP test at a cost of US$29. No new sample would need to be provided.
The following is a YAHOO group website that is investigating new SNPs: http://au.groups.yahoo.com/group/I1-Z58andZ63/?yguid=2548000...

best regards
Ron

all three of you with 12 at 393 and 20,20 at YCAIIa,b are related. You should have the same Z series SNP result.

- - - -
Kenneth Nordtvedt

See:
"Tree for I1"
"Tree and Map for haplogroup I"
"The I1modalities"
all at http://knordtvedt.home.bresnan.net

These files are periodically updated as new information is obtained.

From: Ron Bartlett
Sent: Wednesday, April 11, 2012 7:06 PM
To: Kenneth Nordtvedt
Subject: Re: re my e-mail 0f 2/19/2012 and your 2/19/2012

At YSearch Coe is JNAJF and Parr is 9QYT2
----- Original Message -----
From: Kenneth Nordtvedt
To: Ron Bartlett
Sent: Wednesday, April 11, 2012 5:52 PM
Subject: Re: re my e-mail fo 2/19/2012 and your 2/19/2012

I suppose Coe and Parr are brand new entries in I1 project? I am Bartlett 99448 or RQD7Y/
They may be reluctant to test 38-67 or more. Would testing Z63 and achieving a Z63+ result (my recent result) provide a higher level of confidence of relationship than further STR testing?
Thanks\Ron

Hi Amy
I'm in the process of reviewing e-mails which I received in the past from researchers who are much more knowledgeable than I with regard to how we might try to sort out our "tangled web". Soon as I've done that I'll forward their comments to you and we can see where we go from there.
For now, can I ask how solid you feel your paper trail is back to John Parr, 1790?
We Bartletts feel ours is very solid back to Oliver, 1743. In fact, the one 37/37 match I have is with a line that goes back to a known brother of Oliver, Daniel, who was born about 12 years after Oliver in 1755. This would seem to rule out a one-time paternal event or an adoption.
So from our side, the unknown father of Oliver and Daniel may have, genetically speaking, been a Parr. How or why he carried the surname Bartlett is the question.
From your side, the same questions arise depending on how solid your paper trail is and how far back.
As you know from FTDNA, we also have a 35/37 match with another surname, Coe. Any link that you know of? Unfortunately, I've never been able to get a response from Mr Coe to explore things with him.
I'll be in touch again soon
Ron Bartlett

From FTDNA testing, John William Parr was a 25/25 and 35/37 match with my small group of Bartletts originally from South Hadley, Ma. Our earliest known ancestor from there and our BrickWall, Oliver Bartlett, was born circa 1743. While believed to have originated in the UK, we've been unable to verify that origin. Most of our line can be traced to Mass, Vt, NY and Ohio.

As in many cases like this there may have been a paternal event, adoption, etc.
Any help would be appreciated.

Re: PARR , JAMES from Lancashire, England to Pennsylvania

Susan,

Sorting through possibilities – there may have been a James Parr born about 1641-1650 in Boston, probably son of Abel Parr and maybe Ann “Widow” Simmons. Maybe have died in Rhode Island – so would have been one of the Puritans who left the Mass Bay Colony for the more liberal religious environment of Rhode Island. Maybe a Roger Williams follower?

I see a James Parr born about 1680 in Lancashire and died 02 Oct 1740 in Somerset, Pennsylvania. His spouse Elizabeth Docking and they were the parents of Richard William Parr 1722-1785, Samuel Parr 1728-1811, William Parr 1730-??, Mary Parr 1735-??

You might see if there are any clues on the Parr DNA site. Slowly we are picking up more information that will eventually be a huge benefit to researchers.
http://www.eparrs.com/ProudParr/pages/DNAproject.html

Share your success. Good luck.
Robert S Parr

There is confusion on line about Robert S Parr, buried in Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin, IN. There are several Robert S Parr men, so I created the following bio based on just the one person, as far as I can tell. Please let me know if you sense a problem.

Birth: 1835
Johnson County
Indiana, USA
Death: Aug. 26, 1922
Noble Township
Wabash County
Indiana, USA [Edit Dates]

Robert S Parr is the son of James Pleasant Parr (1800-1864) and Eleanor Israel (1806-1876). His grandfather is Matthias Parr (1757-1846); great grandfather Matthias Parr (est. 1725-1770); great great grandfather John Parr (1692-1746). Robert S Parr is my 2nd cousin, 3 X removed. There seems to be confusion among researchers about several Robert Parrs'. Ancestry.com researchers have combined several Robert Parr's as one. I thought I would try to clarify who this Robert S Parr is, to assist other family researchers. Please let me know if you believe my information is in error. We find this Robert S Parr living in Franklin in the 1850 census. On Sept 19, 1859 he married Rachel Alexander. in the 1860 census we find them living in Franklin. In 1861 they are the parents of George Washington Parr. On Aug 16, 1861 Robert S Parr enlisted in Indiana's 18th Infantry, Company I. August 18, 1864 he is mustered out. Rachel V Alexander Parr dies in 1865. On March 10. 1868 Robert marries Rebecca Alexander, Rachel's sister. Both girls are the daughters of George Alexander and Margaret Farnsworth of Johnson County. They originally migrated to Indiana from Tennessee with the Parr's and other family members. In the 1870 census we find children George and James living with Robert and Rebecca. This would be George from the earlier marriage and new child James. In 1880 there are four children: George, Harry, Riley and Roscoe and the family is in Jackson, Newton County. There is no 1890 census and no record of them anywhere else. They are not included in the 1900 census based on my research. in 1910 we find Robert S Parr living with his son Ira in Needham, Johnson County. in 1920 Robert is in Franklin again, living with his son, Harry G Parr. One researcher indicates that Robert S Parr died August 26, 1922 while living in Noble, Wabash County and that he is buried in Franklin. This was an interesting mystery based on all the misinformation on line, and maybe we are still not 100% accurate. Robert was obviously a Patriot and Father and we needed to clarify his burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, a wonderful facility.
I don't have any additional information on the Benson line but was wondering if you had any information on the Parr line past Gideon's Grandfather Henry Parr. Henry Parr was born on 19 Nov 1823 and was married to Catherine Caroline Smith on 27 Aug 1850. Henry was John Parr's father and Gideon Parr's grandfather. I've hit a brick wall on that line and can't find a birth certificate or any information on Henry's parents. Any information would be appreciated.

