Are you related to a Bentley who came from Glossop, Derbyshire. If so, I'd love to hear from you.

My father's Mum Ellen Maria Bentley (nee Cullen) died when Dad was only 8 months old. He was then sent to live with an aunt and uncle Thomas and Mary Ellen Osborne (nee Bentley). He had an older brother George, who was also brought up by another aunt and uncle. They rarely saw each other and hardly ever saw their father.

Their father remarried and I've managed to find the step family and are in touch but I've not been able to find out what happened to George born 1 Nov 1921 (GRO Vol 7b, Page 1578).

Thank you, I have been making queries about the Benjammin B. Parrott cemetary for some time. My cousin Cecil Ray Parrott of Darlington told me about the damage by vandals. I have a map of the property as itwas in the 1800's but undrstand that a road was put thru the property some time ago and wondered if the cemetary was still on the original property. Any help you can send to me would be deeply appreciated. Bens wife Nancy is supposed to be buried the also. Benjamin is my 4th great grandfather. Thanks again Don

Rita,
Sounds like I've finally found someone who knows something about Elizabeth Parrott that can help me. Thanks for taking the step to get in touch with me! I have been wrestling with my great-grandmother's history for some time, primarily because when she filled out the 1911 Census the information she put forward didn't match what I had been told by my other contacts (Ted Snow's side). The 1901 Census also thew me for a loop because Elizabeth and all her children are listed as born in Clerkenwell, London (not Birmingham, Warwick). There are so many questions that I have about these two Census reports... but that's another time. Yes, I would love to keep in contact with you by e-mail (my address is brsm919@att.net.)
Regards... Brian Smith (USA)

I was pleased to see your message to Angie and have spent some time today trying to find a link that would collaborate my late mother’s story of her Grandfather’s family to yours. My mother was the daughter of Catherine Tebbett nee Parrott the youngest child of Edward Parrott. I think the Elizabeth Ann Parrott in our family tree is likely to be the right person who married your ancestor. My mother had told me she understood Elizabeth had been married twice, her first husband’s name was unknown and he had died in an accident, they had 4 children. Her second husband was named Smith and he was a drover delivery carter and they had 5 children. All this is hearsay and looking at the occupations of the Kelly’s and Smith’s I am thinking it more likely that George Smith was the drover delivery carter.
Now I know Elizabeth’s husbands names so will add them to my tree.

However, looking at the family on your tree our Edward Parrott’s (1928-1903) father was also named Edward Parrott (1806-1885) and the relatives you display do not match my family relatives.
If you would like a copy of our Parrott descendant tree let me have your e-mail address and I will send it to you.

I have not heard from Angie for a while but we keep in touch if anything new turns up.
Hope the above info is useful.
Hi Angie,
I am looking for information with regards to Elizabeth Ann Parrott, born 1872 to Edward Parrott, who, according to her marriage certificate in 1901, was an umbrella maker. She married my great-grandfather George Frederick Smith. I, too, have traced Edward (Ted Snow) Parrott, but am stuck, since his daughter Elizabeth was born in Birmingham, When Elizabeth filled out her 1911 Census sheet she listed her birthplace as Clerkenwell, Middlesex. One contact I have been in touch with is convinced that the Ted Snow link is legitimate. However, until I can tie him and Elizabeth Ann together I will continue looking elsewhere. Do you have any info that will help me get back on track?
Best Regards... Brian Smith (USA)

I have an original postcard photograph of “Russell Parrott – Clinton, IL”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. He is shown with his dog, and holding a rifle, and he looks to be about mid 20s.

I found Russell “Parrot” in the 1910 census of Harp (DeWitt Co.) IL, age 12, son of William & Hattie Parrot. SSDI shows his birthdate as 29 Nov 1897. In 1900 census, he was “Russle A. Blossom” in DeWitt Co., IL, age 2, born IL, stepson of William Parrott & son of Hattie Parrott (born Feb 1864) and brother of Harry Blossom, age 12, born Iowa.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Russell Parrott.

My greatgrandfather Joseph came to this country as a young man and he was a mail carrier in and around Cadys Corners or present day Frazier. He also had two brothers who came here also...I believe one of them married a Simms. My great uncle would have been their eldest child...Enos....trying to locate his grave...I think he died around 1937 give or take a couple of years

Does anyone know if Daniel Henry Parrott of Hawkins County, Tenn., served in both armies during the Civil War. I recently saw a post listing him as a member of the 19th Tennessee (CSA)Infantry Regiment (the Hawkins Boys). But I'm pretty sure his a U.S. grave marker listing him as a member of a Union Cavalry regiment. Anyone out there care to shed light. As I understand it, Daniel Henry married Elizabeth "Lizzie" Bean in 1862 and they had a number of children, including daughter Cordelia "Cordie" Parrott. Cordie had two sons (Robert and Barnett Parrott) out of wedlock.Barnett Parrott (1898-1982)was my maternal grandfather. His daughter, Ruth Parrott Jones, was my mother.

