Johnathon PEACOCK is my great-great grandfather on my mother's side of the family, and he did have a brother, George PEACOCK (b: abt 1812; d: ukn). My records indicate they were both born in England

My records also show that their parents were James PEACOCK (b: abt 1776 in Yorkshire, England), and Elizabeth MITCHEL (b: abt 1778 in England).

James and Elizabeth were married 30 Jul 1796, in Kirby, Fleetham, York, England. George was married in England in 1837 to Mary WELLS, and Johnathon married Eliza HAMMOND 17 Sep 1856, also in England.

There was nine years difference in the ages of George and Johnathon, did they have any other brothers or sisters?

Please drop me a line ...........

Hello,
Jonathan Peacock was brother to my 4th great grandfather, George Peacock. Their parents were George Peacock (1778-1821) and Ellen Hudson (1787-1822). George was the son of Jonathan Peacock and Mary Wright of Yorkshire, England.
I have an extensive amount of information about the Hudson family which I can send too if you would like. I also have a photograph of Jonathan and Eliza's son, Frank.
Are you related to the family and if so, where do you come in?
Thanks,
Shella

There are a number of Peacocks in the records and I assume that they are related but I am uncertain as to how they are related. There was a William Peacock (Jr) and his wife Mary who buried a daughter in the Mfelt Church of Ireland in 1718 and baptised another in 1719. They had at least 8 children but the only son I could find died in 1733. There was also an Oliver Peacock and an Andrew Peacock who were contemporaries of the above William Jr. If there was a junior there must have been a William sr. who was perhaps the original settler ca 1690 and the others sons. This of course is speculation. If you wish, I can send a GEDCOM containing whatever Peacock information I have gleaned from the records. Email me at ronaldjdale@netscape.net if you so wish.

John Peacock b. 1698 Scotland was kidnapped by a ship's sailors and brought to America. Sold as indentured servant, so their would be no immigration records. He was very young. First record of him in 1714 said that he sawed his first log, he must have been about 16 yrs old.

I forgot to say that if you do Facebook, I have family photos in some of my albums of the Peacocks that are close relatives to me...

Facebook name: Loren Fay

albums with Peacocks: Family Resting Places with some gravestones of Peacock relatives among other names...

Bartlett Relatives album has some old portraits of John and Levina Peacock, and their daughter Anna Peacock Bartlett, photos of their farm and kids and grandkids...

our John Peacock had a Jesse among his descendants, and my grandmother was always called Anna Peacock, b. 1882 d. 1945, she married Fred Bartlett in 1902 and they had eight children... all eight have gravestones in the Family Resting Places album... my mom was the youngest of the eight, b. 1922 and d. 1986.

The Fred Bartletts are also visible on Find A Grave in the Glenwood Cemetery, Homer, NY.

After finding the Peacock census records from Hunts, England, I also began a new album about that with records and references.

A William Peacock also came over to the USA in the 1850s and went west to settle in Iowa, Kansas or Nebraska... we don't know a lot about him, but there are a couple of photos I found of them and I put them in the Bartlett relatives album... I may eventually find more about him thru the Ancestry.com...

Loren Fay
Albany, NY, USA.

Hi Loren. I had a researcher look up my grandmother's family in Huntingdonshire, Cambridgeshire and the surrounding area in the early 1990s. Her grandfather Thomas Abraham (great grandson of Jesse and Ann Peacock) came to the US in 1873 and settled in the same part of Michigan where we still live, near Kalamazoo. If you want to email me at otlink@aol.com I can send you a link for my online stuff on the family. It's always good to find another cousin!
I have looked in the 1841, 1851 and 1861 censuses of Hunts on the Ancestry.com site, using the free access at my local library... that led me to John Peacock, b. 1829 in Spaldwick, Hunts, and to his parents William and Elizabeth Peacock... the 1851 gives the birth parish for them all, so that is the clue i have used to look further in Spaldwick, Tilbrook and Buckden (her b.place). I don't have quick access to the parish registers, but may eventually get info from them. I have family in Salt Lake City near the Family History Library, but they are very busy working on the project to index the 1940 USA census, which is being released next month online... eventually we will get to the registers for more info on the Peacocks...

It is good to see that cousins are also interested in the UK.

Loren Fay
Albany, NY, USA

Yes, Jesse and Ann Peacock did have a son William, baptized 20 September 1795 in Tilbrook, but I don't know anything else about him. Jesse also had brothers John (b. 1764) and William (b. 1774) who lived in Tilbrook - again I don't know anything else about them! Hope this helps a little. Len