Hello everybody
I am trying to find details of the above named individual. I am currently researching my Fathers wartime career in the RAF. He flew 2tours with the 75 New Zealand squadron. His second tour from Mepal in Cambridgshire at the start of 1945.

He returned to join an existing crew who had lost their bomb aimer. Through a photo sent by the some of Dad's pilot and research into the operational histories at the start of 1945, I have identified the above individual as performing the role of wireless operator in my Fathers Lancaster crew.

Does anybody know of a relative that might be this man ?

I look forward to hearing from somebody !!

all the best

Simon

I am a decendent of Giles Smith Parr. His son Benjamin Franklin Parr is my great grandfather. I am looking for Benjamin's real mother. All of the trees have Matilda Dodd as his mother but that is not correct. Giles married Matilda Dodd in 1856 in Texas. Benjamin was born in 1851 in Mississippi, and Matilda would have only been 11 years old when Benjamin was born. My mother (who has now passed away) had made notes that Benjamin's mother died when he was approx 11 years old. He did not come to live with Giles and Matilda until he was 18. I cannot find him on an 1860 census anywhere, but he is living with Giles and Matilda in the 1870 census. There is a Benjamin Franklin Parr on an 1860 census but parents are Jeramiah and Mahala I think. This is not the same Benjamin Franklin Parr. If anyone has any information I would love to know it.

i posted to your e-mail address but I will post here also. Other researchers might find names that have meaning. I have found additional information that I will post later. Savanna Bailey Parr's father was Edward Bailey, b. 1803, VA. Here is my first response:

Here is the link to a great research site:

https://www.familysearch.org/

When you put in his name for a search there are several entries for Willis Grover Parr (or Grover Willis Parr).

In looking through all of them you will find that his mother’s name was Savannah (or Savanah) Bailey.

Willis G. Parr married Nora L. Fogle, 12 March 1910, Wood Co. OH. His parents: William Parr and Savannah Bailey; her parents Alonzo Fogle and Minnie Jones. In the 1910 census for Wood Co. OH they were living with his parents, William and Savanah.

There is an entry for the marriage of William Parr and Savanah Bailey for 7 April 1885 in Marion Co. OH. However, the 1910 census states that they had been married for 26 years. In light of the birth of Willis G. Parr in 1885, I would question whether or not there was a mistake in the transcription and it should have been 1884.

Another warning about the site I have given you: if there is not an image for the census, use it as a guide and go to another census site to look at the image. Sometimes names are left off at the familysearch.org transcription site.

I hope you find this helpful in your research.

You might be interested in knowing that the 1940 U. S. Census will be released in 2012, I think about midyear. It will take awhile before the indexing can be done to place it online, but once those records are readily available it should be easier to find Raymond and Estell Parr, and their son Kenneth.

The following information is from the Social Security Death Index:

Estell Parr, b. 20 Jan 1915, d. Nov 1983, Detroit, Wayne Co. MI Her SS number was issued in MN.

Raymond Parr, b. 22 Feb 1911, d. Dec 1976 in Dearborn, Wayne Co. MI. His SS number was issued in MN.

Kenneth H. Parr, b. 17 March 1933, d. 11 Feb 2005, Taylor, Wayne Co. MI.

There are many sites with the Social Security Death Index but here is one that I like to use:

http://ssdi.rootsweb.ancestry.com/

Click on the Advanced Search then fill in a name and the birth and death information and you should get it right away.

I have never sent for a Social Security application but I have read that they are often better than a death certificate because the individual was giving the information. The form asks for names of parents, including the mother’s maiden name.

The cost is $27.00 if you provide the SS number (which you will see in the index). In the Tools link click on the image that looks like a letter. You will get a printable form that you can send in with your check. Do not use the “Order copy.” That is a business that will get it for you, for an additional fee over the $27.00. But you can send for it on your own.

In doing a Google search for these names I see that there has been a search for half brothers, sons of Kenneth Harry Parr. I was unsuccessful at finding an obituary for Kenneth H. Parr, which might include where they lived in 2005. It might be difficult to get a start on the ancestral line for Raymond Parr and his wife, Estell, without going the Social Security copy route. Raymond and Estell probably married around 1932 but I did not find an online marriage record. I thought maybe Raymond might be in the U.S. by 1930. I did find a few men named Raymond Parr, b. 1911, but none had listed Canada as a birth place, and none were in MN or MI.