Bill Jones
(828) 803-3594

Bill Jones
He married Sarah Bettle, who was born in Cranfield, Bedfordshire.

Their son, Joseph, my gg grandfather, was born in 1864 in Wootton, and married Elizabeth Lay (b. 1863 in Stagsden).

They came to Canada in 1906, settling in Oshawa, Ontario.

I'm having a hard time finding any info for the family prior to John. If anyone here has any information on this family, I would love to hear from you.

Thank you.

- Sean

After relooking at your post and through my records it looks like I have a copy of John Parrott and Sarah Greens Marriage Certificate. It is obviously a copy of a copy and is pretty poor however this is what it says

"Certificate of Marrage.

To Whom it may Concern:

This Certifies that John Parrott of this City of Hamilton County of Wentworth and Sarah Green of this City of Hamilton County of Wentworth UNREADABLE duty married by and on the Seventh day of July in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty Six confermably to the Laws of Canada.

In Presence of John Ketcher
Rich A. Parrott

William M... UNREADABLE
A Minister of Methodist UNREADABLE"

Hope this helps - not sure who the Parrott is who was a witness but it looks like they weren't married in Galt after all.
Benjamin PARROTT Cemetery near Hartsville, SC

On a recent trip to Darlington, SC, researching John STEWART, Jr., we visited a small cemetery called the Benjamin PARROTT Cemetery (and according to the Darlington District Cemetery Survey, local tradition indicates that Captain John STUART of the Revolutionary War is buried in this cemetery in an unmarked grave) near Hartsville, SC. This cemetery has not been maintained and has been overtaken by nature, but we did find three headstones lying on the ground for the following individuals:

Eliza C. PARROTT, 22 Mar 1845-14 Jul 1917, wife of J. T. (Jacob T.) TRUETT, 24 May 1855-3 Jun 1918, shared stone (daughter of Lemuel PARROTT)
TRUETT Infant of J. T. TRUETT and E. C. TRUETT, 5 Apr 1882-5 Apr 1882
Lemuel H. PARROTT, 5 May 1805-23 Dec 1880 and wife Eliza PARROTT, 18 Aug 1810-30 Oct 1890, shared stone (son of Benjamin PARROTT)

I am not related to the PARROTT family, but wanted to share this cemetery information. On Ancestry, a few Family Trees submitted for Benjamin PARROTT contain this sentence, "Benjamin was buried in the Stuart burying grounds about 10 or 15 feet southwest of old Captain Stuart's grave. Benjamin's tombstone had all of the dates on it. It was ruined by vandals who tipped over a lot of monuments in the cemetery prior to 1975." I contacted one of submitters, who did not have a source for this statement, but believed it may have been included in a magazine entitled "Parrott Talk", published in the 1970's.

I am hoping that someone in the PARROTT family may have more information on this cemetery or has access to the "Parrott Talk" publications and will share that information with me. I believe the cemetery is located on what was once STEWART land and may be the burial grounds for many more of our STEWART ancestors.

Hi Gemma
The William H Parrott I am interested in was born 1880: his first marriage was to Ada E Tammadge and there were 3 children Dorothy Ada, James W H and Florence G. Parrott. His first wife Ada died in 1913. His second marriage in 1919 was to my ancestor Mabel E Cox. It doesn't look as though this fits in with your William Parrott. His occupation was that of a Carrier/Carter at the time of his marriage. Regards Margaret

I'm looking for any information on Daniel Parrot of Hardin County Illinois. He and his wife died when their daughters were very young. Josie Parrot (my great grandmother) was sent to Georgia around the Atlanta area. When she was 15 yrs. old she married Charlie Spier (Monroe Co. Georgia May 1886). Her last name was spelled Parette on the marriage certificate. My grandfather William Oscar Spear was born in Nov. 1886. 3 years later she moved back to Hardin Co, Illinois with my grandfather. Her sister's name was Julia Ann (Lula) Parrott and stayed in Hardin Co. with the Hurford family. At the age of 18 she married Jesse Hurford. Any information would be greatly appreciated!
Deborah Spear-Williams

Clarifying the early Parrott families of North America

Here are a pair of heavily documented articles that manage to tease apart relationships and dismiss a lot of the lore that has arisen over the centuries:

Reksten, H and W Parrott. 2009. A re-examination of the relationships among the Parrott families of the American Colonies in the 17th century. Magazine of Virginia Genealogy Feb 47(1):21-43 & May 47(2):129-147.

The PDF files for these may now be freely downloaded from:

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~parrott/pa...
Hi cousin! :)
My great-grandmother was also Bertha Agnes Parrott, who did indeed marry Henry Campbell. And she was the daughter of Perry Parrott and Barbara Ann Deuel (spelled "Denel" in one of our docs, but was in fact Deuel). Bertha and Henry did have a son Floyd Perry (who married Bernice Fuller), and 13 other children (7 sons, 7 daughters total). The youngest one of those was my grandmother. Contact me if you want more info.