14. SARAHETTE (SARAH E.) MATTHEWS b. 11AUG1848 (ca. 1850), m. Eastport, Washington Co., ME by the Rev. C. L. Haskel 26JUL1871 (8MAY1871?) MATTHEW PEACOCK (b. NB ca. 1836-7 (11AUG1846?), d. Eastport, Washington Co., ME 10JUN1881 age 44 (or 42) years), s/o Robert and Mary Peacock.
When married, Mathew was of St. Andrew's, Charlotte Co., NB. Possibly the Mathew Peacock b. ca. 1836, s/o a widow, Mary Peacock (b. Scotland ca. 1796 arrived in 1827) in St. Andrew's Parish in 1851. In 1880 Matthew Peacock (b. NB ca. 1840) was a huckster in Eastport, Washington Co., ME with both parents b. Scotland. With them was Stephen Matthews b. NB ca. 1856, working in a factory. Sarah and Stephen's parents were b. NB. Sarah and Matthew's children were: Claude (listed as a daughter but actually a son, 8), Lena (6), Mabel (3) and Myrtle (1), all b. ME. Soon after this census, in 1881, Matthew died leaving a widow and four children.
In his death notice, Matthew was the youngest brother of Robert Peacock of St. Andrew's. The Matthew in 1851 did have an elder brother, Robert (b. ca. 1832), so I assume he was the same Matthew. Mary Peacock d. Oak Bay, Charlotte Co., Nb 19OCT1878 age 83 years. She came from Wigtonshire, Scotland ca. 1827. The youngest daughter of Robert Peacock, Helen Peacock, m. 1868 James Jenkins. 'Hellen' in 1851 was the youngest, b. ca. 1839. In 1881 James Jenkins' wife, 'Hellen' was b. ca. 1839; so Matthew's father was Robert Peacock.
A daughter of Robert Peacock, Elizabeth, d. St. Andrew's Parish 17SEP1841 age 24 years and was b. Ballentrae (Ballantrae), Ayrshire, Scotland ca. 1817. Robert, Sr. d. 12APR1844.
Children:
141. CLAUDE TRAVALLIO PEACOCK b. 7JUL1872 (ca. 1872, APR1872), m. Eastport, Washington Co., ME by the Rev. John Tinling 7NOV1894 ABBIE J. LEIGHTON (b. JUL1875 (ca. 1875)), d/o Isaac N. and Laura L. Leighton of Pembroke, Washington Co., ME.
Abie J. was with her parents in 1880, and Claude J. and Abbie J. Peacock were in Pembroke, Washington Co., ME in 1900 when Claude was a riveter and binder in a sardine plant.
Children:
1411. LUCY M. PEACOCK b. APR1895
1412. ETHEL PEACOCK b. SEP1897
142. LENA PEACOCK b. ca. 1874, m. Eastport, Washington Co., ME by the Rev. F. W. Brooks 6DEC1897 JOHN ROBERT O'HEARN
Children:
1421. RALPH O. HEARNS (?) b. Eastport, Washington Co., ME 21OCT1898.
Apparently Ralph's surname was altered on his birth certificate.
143. MABEL PEACOCK b. ca. OCT1876 (ca. 1877), d. Eastport, Washington Co., ME 21MAR1888 age 11 years and 5 months
144. MYRTLE PEACOCK b. ca. 1879

Sarah was the d/o:

1. JOHN MATTHEWS (1st?) b. Eastport, ME ca. 1804, m. 11OCT1839 REBECCA WENTWORTH (b. L'Etete 18JUN1818), d/o Thomas and Martha (Mathews) Wentworth.

John was the s/o:

RICHARD MATTHEWS b. ca. 1770-6, d. Wilson's Beach, Campobello Island, Charlotte Co., NB 18FEB1856 age 86 years, m. 1st 3MAY1802 (13MAY1802, 8MAY1802) HANNAH FOUNTAIN (b. ca. 1782), d/o Stephen and Sarah Fountain; m. 2nd Eastport, ME ca. JAN1822 (2DEC1821/2?) Rebecca McVickers (b. ca. 1800; m. 1st? _____ Merriam), d/o of Nevin and Lydia (Cousins) McVicar.
According to, "Descendants of Francis Matthews", Dale Barteau, SEP2009, at:
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nbcampob/mtwsf.htm
Richard Matthews was a s/o Francis Matthews and descended from Francis and Thomasine (Channon) Matthews originally of Devonshire, England and later in Newcastle, New Hampshire. Richard settled on Campobello Island, Charlotte Co., NB. A brother, Sgt. Francis Matthews, later joined him.
The presence of a brother makes identifying Richard's children difficult with the exception of Stephen Matthews (ca. 1807) who appears to be certainly Richard's son. It is believed that Richard's brother left no family so the other relevant Matthews' could be assumed to be Richard's children as well. This is actually false, and Francis Matthews did leave children. The Richard's son, John Matthews, wife, Rebecca Wentworth, had a mother, Martha Mathews (b. ca. 1792.) This actually suggests that Sgt. Francis Matthews may have had children. Martha Mathews m. 12JUL1813 Thomas Wentworth. Was Martha a sister to Richard and Francis? Another, not included in the above web site, was Capt. Wm. A. Mathews b. ca. JUL1801, d. Eastport, ME 6JAN1852 age 50 years and 6 months. He is given as a s/o Charles Matthews (b. ca. 1781), brother of Richard and Francis. It appears that Richard's other brother, Thomas (ca. 1790) also left family in Charlotte Co.
On 5NOV1788 Francis Mathews bought land from David Owens in L'Etete, Charlotte Co., NB.

