Thanks I have now been able to confirm Edwin's birth and family pre 1861. the census gives him as aged 21 so i had been looking for birth year 1840 qand born in Shropshire as it is not until the 1891 census that he says born in Flintshire. I had looked at his family but it was one of lots that were maybe s. so thanks very much. would love to contact sometime to exchange any other information we may have. I know lots most about his descendants. Vicki
vicki-bill@sky.com

Hi Wynne
have been trying to find birth death for Edwin Parry and am very interested to find anything about him as I gather he was a real character. He only had one leg amputated in the accident and he married Mary Hayward whose father was a surgeon/chemist/reistrar in Flint. I would be really keen to find any more info on Edwin. We knew that when he died there was a window put into one of the churches but had not been able to find which.Have plenty of info on descendants but not on Edwin pre 1861. My e-mail is vicki-bill@sky.com

Do you know Vicky, I have no knowledge of the surgeon Edwin Parry's descentants. However I can trace his Ancesters back with confidence back to the 1600's but without any actual records to pre 1300.

I live in Prestatyn which is about 3 miles from Newmarket. Have relatives who unfortunately are not related to the Parry's and who live in Trelawnyd. I have a cousin who farms on the egde of Dyserth nearer perhaps to Cwm

Not sure if our great grandfather Edwin Parry fits in any where. we know he was a surgeon and lived at the Old Hall Llanasa in 1891 and was living in the village 1871 and 1881 but have not been able to find his early roots other than his father was Henry Parry. according to census records sometimes he was born in Llanasa, but not always.
I posted a message about Edwin Parry surgeon of Old Hall
Dear Wynne
Llanasa 2 years ago on curious fox but only recently came across your reply. I have tried several times to contact you but have had no reply. My husband is the grandson of Edwin Brookfield and we have a lovely photo of him in his wheelchair after he lost one leg in the accident on the railway. would love to hear from you as he is a bit of a mystery to us and apart from the census and lots of family stories we have not been able to locate his death or where he was buried. We still have family in Dyserth so do visit 2 or 3 times a year. I look forward to hearing from you. Vicki Brookfield

I was glad to be able to help, Lucy.

There are some links to other people's pedigrees from the various census entries on Ancestry, so perhaps you'll find a few new relatives as well (although at least one looks to be connecting the wrong Robert, so do check things out properly).

I'd be grateful for any details that you can confirm. Thank you. It all helps with building up the information for the Parry ONS.

Best wishes
Barbara

I will follow up all this info and post any definite findings.

Your website is fantastic, well done for the dedication, I know how much time this takes and also how addictive it is. They are all willing to help with any remaining old documents etc so I am looking forward to what we find.

Anything I find in relation to your site I will forward,

Sincerely,

Lucy :)

I'm not related to this family so could be wrong, but I suggest you may want to look at the entry in 1911 for the family at RG14; Piece: 22646, consisting of
Name Age
Robert Parry 43
Ernest Parry 17
Albert Parry 13
Doris Parry 10
Emma Parry 1
Emma Elizabeth Hubberd 35
Arthur George Hubberd 11
Richard Ledger Hubberd 8
Mary Louisa Hubberd 7

Both Robert and Emma describe themselves as married, so the census entry looks like two married people, without their spouses, who just happen to be boarding together. And I can find both, with spouses, in earlier censuses.

However, trees on Ancestry confirm Emma's maiden name as Townsend. Tracing possible entries for Robert show that, in 1871 (RG11; Piece: 3960; Folio: 25; Page: 1; ) there's a likely Robert who has a brother called Samuel Hopkinson Parry.

In 1911, there's quite a gap between the Doris Parry and the Emma Parry - finding out who that Emma's mother is may be helpful. There are also two other births in the West Derby area which may be helpful for confirming addresses or Robert's occupation etc:

Surname First name(s) Mother District Vol Page
Births Dec 1912
Parry Florence L Townsend W.Derby 8b 1238

Births Dec 1913
Parry Alice Townsend W.Derby 8b 1158

Emma Elizabeth's possible first marriage (from FreeBMD so 4 marriages on the page):
Surname First name(s) District Vol Page
Marriages Sep 1897
Clarke Peter Thomas W. Derby 8b 1068
Hubbard Richard W. Derby 8b 1068
Richardson Lydia W. Derby 8b 1068
Townsend Emma Elizabeth W Derby 8b 1068

And possible marriage of Robert's parents:
Marriages Jun 1862
Hopkinson Ann Ellen Chorlton 8c 554
Horrocks Maria Esther Chorlton 8c 554
Parry Thomas Frederick Chorlton 8c 554
Tinker James Kinder Chorlton 8c 554

I hope that gives you a few possible leads to follow up, at least.

Best wishes
Barbara
www.parryone-namestudy.org.uk

Robert Hopkinson Parry late 1800's

Hi, my name is Lucy nee Parry and I am at a loss with my Great Grandfather, hoping someone out there will have come across him. I have my Grandfathers, 'Benjamin Townsend Parry' birth certificate stating his father, 'Robert Hopkinson Parry' and mother, 'Emma Elizabeth Townsend'. Benjamin was born in 1917. I have been basing my searches around the West Derby area due to address given at time of birth but nothing? Have done worldwide search but nothing? Well an absolute mountain of Robert H's not helpful?? Anyone with knowledge of the Hopkinson name, possibly Roberts mother? Ancestry.co.uk has been very good to me until now researching my mothers Irish ancestry....I thought my English side would be easy....I was wrong. Any help appreciated, pointers in right searches etc. Thanks :)

Amy PARRY b.1889 Fulham, MIddlesex/London

Can anyone shed any light on the fate of Amy Parry born in March 1889 in Fulham to James & Agnes Parry (nee Baker). Amy had 3 sibblings: Edward Richard; Emma Elizabeth and Ellen. As far as I can establish Ellen Parry died, but the death was recorded as Helen (rather then Ellen). Amy was alive in 1911 - the census showed that she was living at the family home in Barclay Road, Fulham with her parents and sibblings. Her mother died in 1913 and her father in 1924 and the will of James lists the only beneficiaries as Edward & Emma - there was no reference to Amy. Something happened between 1911 and 1924 to Amy Parry, but there are no records of her death. Did she emigrate, did she go to Europe to nurse the wounded in the 1914-18 war, did she elope and marry?

