I think you are on to something bramek. I descend from Oliver S. Patch born in New Boston, NH 1802. I believe he is the younger brother of Reuben in your post. I know Oliver and 2 other brothers settled in Wales, Erie County, New York with their father, Stephen Patch. They operated a mill there. He (Oliver) married and had his children in Wales and then moved out west, as it appeared some of his other siblings and cousins did. He moved to Iowa, Minnesota, Iowa again, and then died in Cook County, Illinois in 1889.

Patch Family buried in Morrisville Town Cemetery

Hi! Trying to find my PATCH cousin. Her real name is Virginia Mary Verba, her mother was Winnie Patch, daughter of Vernon W. Patch. Virginia died as a baby on 6/23/1951 in Burlington. She was buried in a PATCH family plot at the Morrisville Town Cemetery. Not sure, but the story in the family is that she is buried alongside another Patch baby who died young as well. Don't know who donated the grave to share. On her death certif, she's just listed as Baby Girl Verba. Please help. We greatly want to either bring her to be by her folks & older brother, or at least, give her a headstone. She has a younger brother who is the only one left from that family group. I hope this sounds familiar to someone... Thanks you, Linda Asaro of NJ

Patch family from NH....2 Bibles Belonging to

I rescued 2 family Bibles from Goodwill in Concord NH. They belonged to Parker Patchs wife Dorothy Kelley Parker and the other belonged to their adopted daughter, his niece..brothers daughter, Barbara. Anyone interested in having them? One was given to Barbara on Oct. 7, 1934 and Dorothys was on Dec. 3, 1960. There is no information other than what is written in each of the fronts of the Bibles. Dorothy's says,"My Dearest Friend Dorothy Patch Dec. 3, 1960 for friendship and love, Ethel Fambly (sp?)....has a piece of papertower with a pressed leaf inside." Barbara's say's "Presented to Barbara Patch by the Junior Department of the Church School Oct. 7, 1934 Goffstown, NH....it has a cross made of what looks like paper but isn't." Then in researching the family to find someone that might be interested in them I also found and copied the marriage certificate for Patch and Dorothy. Certificate of death for Parker Plummer Patch, born 4/16/05 married to a Ruth Brown Patch at time of death. Please email me at Mountainlover2@yahoo.com if you are interested. Cindy Baker Borges

Patch family in Somerset, Niagara Co., NY in 1830

I am looking for a Mrs. Patch who lived on the Coleman Rd who was to have sent her son next door to call on the new neighbors named Westcott. Apparently she had an older sister who married a man by that name and had never heard from her since. Mrs. Patch's son returned and said Mrs. Westcott looked like her. Mrs. Patch went to see and it turned out they were sisters. This inf. came from an article from the Niagara County Historical Soc. publication dated July 1960.

My ancestor Amaziah Wescott/Westcott/Wescoat, etc. was living in Lockport in 1830 and I was wondering if there was a family connection. Amaziah's wife was Mary/Polly Castle and I do not know anything else on the Castle family.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone from this line. Thank you.
Jeanne,
I do not have a Nathaniel Jacob Patch in my records. I am descended from Jacob's daughter Mary who married a Hazen so have not followed the offspring of future generations. By the naming pattern,I think you can be reasonable certain that your Nathaniel comes from this same line. I suspect that Benjamin's children may have ventured further west from Vermont. Good luck in your search.

Patch family - Augusta, Ga

My girlfriend yesterday gave me an old picture - she isn't sure exactly where she go but thought I might like it.

It is a picure - most likely from the 1920's (give or take a few years) and it has 3 children...

Edward, Brahnam and Marie Patch, Augusta Ga. I found a Walter B. Patch, wife Susie, and several children - there was an Edward and Marie and a son named Walter B that looked age wise that this could be the right family.

Is anyone researching this family - I would love for this picture to find the right home! But, if push comes to shove, I will gladly keep the picture and assume we are related in some way since I - would you believe - am from Nathaniel Jacob Patch & Hannah Garrett's son Bryan Nathaniel Patch out of Ohio!

thanks, jeanne

I really haven't learned anything new. I don't see how I could possibly find anything since the census records don't childrens first names. Possibly if I was able to have someone search the Patch Wills their might be some names of siblings that would give me a hint, but then there would always make me wonder if in fact I had the right names.

Have you considered Theophilus H Patch may be the son of one of the other brothers named for his uncle and the maiden name of his grandmother.

Isaac Patch b. 1778 s/o Jonathan Patch and Anna Hull seems a likely candidate. Jonathan and Anna are also the parents of Theophilus Patch b. 1769.

this on-line tree has a son Theodore H Patch b. 1802
http://awt.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=wstipe...

If you check the census indexes only one Theodore shows up between 1800-1840. That's in 1800 the same and only year Theophilus is missing from the indexes.