Richard Matthews was a Loyalist in the American Revolution. He and his family arrived in Saint John, New Brunswick on the transport ship "Cyrus" is SEP1783.

Thomas

My maternal great, great, grandfather was a New Jersey born PEACOCK. His name was Thomas H. Peacock, born in FEB 1847 according to data in the 1900 census. He lived in Philadelphia for the most part of his life, was a physician. He ended up back in New Jersey (Collingswood, Camden) still as a physician according to the 1910 census. He Married a Malinda (or Melinda) (maiden name unknown). She showed up on the 1920 census in NY, living with one of their children (daughter Blanchette) as a widow. I want to find Thomas' father, I am also interested in data regrading his death. And any living members of one of their 4 children (Thomas H. Jr., Charles Bertram, Blanchette, Linda May). Also looking for Malinda's maiden name, death place/date/etc. Thanks in advance, and hope this may help someone else as well.

Good morning Andrew, yes it is quite cold here, yesterday we had a hard frost but today it has warmed up slightly, no need to wear the thermals and long johns lol.
Does your Mum know the area that oseph and theresa were married in, could it have been Auckland, County Durham?
With the certificates you get a copy of the original and they are full of info, ie the marraige ones will tell you when and where they were married, who married them, who their witnesses were, what are or address they lived at, what age they were, what they did for a living and also what their fathers names were and what they did for a living. The birth ones are also full of info as well as the death.
I have given you my e-mail address if you go on that and send me your address then I will send you a copy of the will and any other certs I can find relating to the Peacock family.
I know what you mean about being confusing with the names being the same, but if I can help I will gladly.
To let me see your tree just put up my user name in the box for people allowed to see your tree eith as a visitor or one of the others but remember to tick the box for me to see living relatives. (I put that as I didnt on one of my entries, you soon learn the ins and outs )
It is 7.52 am over here and now light, do hate the dark mornings.
I am hastily updating my tree so that you can see all relevant info on the Peacock clan.

Off to walk the dog now over the hills etc, have a great day.
Sharon

Good morning Sharon,

How are things? It would be getting cold there atm wouldn't it?It has been 31 degrees here of late, I live in Cairns in north Queensland Australia, but I was born and breed in Brisbane where most of the family still live. I did order some birth certificates for my nana so im waiting for them to arrive, i brought them from the national archives website,so im hoping they are going to be the right ones. maisie and john are my fathers parents, Regarding the Ward question and I only found this out the other day is that maisie had been married once before to a ward, she fell pregnant, lost the baby, he went to America and thats all i know, and then she married John. I have only just started researching my family tree and it is so con fussing, to many people have the same names... I would love to get a copy of the will, do you have many other printed things on the family? My mum is really trying to get Joseph and Theresas marriage certificate, but finding it hard to locate...

How do i add you to my family tree list so you can have a look?

With the certificates, you know how they come with the 1B 1085 and its just written there,is that all you get when you order it? I have no idea what to expect, or do you get a copy of the original document?

Thanks and enjoy your morning...It is 4pm here atm..

I do all mine on line from them, but if you are not in England I dont know how that works, however give me your mothers, mother info and I will see what I can do.
By your mothers mother is that Maisie Peacock to John A Griffiths 1951, Cleveland, 1B 1085. If it is there is a querie beside the name that John married a Peacock or Ward? Any answers to that mystery.
Joseph Peacock was my Grt Uncle, I also have the will of Anthony Peacock, Josephs father.
regards
Sharon

Little Baddow is a village in Essex County, England. It is near to the county town of Chelmsford, and is very close to Great Baddow. Nowadays it is largely a commuter village, but until relatively recently it would have been an agricultural-based community.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Baddow

Peacock is a relatively common name and there are at least 2 if not 3 or more well developed families in Essex. I know this as I have Peacocks in my own family and am Essex-based yet often stumble on other Peacocks with no known tie in to my tree (including the Baddow Peacocks).

The Peacocks of Baddow are shown on ancestry in dozens of UK census records. There are many records of them on the IGI/Mormon site at:

https://www.familysearch.org

Regards

Neil

Looking for anyone that has info on the Peacocks from Little Baddow in their ancestry. I descend from Rose Peacock b. 1858. Her father was Henry Peacock. She married William Hart and they ended up in Haslett Michigan. I have hit a brick wall on this Peacock family. Would appreciate any info or advice regarding them.

Elizabeth Peacock STEAD

I am trying to trace an Elizabeth Peacock who gave birth to and baptised my great grandfather in Knighton, Wales in 1876. She called her son Walter Harry STEAD Edwards, father not named on baptismal record. She disappeared but Walter ended up living with a James Edwards presumably his father in the 1881 census. It was rumoured that Elizabeth was a travelling actress! I am hoping that someone may recognise the unusual middle name ie. Stead as being a family name which might give a clue as to where she came from. Any help much appreciated.
