Andrea,
There is further information on the web site you referred to that explains there is "a difference in the DNA test results for Obed and Joshua Patty. Joshua Walker Patty [believed to be a descendant of Jesse Patty of Union County, South Carolina] is a genetic distance of 2 with Obed and two others. They probably shared an ancestor 18-24 generations ago, well before Colonial America."

Could you please send me by direct email the details of DNA testing for your great-nephew?

sylvia.cousin AT yahoo.com
Regards,
Sylvia
Forgive my ignorance as I am new to looking at the Patty/Petty family, and there seem to be few family trees online; however, on the Patty Family DNA Project, Results page, there is a 100% DNA match listed between Obediah Patty, who died in 1843, in McMinn County, Tennessee, and Jesse Paty who died in 1795 in SC.

So, is the Obediah Patty who died in 1843 in McMinn County, Tennessee (and who matches Jesse Paty), a different Obediah from the son of Sarah West?

Secondly, I am actually trying to do some research for a great-nephew, b. 1991, who, unfortunately, does not know who his father is, and is naturally curious to see what he can find. His mother lived in the areas of Somerville and Houston, TX, so the father was likely living in one of those areas.

I have had the great-nephew DNA tested, and so far he is also a 100% (47/47) match for both Obediah Patty, d. 1843, McMinn Co. TN, and Jesse Paty, d. 1795, SC.

Sarah West story debunked

To all Ancestry.com subscribers who have Patty surname in your trees:
When someone orders a test and has a good paper trail back to Sarah West, then we will gladly announce it.

Several postings at Patty Genforum http://genforum.genealogy.com/cgi-bin/pageload.cgi?west::pat... and WorldFamilies http://www.worldfamilies.net/forum/index.php?topic=8801.0 should clear up the misconception of the story. That story of Josiah, Zorobabel and Obediah Patty being sons of Sarah West and Jesse Patey has been debunked by record and DNA testing. DNA testing shows that the descendant of Jesse Paty/Patey/Patty of Union County South Carolina a genetic distance of as much as 18 generations from the descendants of Obediah and Josiah. Further, the apprentice record from Pittsylvania County Virginia, does not tie parentage of Sarah West's sons to Jesse Patey. It is merely an apprentice record, no more no less. In addition, there are numerous records of the three sons of Sarah West, still with the name of West, in subsequent records in Virginia. Please help stop the proliferation of the erroneous information. MPW, SPS

I've just requested birth records on Ned.

Nora Burns is my GG Aunt. I know she married John Patty because everything in the Starke County license application is correct. There are different years of John's death posted and I have not been able to confirm anything with Indiana Vital Records. I think Nora married once more after John Patty's death, in 1933. After that I have lost track of my aunt -- I'm hoping the 1940 Census will give me a clue.

I found the following several years ago, but I can't remember where:

John engaged in the work of teaming and farming, and was skillful in raising and training horses. He supplied teams to the C&O railroad. John married when he was about fifty, sold his farm north of Winamac and moved to Morgan County, Indiana, where he met his death by accident. He was working in the timber and was crushed to death by a falling tree. He never had any children.

I doubt if Nora is buried with John since she remarried at least one more time, but I would like to get a definite date of death for John to wrap up that relationship.

I'm looking for information on John Patty (born in Cass County in 1859?) and Honora (Nora) Burns Patty (born in Indiana in 1867). They were married in Starke County, Indiana, Nov 4 1907. Nora died in Indiana in the 1940s or 1950s. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

What is it that you would like to share? Norman Laws sent me photo's and one was of Robert Patty. You should know Norman. We all must be related through Charles Patty/Paty of Virginia. It is believed that he is the father of my ggf James Patty 1814 SC/GA/AL.
Can we talk more about this?
We would like to have a Patty man of Josiah Patty lineage, Roane County, TN to test in the Patty surname DNA Project. All other Patty lineages are welcome to join, too. Many of these lines can only be sorted out through testing their DNA. All of the Patty's did not descend from one Patty man in Colonial Virginia as proven out in the study,
Sylvia

All Patty-related folks are welcome to submit theirs, too. We hope to get as many family lines connected as we can.
Hi Teresa,
It's good to hear from someone who I think knows of Kenneth's PATTY/WEBB line. I hope that is right, because I have been curious as to the Webb family and their history. Don't you find it helpful to study the related families, too? It would be great to know more about the Webb's and your related line. There is a place to post those pedigrees on the message board at WorldFamilies on the PATTY DNA project there. I will be happy to send you a link.
Regards, Sylvia

Have you seen the PATTY DNA project at Worldfamilies? It would be great to add your wife's Patty pedigree to the site as you would gain more coverage there. There are some family lines that were thought to be related, but they are NOT! One of those is Malinda Hensley who married a VEST. Are you related to Malinda? Look at the Patriarchs that are listed on the Patty site.
If you need a link to this webpage, just ask and I will give it to you.
Regards, Sylvia

I hope you are still checking this board or it lets you know that this has been posted.

Clementine Narcissus Patty married Samuel H. Gibson Jan 01, 1857 in Sevier County, TN. They are both buried at the Laurel Grove Cemetery in Sevier County. They had at least 6 children, Steve, Sarah Jane, Nancy Isabella, Mary D., John A, and Martha.

Nancy Isabella Gibson married Marion Stallans according to the data I have. She also is buried at the Laurel Grove Cemetery.

I hope this is helpful.

Wendell Hensley
