Hi, I am not sure who posted this but this is my family. I am the Grandaughter of James and my great aunt and uncles were Torino, Samuel, Joseph and Venice. Unfortunately at this time they have all passed except for Venice. Rocco is an older Cousin of mine who I am sure was closest to my grandfather, but is probably closer to my father James than myself. We use the surname Paolino but my cousins go by Paulino. Please do let me know if there is more research on our family !

This is very interesting information. When we moved to MA, many people would ask us if the Paulino last name was Italian. We even had an Italian guy whose last name was Pauline ask us and state that he believed the last name was changed to Paulino upon entrance to the U.S. from Europe. It's amazing how with a lil research you can find so many relatives that you never would have thought existed. The Paulino last name, has to be one of the largest widely spread last names in history, with descendants as far back as Europe all the way to the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. Truely amazing.

My Name is Juan Paulino, I am from Dominican Republic. The Paulino Family is from Italian Ancestry. I am originally from Santo Domingo. My father is from San Juan de la Maguana and my grandfather from San Francisco de Macoris. In San Francisco de Macoris, Dominican Republic, the Paulino Family is well known. There is even a hill called, "Loma de los Paulinos" in San Francisco de Macoris. During the 1940's the Paulino family and the Camilo family had bloddy fights with each other. The then President and Dictator Rafael L. Trujillo decided to take out the Paulino family and spread them across the other provinces of the Dominican Republic.

I hope this helps on your investigations. But above all, remember that the mayority of the Dominican families came from Europe. The Paulino family has its roots in Italy.

I am Mark Paulino, brother of Robert Paulino of New Jersey whose paternal grandfather is Louis Paulino who was the first, in terms of generation, born in the US. Our greatgrandfather's name was spelled Paolino as well as his wife (Concetta Mastrioni- maiden name) and at least one of our uncles (i.e., Nicholas Paolino). Apparently our grandfather's name was changed due to some sort of clerical error at St. Paul's Church in Princeton, NJ (USA). SInce ethnic names were subject to multiple spellings years ago, this was neither uncommon nor seen as a problematic issue. If anyone recognizes these names, please let us know. Thanks!

I am married to a Paulino who is originally from the Dominican Republic. Upon a trip to the Dominican Republic, I was amazed at how many Paulino's there are. Even where I live now in Massachusetts there are many Paulino's whom also are originally from the Dominican Republic. My husban was born in Licey al Medio, Moca, Dominican Republic and there continue to be many Paulino's in that vacinity among other areas in the Dominican. If anyone has any info regarding the Paulino History or who is from the same area as my husband, please advise.

Also, my husban has two brothers and a sister who reside with their father in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, so incase anyone is from that area, please reply as well. Please, please ask your family about your ancestry, it's not an embarassing question, to want to know where your family came from. You'll be sorry later, if you don't ask. Thanks.
Paulino's

It was a very common practice in the early 1900's, for The Ellis Island Immigration Authority, in New York City, to change immigrants names on entering the USA to make them sound more American. How times have changed? They changed Paolino to Paulino. They changed my maternal grandparents names from Atoyian to Atoeff, and Philobosian to Phillips. I am 1/2 Armenian(Atoyian and Philobosian), 1/4 Italian(Paulino), 1/8 Irish(McCloskey), and 1/8 English(Hubbard). What an interesting combination? But people tell me I look German, because of light brown hair(used to be blond) and blue eyes. Good luck locating your geneology. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, and Great-Grandparents are usually an excellant source for that information.

I want to know so much about my ancestors. But I don't know where to begin, especially since we don't have any kind of records.
It is very interesting to know how the name was changed when your relatives came here.

The name Paulino in Italy was actually spelled Paolino. Our name was changed at Ellis Island when our relatives came to America. A lot of Paulino's are in the Dominican Rep. It could also be of Spanish origin. I don't know.

Hi Robert! It is very ironic that I used to tell people when they asked me what ethnic background I came from that I would tell them I was Italian. I only said that because it sounded Italian. Now I know that there are Paulino's in Italy. I wish I could find out what "Paulino" went to the Philippines.

We are of Italian descent. My paternal granfather, Louis Paulino was the first generation of his family of Paulino's born here in the USA. His parents were from Naples, Italy. They came to America some time around 1905-1909, and settled in Princeton, NJ.

I don't know the total history of the Paulino name in the world. But to my knowledge the Paulino is a very famouse name in the Dominican Republic. Very known and it has a place in the history of the country where Politics was a big ifluence in the Paulino family. In that name there exists honor and loyalty. I'm proud to be a Paulino and with pride I will mention it to everybody.