Theophilus b. 1768 MA is my 3C5R as is his brother Isaac.

I was once in the position you find yourself. I looked everywhere for my ggg-grandparent's ancestors - David Patch married2 Mary Toothaker. Finally six months after I posted a message I got a response from a 4th cousin that gave me Mary's children by her first marriage and her ancestors. Six months after that another reply to the same message now over a year old gave me my David's children by his first marriage and his ancestors. Also volunteer help played a vital role. So don't give up.

Katherine
Texas

T. Hull and Desdemona Jackson Patch of Johnson, vermont

Hello. I am seeking a link for my Patch grandparents to the larger Patch Database.
THeophilus Hull(T.Hull) Patch was born in New Hampshire in 1802 (US Census), lived in JOhnson, Vermont with his wife Desdemona (Jackson) and at least one daughter Ellen Francis in 1865. Ellen Francis married Carroll Smalley Page of Hyde Park Vermont who went on to become Governor and then US Senator of the State. T. Hull later moved to Morristown Vermont and married again to a much younger woman named Louella.
I am guessing T.Hull's father is Theophilus Hull Patch who married ReEbecca Stanley-- both born in Massachusetts, and both dying in Greenfield, New Hampshire. BUt Theophilus is not listed as one of their 9 children in any database I can find.
maybe I should be hunting up another tree? ANy ideas would be helpful
In the meantime you might check with the DAR people in Groton, Mass. He has a marker on his grave as does Jacob, my ancestor. The library in Groton has a research section. You might give them a call. Please email me at wilkers.m@comcast.net and remind me to check my notes when I return home.
Martha Wilkerson

Abial or Abiel Patch of Maine (or Vermont)

This was in a number of 1903 newspapers:
______________________________________

From the Anaconda Standard of Anaconda, Montana of Feb 5 1903 (page 12)

GONE JUST TWENTY YEARS

Farmer Returns After Going Out To Feed The Chickens
From the Chicago Chronicle

Abiel Patch was a soldier in the civil war, and when the war ended he returned to his native place in Vermont. There he was married a few years later. He bought a good farm and with his wife lived there happily nearly 15 years. By industry he acquired a goodly amount of property.

Patch took a pan of corn at 4 p.m. Dec 27 1882 and started for the poultry house to feed his hens. When he did not return for supper his wife hunted all over the place for him, but in vain. The next day a searching party was formed by the neighbors and the forests for miles around were searched, but without finding a trace of the missing man. After a few days the search was abandoned. No letter ever came nor was any inkling of the whereabouts of Patch ever received.

While Mrs. Patch was preparing for supper the other evening there was a rap at the door. She opened the door, and an old man with a long grey beard stepped in. There was something about his face or figure that looked familiar to Mrs. Patch and when the old man told her he was Abiel Patch, she thought he was playing a prank on her. When he showed her a peculiar ring which her husband had always worn and the scar of a severe bullet wound on the side of his head which he received at Cold Harbor in the civil war, there was no further doubt of his identity.

"I left home because I wanted excitement," said Patch later in explaining his long absence. "I got tired of farming and started out into the woods. I have been all over the forests of northern Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine and have killed hundreds of deer and moose. I didn't intend to ever come back and I hoped my wife would marry again, but I heard a little while ago that she hadn't. I thought I would see her once more before I died. The winters have been pretty cold lately and I couldn't stand it much longer in the woods."

Patch did not think his wife would welcome him home, but as she has done so, he says he will remain.
________________

The above story is also in the Delphos Daily Herald (of Delphos, Ohio) of Feb 21 1903 (page 2)

What an interesting story you have with the name change, etc. I do know that the son of one of the Patch boys in my book went to Maine.
He was Jacob Patch, Jr. who became a doctor and died in Camden, Maine in 1846. He was a graduate of Dartmouth Medical School.

Congratulations on the book. I think it is wonderful that you should have the knowledge of this history of your family. I supposedly have some Patch in my history but don't know for sure of names ect. Family history has it that in about 1845 my 2nd great grandfather left Maine area and came south to the Md/PA boarder because he saw something that caused him to fear for his life. He changed his name from Patch to Emory. His first name was Charles but I don't know if he took Charles as a new name as well or not. He said he had brothers named John, Samuel, William and Robert plus himself. Of course much has been done to try and figure out this mystery but I suppose we will never know. But once again congratulations on your book.

As a descendant of Jacob Patch of Groton, Mass. I have written a historical
narrative describing the ordeal of Jacob and Simon Patch and their return from
the Battle of White Plains. Simon was wounded in that battle and, Jacob, his
brother transported him home to Groton on a litter strapped to the stirrups
of the horse's saddle over terrible roads in horrific weather conditions. Simon later died of his wounds. This book is available on Amazon.com and provides
a glimpse into the lives of this 18th century family during the Revolution.