Any clues or information would be much appreciated to close this puzzle.

With regard to Henry Parry, I have traced his Parry via Parish records back to Edward Parry born in 1630, and further using other means. I also have a record of the decendants of Reginald Heber Parry who was born in 1880 and died in Natal in 1952, I understand he married Dora Knolles Green and had three children. Two girls and a boy all born in south africa. This is the extent of my information.
I wasn't aware of him being a Reverend.

I do remember an Uncle Tim being mentioned-either a family name or it was fairly common at the time. I have George Herbert's birth certificate but can't get any more detail. He moved to Lingfield as a young man to be an agricultural labourer on the racecourse. His elder sister Emily had married a George Hill who put in a good word for him - he had some authority but I don't know what his job was. George married Kate but I didn't know her as she died whilst having an operation, when my father was about 21.George married Alice later who I called Aunty Alice. I doubt if Timothy was 'your' Timothy as the dates don't seem quite right.Disappointing.

Hi Lynette! My great grandfather Thomas Parry (born 1862) in the Cobblers Plain ( also known as Llanfihangel Tory Myndd)or Wolvesnewton area of Monmouth, Wales.???But...the family was originally from around the Trelleck/Tintern area.
He had a younger brother Timothy who was also born in this area around 1865-66. Thomas and Timothy moved from Monmouth to Treforest, Glamorgan when they were young men..to work in the tin mill and coal mines. Do you know any more about Timothy? Who he married?

I have the birth certificate of my Grandfather, George Herbert Parry, who was born in 1883. His father was Timothy Parry. My Grandfather was registered as living in Cleddon, Trelleck. As a young [?] man he moved to Lingfield, Surrey, married & had four children. One of these, Victor Leslie Parry, was my father. Could we [I have a brother, Robin] be relations of yours?
Lynette Davies [nee Parry]

You don't mention any dates, so this "educated guesswork" but is it possible Ella had been married before?

I can find:
Marriages Dec 1937
Surname First name(s) Spouse District Vol Page
Parry William Smith Newport 11a 454
Smith Ella M Parry Newport 11a 454

Then back in 1911:
Marriages Sep 1911
Surname First name(s) District Vol Page
Brown Fanny S Monmouth 11a 39
Brown Frederick Monmouth 11a 39
Smith Frank Monmouth 11a 39
Watkins Ella M Monmouth 11a 39

It isn't possible to confirm whether Ella M Watkins is marrying Frank Smith, unless you obtain the marriage certificate or check the church records (assuming they married in a church, rather than a registry office)- it may be worth trying the Forest of Dean site at http://www.forest-of-dean.net/fodmembers/index.php?mode=page... in case it has been transcribed.

The marriage of William Parry to Ella M Smith should also show whether she was widowed or not, and what her maiden name was.

Regards
Barbara Griffiths

Hi Bruce,

Thanks for making contact.

I think that I have established that my Great Great Great Grandfather was a Walter Parry. He was born in about 1798 and married a woman called Catherine (although a couple of other records suggest that the name might have been Elizabeth or Caroline). Walter Parry had 8 children as far as I can tell-
Eliza Harriett (1829)
Henry (1831)
Richard (1835)
Caroline (1836)
William (1838)
Louisa (1840)
George (1844)
Benjamin (1846)

My branch of the family was through Richard (my Great Great Grandfather). Richard married an Elizabeth Pickton on Christmas Day 1852 at St Mary's Church, Putney in South-west London. They in turn had 9 children
Edward c.1855
Thomas George 26 Oct 1857
Alfred c.1860
Walter c.1862
Caroline c.1863
Benjamin c.1864
James between Jan-Mar 1866
Jane c.1872
Amelia c.1874

My Great Grandfather was James who married an Agnes Mary Baker on 14 June 1886. They had four children
Edward Richard
Emma Elizabeth
Amy
Ellen

It would be nice to compare the information that you have gathered, along with relations in Australia. What branch of the Parry's does your wife come from? I am trying to piece togther the Baker and Pickton sides of the family so any information would be appreciated.

Regards,

Alan Parry.
1) There is a newspaper item in Australia 18 August 1913 - mentioning a 19yo Edgar Parry - who arrived in Australia 1911 from England. As of that date - he was in Adelaide - South Australia. Headline : Adelaide Road Accidents.

2) There was an Edgar Parry who was a high profile Hotelier in Western Australia - but was perhaps active there earlier than 1912. After his death (1922?) - his wife and family continued to have a significant public profile. Possible probate file in WA dated 1923. A newspaper article about his wife : Western Mail (Perth, WA : 1885-1954) < Thursday 12 November 1931 >Page 14 of 120 pages - mentions that she was from Monmouthshire. Her name mentioned "Mrs M C Parry".

Australian newspapers to 1954 are being digitised : http://trove.nla.gov.au

This is a free resource and well worth a look if you are doing some Australia research.

Cheers : Lindsay

I'm looking for information regarding the parents of David Parry. He was born in 1773 in Cheshire. I'm coming up with a bit of a dead end. I have his wife as Mary Jones but I'm not entirely convinced on that.

Thanks Jennie
